  1. i suppose a sew pocket might work, but it would have to be a very porous material, otherwise the data readings would be inaccurate. I think it would be easier too, and its too bad that the experiment was stopped. I personally would be more interested in conditions during actual flight, turns, wind, etc. If one would use a centrally operated system, multiple wireless sensors and a central data collecting interface (on the body), then you will have no problem getting actual pressure readings at any given point. Collecting differential between say top skin and bottom will be of little use unless you know exact atmospheric pressure at that altitude. We dont exactly use speed and angles in this sport. We say 180 half toggle turn not a 3 degree turn. We also dont say: reduce speed to 10 mph, we say fly half brakes. So its the actions that will need measuring and description, not physical data (except pressure of course). As for speed, that could be recorded with an accurate GPS unit. Angular speed can probably be figured out by some combination of measurements (if really needed). - It's okay to be happy to see me. 2. Not sure where to post this, but rigging sounds about right. I would imagine there has been some experimentation done with measuring pressure inside the canopy at various points in various conditions. Question one is where to find information about this. Question two is would mounting small (size of a dice) sensors inside and outside the canopy disturb air flow enough to make the canopy dangerous to fly? Finally what would be the best way to temporary mount these sensors to the material of the canopy (they weight about as much as one-two quarters) ? - It's okay to be happy to see me. 3. My condolences to all that got scammed. Is it possible to contact WU and get information to the location from which each transfer was withdrawn? On an off chance that it could have been the same office or store. In any case if a setup is made with help of law enforcement WU should be able to mark a transfer and delay the asshole until he can be arrested. Any thoughts? - It's okay to be happy to see me. 4. I am not sure what the specs are for the force on main closing pin (if any) but I am pretty sure that if, when you lift the container by the bridle, the pin slips out then you are good (that's about 20 pounds give or take depending on the rig setup). P.S. Hail Matroskin :) - It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. - I'm Irish. We let people know how we feel. Now fuck off.

  6. I have an I-5, and largest I packed in it was a 170 Pilot, smallest 143 Lightning and 150 Spectre and Triathlon. When I pack I thread the closing loop through each flap one at a time. When closing 3 and 4 I use my hand to tuck in excess lines stows and material so as to remove the wrinkles. Usually i end up with one side being slightly thicker then the other but that, i believe, is due to the way i put the main in the d-bag. As for the asymmetry of flaps 3 and 4 from the grommets of the top and bottom flaps, and perhaps someone can correct me, wouldn't that be due to the closing loop being too long? If the loop is just long enough the flaps should not have room to move off center. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 7. I wasn't bragging. It was meant as a an example that things can seem to be going very well, yet you can never know what might happen. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 8. I weight 150 (170 out the door). I jumped a Navigator 200 at 25 jumps, Sabre 2 190 at 28. At 40 I bought my Pilot 168. At 70-80 I practiced CReW with Storm 150, I even landed Lightning 143 perfectly on my feet (with weight). Am I ready for a 150? My CReW instructor (and he is experienced, world record, teams etc.) tells me I'm fine, my friends tell me I am rushing. Past weekend after 5 weeks not jumping I caught a cross wind at about 3-4 feet, didn't compensate and ended doing a spectacular cartweel. I am fine except for bruised elbow + ego and having to clean my container. I am not an experienced guy but if I am rushing, you are flying. Oh and also except for this one landing past weekend, I never had a problem, my landings were nearly perfect starting jump 6. Go figure. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 9. Agreed. Bought a canopy from him in June. Got it in a few days exactly as promised. A no BS kind of guy. - It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. - I'm Irish. We let people know how we feel. Now fuck off.
  10. Shouldn't a good rigger be able to make one? I also seen someone stitch a piece of webbing into their container and attach stow bands to it. So when you pack its like packing with a tail pocket but the stows are put on the inside of the container. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 11. To tell the truth after doing some CReW jumps, I don't see any good reasons to open below full jump altitude but to be honest 4K seems like an excellent point to pull. Above cuts into my FF time, below cuts into my safety and flying time. As for boogies with 3K max altitude, I was not aware of them. However this conversation is not for this post, perhaps someone can move these pull decision talks into a general discussion thread? - It's okay to be happy to see me. 12. That is not what i said, and I think there are tons of very good reasons why we do most of the things we do the way we do them. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 13. think of it this way, you are giving them some extra time to practice their piloting skills. - It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. - I'm Irish. We let people know how we feel. Now fuck off.
  14. It is all a matter of preference of course. However I do not see a good reason to go below 3500-4000 on your openings. Cannot name a single good one. If your ceiling is unusually low, then scratch the planned RW jump. Dont jump with those who break at 4000, if you do then you should break at 5K. If your break off goes to shit and there is someone above you and you throw anyway, i doubted (correct me if im wrong) that it will make a difference whether your canopy opens in 600 or 800 or 1000 feet, plus you'd need to be on your back to see someone right above you. And if you jump from an airplane emergency at 2K i sure hope you are going to pull your reserve right away as was taught in ground school. Pilot is a fine canopy and I am sure there are ways to pack it to reduce the snivel. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 15. Don't see what the big deal is with 800-1000 foot openings if you throw by 4000. I demoed Sabre 2 (150) and rented Sabre 1 (170 i think). I prefer Sabre 2, softer openings, beautiful flares. - It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. - I'm Irish. 16. There is a certain difference between an honest sale and an obvious scam. Common sense will help fish out 90% of fake stuff. The other 10% can be figured out with a little investigative work. However I was not referring to fakes and scams. How many people with 500+ jumps, rigger certifications, well known at their DZs are know to have duped someone? - It's okay to be happy to see me. 17. Trust is at the very center of Skydiving (here used as a general term not simply jumping out of airplane). You trust your rigger with your reserve, you trust your friend with a gear check on the ground and a pin check before you leave the plane, you trust the pilot with safely getting you to altitude, you trust your packer, you even trust manifest with putting you on the right load and more. What is the problem with blindly buying from someone who has a reputation, has references especially if the seller is a rigger? One can always ask for the USPA member number, call sellers/buyers DZ, ask around. We are such a tightly knit community that we spread our news and gossip faster then OK Magazine. I do not see how one skydiver can cheat another and easily get away with it, but that is besides the point. The point is you trust or you do not skydive. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 18. Is there a downside of using a ZP CF canopy (Dacron, tailpocket, etc) for terminal RW jumps, changing the slider of course? - It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. - I'm Irish. We let people know how we feel. Now fuck off.
  19. the discussion is basically about how the brand new JFX are completely remoded with new lines, new attachment points and even new holes in whatever for the pilot chute retraction. 20. I understand there is a certain leg hold, that will leave hands of both people free for canopy control. I tried a similar one with my instructor while i was still holding on and it seems that i didnt have to hold his legs. There is a video somewhere where two guys with this leg hold turn their canopies 360. - It's okay to be happy to see me. 21. I never said i knew it all. I was just following a logical line of reasoning. Past weekend, freepacked 143 Lightning in an Icon I5. However seeing as my opinion isnt worth the Dell keyboard this message is typed on, here is an expert opinion from Dean (dont know his last name, he is an experienced CRW guy who jumps at the Ranch). He packed upwards of a 176 into an I5 Icon. - It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. - I'm Irish. We let people know how we feel. 22. well as someone mentioned in a different thread, i got to have thick skin. A little math Looks like 160 Lightning will pack at 590 cu. in. according to jumpshack table. According to their table a Triathlon 190 packs at 520 cu. in., however according to Aerodyne it will pack at 420. According to Aerodyne Pilot 188 packs at 440 and icon I6 has maximum container volume at 465, which would explain why 188 is recommended to fit an I6. Considering the size of my I5 main container, about 12x6x6 (as i remember) I am inclined to believe Aerodyne numbers. That said I understand that different people measure canopy sizes differently. Considering the volume difference for the Tri190, I'd estimate Jumpshack measures 25% more volume then Aerodyne, so Pilot 188 should be about 550 According to Jumpshack. A difference between Pilot 188 and Lightning 160 is about 40 cu. in. In a container 12 in wide and 6 in long that amounts to about .55 in of depth. So if the 188 packs with a little extra space, Lightning 160 should fit. Obviously all this math isn't a guarantee of anything because its based on very shaky assumptions. However I will try a Lightning 143 this weekend with an I5 container (which held Pilot 170); proportionally that is about the same to the I6 with Pilot 188 and Lightning 160. Will see. Thank you for the opportunity to bore everyone. - It's okay to be happy to see me. Just because you're English doesn't mean you need to hide your emotions. - I'm Irish. 24. How on earth did you see that in my original post? I asked if a wide angle lens was recommended for shooting CReW video, doesn't mean i was going to do it right away. You shouldn't jump to conclusions. Chuck, I appreciate your support
