  1. Just can't help yourselves, can you? I want to understand why people support President Trump, not debate President Trump. Derek V
  2. I would really like to gain a better understanding of why people support President Trump. No ulterior motive(s). No games. No debates. Just information for me to think about. Derek V
  3. I do not want to debate why you support President Trump, I want to understand why you support him. Thank you in advance. Derek V
  4. Everyone is trying to kill you, some more than others. My red flags (any combination of these almost guarantees they will try to kill you); - Mini vans - Anyone on their phone. - Subaru’s. Not the Impreza WRX’s though. - handicapped license plates. - Anyone ages 16-19. - Beat up, barely running cars. These are just red flags from 24 years of riding. Always leave it in gear when parking and never park pointed downhill. Watch for gravel when stopping. Make sure your shoe laces cannot get snagged on a foot peg. Practice avoidance & fast stop maneuvers. When someone does try to kill you, just wave. Drive a little faster than the flow traffic. Have a plan, always. Pay attention, always. All the gear, all the time. During the day, leave your headlight on bright. Use your turn indicators and click them off just before turning so you don’t leave them on. The brighter your lights, the better (especially brake light). Good tires make all the difference. Do the maintenance. I believe the reason people will look right at you and then pull out in front of you is because they are looking for a car/truck/bus. They don’t see one, so they go. A motorcycle doesn’t register. 5. Rinse the rubber bands in soapy water, leaving the soap on them as they dry. This removes the powder they ship in, which reduces their life span and makes them a little slippery, extending their life a bit. Hard openings are mostly caused by either not slowing down before deploying or the slider not being against the slider stops. Even a small decrease in speed can make a big difference. Putting your knees on the slider grommets is hard on your knees, hard on the slider material, and can move the grommets away from the slider stops. If the canopy is staying in the bag until line stretch, the rubber bands breaking are not the cause of your hard openings. Derek V
  6. One reason spinning line twists is so dangerous is that the harness puts you in a de-ached, back-to-earth, back-fly body position. Speeds are high enough that you are back flying. Altitude awareness is more difficult. You have a high decent rate and have to either look over your shoulder to see the ground, look at your altimeter, or fight the harness to get into an arch to get belly-to-earth. When you cutaway, you could end up sub-terminal, on your back, and spinning. Without full airspeed to fly in, recovering stability takes longer than at terminal (with the same body position). Having taught a lot of people to back fly in wind tunnels, people most often underestimate the power to turn their legs/feet have. They start to spin and tend to go with it, making it faster. This is one reason I am not in favor of RSL's, but I am in favor of most MARD's. Getting the reserve out of the freebag after cutting away and traveling the length of your reserve lines just isn't enough time to allow for problems. With just the reserve PC out, you could entangle with it. You could end up with line twists as you may still be rotating as you hit line stretch. But I think that I would have a fully functional reserve over my head sooner (with a MARD) than cutting away, getting stable, and deploying my reserve. Given that altitude awareness is more difficult with spinning line twists, high descent rates, high G forces, and the possibility of a high spin rate after cutting away, I use a Skyhook and don't try and fix spinning line twists. I just leave. If you look at any picture of spinning line twists, they all show the same thing; line twists and the risers are uneven. I fly a Valkyrie 84 (great openings), have magnetic riser covers (release evenly and before the canopy comes out of the bag), and a semi-stowless main D-bag (canopy comes out of the bag on heading every time), and I keep my hips even with the ground during deployment. All these things combine to prevent spinning line twists. Derek V
  7. Go to a wind tunnel and get 15-30 minutes of coached time. There is a reason airlines spend a lot of money on flight simulators. Derek V
  8. ....wing loading vs. experience and decide education is better than regulation. Derek V
  9. http://conchrepublicdivers.com/ Dove with this shop a few times, they are great. Derek V
  10. The serial number on a glock lower receiver is a stamped piece of metal that is inserted into the plastic. It could removed without leaving a trace. Then an aftermarket slide and barrel and then there is no more serial number. Seems like a lot of expense and legal liability when you could simply do it legally. Google 80% lower. Derek V
  11. 1- I do not believe that law enforcement in Colorado have simply chosen not to enforce this law. I don’t keep receipts for firearms, a canceled check wouldn’t have the serial number of the firearm on it, and a 3rd party witness is not enough proof. 2- Yes, civic duty. I think most responsible private sales go through a FFL if the person isn’t well known to the seller. Why pay the extra money, time and paper trail? 3- Agreed. Derek V
  12. 3 points; 1- it is not enforceable not because law enforcement is unwilling, it is not enforceable because you cannot trace a firearm back to who sold it without a national registry. Some criminal says I sold them a firearm. I say I didn’t. I am innocent until proven guilty. Law enforcement has the word of a criminal against mine and no other evidence to prove I sold them the firearm. Case closed. 2- There already is incentive not to sell a firearm to a shady character. I’ve never sold a firearm, but if I did, I probably wouldn’t sell one to someone I didn’t know. If I did, I would go to a dealer and have them pass a background check first. 3- It is laws like this that make me question if it is about reducing fatalities or restricting firearms for anti-gun people. Derek V
  13. Your words, not mine. You made ‘laws’ plural, not me. Derek V
  14. “Chicago killings and shootings drop for 14th consecutive month” Didn’t read the article, or even the headline, did you? Derek V
  15. I tried to explain to Billvon that Colorado’s universial background check law would un-enforceable. He didn’t believe me. Well, there hasn’t been any enforcement of it. Derek V
  16. "Chicago killings and shootings drop for 14th consecutive month" "It's a remarkable drop in a city long plagued by gun violence. In April, there were 29% fewer shootings and 21% fewer killings -- decreases authorities attribute to the hiring of more officers, stronger community policing efforts and investments in technology, such as gunshot detection systems and predictive crime software, to help deploy officers. "The third piece, and I tell you, it just can't be understated, is that fact that the community has now re-engaged with the police department and are helping us to reduce the violence," Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson told CNN affiliate WLS TV on Tuesday." Local authorities don;t seem to agree with your conclusion that the decrease can be attributed to the "Gun trafficking laws". Derek V
  17. Was there any changes to their gun laws? Derek V
  18. Didn’t Chicago relax their gun laws last year? Derek V
  19. https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/01/us/chicago-crime-drop-april/index.html “It's a remarkable drop in a city long plagued by gun violence. We need more of this. Derek V
  20. Or the SS is protecting everyone, just their protectees. And if not allowing firearms in the building makes their protectees safer, even if it makes the others less safe, not their problem. Derek V
  21. No, it doesn't. The Secret Service isn't trying to make everyone safer, just their protectees). Derek V
  22. An individual that needs medical attention, but isn’t receiving treatment and ends up going postal with either a pressure cooker, firearm, van, or other instrument? Derek V
  23. If you can draw that conclusion, then you should also determine that vans are more dangerous than AR-15's. Derek V
