  1. Got that right Mr. O. I'll be posting some pictures soon. Looking forward to next year. Also, Eloy this October should be a good one.
  2. Sorry to hear John is gone. John was always the first to welcome people that were new to the area slide right in and party in the air and on the ground. My brother and I had great times with John, his brother Jerry, Butch Marsh and other AZ people at Marana, Coolidge, Parker and then several DZ's in SoCal. They were all on the load when I got my AZSCR. RIP John. Dennis Henley SCR-216, AZSCR-41
  3. Very sorry to hear this. Glad I got to see and talk with Bobby at Eloy one last time two years ago. I worked for Bobby as one of his JM's at Taft in the early 70's. I still have the Ward Vene jump suit he put mini wings on for me. RIP Bobby. I learned a lot for you. Gong to miss your big laugh and smile.
  4. Hello Al, That Arvin patch sure took me back. That is where I started in 65 just before it closed and we moved over to Taft, Lost Hills, Oceanside and all over the west. When you get time please get in touch with Brian. He is going through a rough time right now. Regards, Dennis Henley, SCR-216
  5. Sandy, you da gal. My first hook-up was with the Al at Taft when I was ~18. I came in on him and then hesitated when I looked at the hook. He gave me a look that said, "just grab it dummy".
  6. Sorry Mike. Sometimes I go overboard too fast on the detail end of things. I figured out what you were saying after I posted. Dennis Henley SCR-216
  7. 1977: The first Pieces of Eight was a 4-Way team: Chuck Anderson, Al krueger My Brother, Paul Henley and Larry Yohn. Their first 4-Way was filmed by Carl Boenish at Elsinore. http://parachutehistory.com/skydive/records/poe.html
  8. Very sorry to hear this Bunny. George and I had been talking via FB over the last few months. We had not talked for about 42 years, but when he got in contact with me it was as if it had only been 42 days since we last talked. George wanted me to come to the midwest and make a retirement jump with him and Bobby Sinclare in a few months. But after that conversation he didn't respond to my messages. George and I traveled to Chile in the early 70s and worked with their Army upgrading their jumping gear and instructing them in RW. I think this is one of the subjects he wanted to talk about. This is a sad day.
  9. Larry, you can still get your NSCR if you send the paper work to Newell's daughter.
  10. Jay is Chuck Brother. Chuck passed away in 09.
  11. In the mid 60's I watched a 14 year old son of a friend pack his dad's main. It looked OK to me so I let him pack my 32 LOPO. I gave him $1.50 and then went right up to do a cut-away from a line-over. The kid was sick about it. I don't stay mad long so I told him he could pack it again, but only under my supervision, and that I was not going to pay until after I landed under a good canopy. I also told him that I may not be his dad, but I for sure could kick his ass if I had another line-over. These days we still start to laugh as soon as we see each other. A few weeks ago I watched one packer do a shit job of a speed stuff into a bag and another packer work like a pro with concentration and focus. If I don't want to pack my own, I'll go with the the guy with focus.
  12. As Lyle would say, "there I was,12,500 ft. Pocket full of nickels, and not a coke machine in sight"...
  13. Jim, did you say round or go-around?
  14. Hello Tim, Mike is fast on the keys. Also checkout the video on the Air Trash site. It has a lot of your old friends from Arvin and Taft in it. We had some of the Arvin Good Guys, Old River Rats and the LA Latin Club there. The weather was great. Well, not as good as the islands, but great for Taft standards. Regards, Dennis
  15. To save room during the climb up the steps and to altitude, as well as making room at the door during exit, I find it best to use fold-up walkers. One left, two right, two left...wait, make that one right...hold this heading...You're looking good...we're almost to target, hold it now- oh rats', ninety left! Beans! we missed it again. Damn, go around! And this time try'n put it where I TELL YOU!'''
  16. Well Jim, in my book the DZ is not always the same as the LZ. So for some jumps I put down two places for one jump. I worked in and out of Liechtenstein for 15 years back in the 80s and 90s. I had no idea there were over 27 DZs in Switzerland. Damn, I sure lost out on that one. That part of the world has a lot of great things to offer. Not a bad view in the entire joint. Great outdoor people, the Swiss. So far I have 32 DZ/LZ's around the world. Will add a few more in September.
  17. Hello Mark, The next time you see Al Silver, ask him about landing between pumps at a gas station in Hermosa Beach during a Rumbleseat Club beach jump. Dennis
  18. The LA Latin Club will be holding a party at Elsinore on September 17th for their 50th. My brother and I jumped with the LA Latin club and the AZ Rebels many times in the 60's and 70's and I look forward to jumping with both clubs at Eslinore this year.
  19. Why keep track of the ground? You know it's always going to be there for ya.
  20. There are still a lot of people around (some still jumping) that are in those early films and can tell who the others are in those films. Watching friends on film registers in your head like watching someone walk. Everyone has his own walk, and everyone has his own way to fly. You know who they are from a good distance. I may be an old fart, but those films and jumping help to keep me young of spirit.
  21. Thanks Erik, Also, my thanks to Marah. This makes for another positive step in our sport. I always looked forward to watching Carl's films at the Gypsy Moths bar and the Hermosa Beach Rumbleseat. Carl would film on the weekend and have the film ready by Wednesday. His films were and are still a great teaching aid. Regards, SCR-216
  22. Hello Mike, Air Trash will be holding another Old Farts get together this weekend at Taft, like the one you attended a few years ago. There will be several of the Old River Rats and 3 or 4 of the Arvin Good Guys there also. The LA Latin club and some of the Rebels from AZ will also be there. We have an Otter coming from Perris for the weekend. Speaking of the Latin club, two weeks ago during the memorial for Kevin Donnelly at Eslisnore, Tommy of the LA Latin's said that they will be holding a Latin club 50th anniversary at Elsinore this September 17th & 18th. Paul and I jumped with Latin Club many times all over the west from the mid 60's to the late 70's. Manny of the trips with the Latin Club, Spike was up front for us. This is one party I will not miss out on. We will miss you at Taft this weekend, and I am sure we will be talking about you, Spike, Twitch Ward, Brady and the others this weekend. Keep your eyes crossed for us. Dennis SCR-216
  23. Damn Mark, I just checked out the going price for my old 1962 Bell helmet. Thanks for the tip. I almost gave this puppy away to a kid up here on the hill I don't even know. I think I'll just give him an old baseball cap and keep this baby a little longer. On second thought, buzz off kid, go get your own skull cap. Hell, with the price of things today, this helmet could pay for a reserve re-pack, a few 12.5's, and a 12-pack of beer (May not be in that order though). Thanks!
  24. I got my Bell helmet from jeannie McCombs just over the hill from Pope at Calistoga. Started jumping at Pope when Curt Curtis and Tim Saltenstal opened it just after Calistoga closed. Man, I sure miss both of those DZ's. I mean, where else could you jump, land and then walk over to your hotel several times before lunch, and then do it again in the afternoon + night jump, and then start the party at the local country joint? All within 100 yards of the target. Damn, if Bill Dause is giving jumps at Lodi using Pope $5 tickets I better start digging through my old equipment bag. Do ya think I can also get a $5 reserve re-pack at Lodi?
