  1. You mean 25% off AND you buy us beer the next time around? - It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. - I'm Irish. We let people know how we feel. Now fuck off.
  2. Hi all. Sent an e-mail to the CRW list, but also thought to post here. Looking to buy a CF Storm 150. thanks - It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. - I'm Irish. We let people know how we feel. Now fuck off.
  3. I was a bit short on cash and didnt order mine a year ago, I guess now it is too late. BTW USPA had a budget surplus for the last year, I am sure they can afford to spend a few hundred bucks on a patch order. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 4. I took my coach coarse in Septeber last year with Linda at the Ranch. I understand that that was her first time teaching the course but in my opinion she did an awesome job of it. She is an excellent instructor, I did all my AFF jumps with her. The way she structured the course was a lot of fun and very involved. I do not know how others teach it, but I have taken enough professional courses to know when it is a successful one. Linda just had another one last weekend. But i udnerstand she can teach it anytime as long as there are at least 3 people who sign up for it. It might be worth asking around on your DZ, if you get a decent group of people Linda will probably come to you. See here for details http://ranchrookie.com/ there is a link to coach course info on the right side of the page. The best part about this course is not only that you will earn a coach rating, but that you learn things about yourself. You get to take a point of view outside of your normal skydiving perspective. I think its very helpful to anyone, even if they do not make a single coach jump ever. Good luck. "never be too cool for school" - It's okay to be happy to see me. 5. I can only, obviously, speak for myself. I havent jumped much in the past year, and not a lot to talk about under my belt alltogether. The camp at Sebastian I attended last year was a lot of fun and makes me want to participate more in the sport. Nationals are generally a tough thing to attend be it skydiving, fencing, judo or any other such event. Time off work, travel, costs etc. all this puts limits on options and whether attending an event will be possible. For example, attending Nationals in Chicago can be more easily accomplished for someone in the north-east than attending them in California. However, this is not news and is not the point. If the reason that two of the major CF teams were invited to China to make a pitch for CF being included in WAG, then I can definetly understand the appeal of such an invite. It is generally a good move for the sport albeit not necessarily a big impact for those who compete only in US. Big (professional) teams generally have enough exposure in the worldwide arena, Dubai games, world comptetions, etc. Small, local teams are unlikely to go to the WAG anyway. All this being said, the question is this. If it is important to have a CF presence in China during the air show, why does it have to be US teams. There are plenty of highly trained and capable CF teams in the wolrd to present to sport. I do not see why the invited teams can not politely refuse an invitation explaining the very patriotic reasons (who, if not China, can understand these reasons better) and suggesting an alternative to take their place. Having our presence felt on the world stage is good, but Nationals is about Us and has to take priority. This is IMHO of course. P.S. I would like to attend the Nationals this year as it would be much easier to attend them for me this time around (though I have no team and do not feel that I am well prepared for it). - It's okay to be happy to see me. 8. You are right, its a sort of terminology misuse that I myself dislike. The point however carries across either way. By the way I am not sure what Re is for a typical ram air canopy but I dont see why a canopy would not have a fully (or mostly) laminar flow. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 9. No wing responds well to turbulence. The wing is flying because the non-turbulent (or laminant) air flow over the top of the wing creates an area of low air pressure as opposed to the bottom surface, that in turn generates lift. Turbulent air doesnt flow in the same way, and doesnt produce the same low pressure conditions; your wing hits a turbulent air stream and it will loose its lift characteristics. Ever hit turbulence in the airplane? Felt the sinking sensation and brief moments of free fall? Your plane just literally fell from underneath you by loosing lift due to turbulence. Of course the airplane pilots have the luxury of changing other operating conditions such as your air speed to counter the effects of turbulence. The same can happen to any wing. We all experience turbulence to some extent when flying - when we stall the canopy right before landing or in the air as practice. Cant imagine how any canopy pilot can consciously ignore the turbulence. - It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. - I'm Irish. 11. well I suppose that depends on what is meant by a proper landing. There is one type of wing that has to be stalled in order to land properly - its called an airplane (you pilots can correct me if you want, but that is how the most successful instruction book on flying an airplane, in the history of wing flight, describes a landing). You certainly don't have to stall a Canopy to land it, but a good and proper stall landing looks a hell of a lot nicer and easier on the body then most other types of proper landings. Of course seeing that I do not have years and gazillions of jumps under my belt, I welcome any experienced person to tell me that I am speaking out of my ass (provided that they actually give a reasonable explanations as to why). - It's okay to be happy to see me. 12. DZ.com classifieds are no different then any other classifieds out there. Use common sense, know what you are buying. Skydiving is a tightly knit community; if whoever is selling is a skydiver then someone out there knows him/her, if they are not then they shouldn't be selling anything here. Call riggers, call DZs, get references. Use rigger services. Trust your gut feelings, if something doesn't feel kosher - walk away. Finally an oldie but a goodie - if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. P.S. i bought my rig on here (Container, reserve, AAD). Paid money up front, but then the person I bought from was reputable and experienced skydiver. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 14. Agreed, if you dont have anything filled out on your skills side, you will need at most 5 jumps to get your canopy requirements (probably less) and only 2 of them coached to get everything else. All the other requirements do not involve cost (or at least shouldn't). Also do a jump out of a porter if you can, those can satisfy a lot of requirements - It's okay to be happy to see me. 16. I don't think there is anything new on the market. There was a system called Paratelemetry, but their website doesnt even work anymore. Transmitters cost about 100 a piece and a tracking receiver was about 525. One receiver could be used to track any transmitter. Apparently the cost of lost canopies couldn't warrant the investment. The system never got very popular. This is an e-mail I got from the guy back in July "Dear sir, Thank you for your interest in ParaTelemetry products. The receiver is available from us. The price is $525 plus shipping. Transmitters may be stacked on different frequencies to eliminate confusion of signal. What type of container systems are you using? Except for Javelins, all other installations need to be custom fitted. If you would like to discuss your specific application, please give us a call at xxx. Best regards, George Galloway ParaTelemetry" Let me know if you want to speak to him and I will PM his contact to you. As I understand that is essentially a Falcon tracking system adapted for parachutes, but there are others similar ones out there. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 17. My apologies o wise one, what FJC teaches you how to assemble your main? Which one teaches you how to put your main on the risers, or how the s-links work? While we are at it, what was the last time you looked at the inner-workings of your AAD, was it put together correctly? Most of the things about our gear we learn gradually. People show us, explain, point what doesnt look right - we learn. Here is an advice, you want to scold a new skydiver and call them an idiot? Do it privately, because these kind of replies discourage others from asking questions, which is not a good thing. I think people are assholes because of their actions, not whether what they say is right or wrong. - It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. - I'm Irish. We let people know how we feel. Now fuck off.
  18. Well I'm willing to bet what fell out was your total lack of understanding of how your gear works and how to hook it up the right way. I'm also willing to bet that you didn't ask a rigger to look at your work or who ever "hook it up" for you and their work. And with out so much of a basic understanding how it works or what the fuck your doing in rigging your gear the right way you went out and jumped it assuming everything was done right......Till it failed to do so and then you assume that it had to be something that "fell out" and not your fucked up'ed rigging work. If you continue down this path & way of thinking you will be dead one day! A lot of way more experianced people have died from a simple "little" mistake in rigging, read up on Patrick De Gayardon's death for one example, there are many more to choose from. All fine and dandy and probably true, but you my friend are an asshole - It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. - I'm Irish. 19. According to Brian Germain's downsizing chart, to be flying fully elliptical "all jumpers should make at least 100 on a non-elliptical parachute of the same wingloading, or as dictated by the Canopy Transition Course Instructor." this would put this jumper on a 150 canopy at less then 300 jumps. According to the same chart minimum allowable number of jumps for a 150 size with this exit weight is 300, but recommended is 400. This guide also suggests adding one size to fully elliptical making it minimum 360 and recommended 460 (for 209 exit weight) - It's okay to be happy to see me. 21. The lines are not dacron nor spectra, they are polyester, which was a standard line used by Aerodyne (apparently) some time in the past. Polyester wears out faster. My question is whether it is reasonable for the buyer to ask the seller to reduce the price by 400 to pay for a brand new Spectra line set. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 22. Pilot 168 for sale, DOM '05, 100 jumps, polyester lines. Seller wants a rigger inspection. Rigger finds that stabilizer D lines are worn due to the nature of line material and tightly set stabilizers, and should be replaced before jumping. Rigger also recommends that, instead of replacing the worn D lines every 100 jumps, the whole canopy is relined with spectra lines. Seller offers to pay for replacing bad D lines (~$70). The buyer wants the seller to discount the cost of relining the canopy ($400) of the agreed price. Who do you feel is being reasonable here? Would you agree that a canopy with 100 jumps and a brand new line set is practically a brand new canopy? - It's okay to be happy to see me. 23. Hmm, I have these dreams all the time. I never actually get hurt (or finish the dream to see the hurting part) but everyone single one of them something is going wrong. My favorites are where shit goes wrong that can't (foreseeably) happen. For example the latest one when i had a total mal and was pulling on the silver and my hand with the D and the cord was as far out as possible and the reserve just wasn't coming out (like those magic tricks when you keep pulling on the rope and it jsut keeps going and going). As for thinking why, i get my answer right after i leave the plane. Its kind of like going to a party when you really dont feel like it, then you get there and get happy and stupid, and suddenly you know why you did it. or not - It's okay to be happy to see me. Great for CRW, or when you need to hear better. For FF put some tape over the ear area. I had problems hearing my Pro-Track set on high. It is truly the most comfortable helmet I have tried. easy to set-up with a camera. And it looks good on you.
