I was one of the lucky few who got the opportunity to jump one of the most BAD-ASS choppers on the planet. The scheduled chopper at skydive Houston broke down with some kind of hydraulic seal problem. So the chopper company flew in one of there brand new Eurocopter Dauphins in for some jumps. This thing was brand new with 100 hours on it. The pilot told us we were the first people to sit in the back (BEER). This thing even smelled brand new. I think we are one of the few people one the planet to ever jump a Eurocopter Dauphin. If anyone has ever jumped one I would be interested in knowing. Otherwise I will continue to think I am one of the few ever. For those of you who do not know what a Dauphin looks like, the Coast Guard here in Houston flys them. I will try to attach a pic. OK I made my first (BEER) camera jump yesterday. I got my D box and a .5 wide angle lens. The video quality of this camera is AWESOME. I had some experience camera flyers try my helmet on. Some said it felt heavy. Its heavy to me because I am not used to having 1.5 lbs on the left side of my head. I was amazed how easy it was to keep my subject in the view. The jumps consisted of two way sit flying with transition to head down and back. I am really happy with this camera set up. The wide angle lens makes a big difference. As you can read from my post I am not a swooper. Maybe your right. It may have just seemed that way. When I first witnessed this I was kind of shocked that someone would do this. OK maybe I should have been a little more clear. What I did infact see was someone approaching under front risers. Gliding across the ground under rear risers. Then halfway through the glide unstow the brakes to finish off. So your saying there is no way possible for this maneuver? Maybe I was High that day........ I totally agree. Thats why skydiving does not scare me. I am not afraid to die. There is a line in Point Break "Its not a crime to die doing something you love" What does scare me is dieing from cancer or slipping in the shower or something really stupid like that. I have a friend who's mom had this really rare cancer that she fought for 5 years. She finally beat the fucking cancer. One day while cooking she was cuting up veggies and cut her hand. The blood medication caused her to bleed real bad. She passed out and hit her head and died. Very sad. I dont think I am going to die from skydiving. It will be from something like slipping in the freaking shower or something. You dont't get to choose how you're going to die. I just found out from My girlfriends dad that two Tropic Air pilots are their neighbors. He said there are a number of pilots that live on the Island. He is almost positive that I would be able to make a skydive. Now finding suitable landing area might be another problem. I am counting down the minutes till I leave. 6 day 10hours and 33 secs. Thanks for the clicky....There have been a lot of crash lately. I went and saw the debris from the plane that crashed at the air show. It was right on the side of Clear Lake City Blvd. They were picking up the fuselage with a crane. It was sad knowing that someone had just lost their life. I am going in January. I am bringing my rig. There are three DZ around the Vegas area. I am also going to try the little wind tunnel. I know its nothing like the ones in Orlando or Californina. I am also heading out to area 51. I want to see some alien activity. I bet its scary as hell out there at night. Weird shit happens in the desrt at night. Good Job Conway. I am glad it worked out for you. I have seen some guys at the DZ (no names mentioned) come flying in double fronts and not even un stow their brakes until half way through the swoop. I am leaving for Belize for a 6 day stay on the 26th. My girlfriends family just retired there. They are on the island of Ambregis Caye. A little North of San Pedro town. Her dad just had the 800ft pier finished. I posted in the places to Jump section about trying to hook up a skydive down there. I am taking my rig with me just in case I can make it happen. There is a little airport in San Pedro town. Her dad said there are a lot of private pilots there. Tropic air is one of the puddle jumpers that fly back and forth from the mainland. They fly Cessna caravans. I am sure finding a landing area might be a little tough. I made some beach jumps in Playa Del Carmen back in June. Talk about a small landing area. I will let you know how it turns out when I return. I plan on scuba diving for sure. I hear its the place to dive. Maybe you should retire there and open a DZ. I got My 330 in the other day and spent a little time playing around with it. I am really pleased with this camera. The quality of the video is really good. This is my first camera so I dont have anything to compare it to. I am looking for a mount for it now. I am curious to see what everyone else is running with the 330. I looked at some Bonehead D boxes. They look like they offer the most protection for the camera. Kind a pricey but I have come this far and should not try and save a buck. I just read the article in Novembers Parachutist. Wow, that was pretty crazy for 1971 standards. The really cool thing was they never found anything. Not one sign of a parachute, clothing, NADA, ZILCH. And he got away with 200 large. They say in todays standards thats like 900,000. Does anyone from up in the Northwest have any insight to this?
