I do not have the knowledge to know if kallend is being over-charged or not, but I would tend to agree with your assessment. Unfortunately, auto tune & repair shops are notorious for taking advantage of customers. I admit, it is worth my weight in gold having a close friend in the car industry. His guys have always taken care of my cars for free and I know they are doing an amazing job. My hunny is a contractor and I often hear him on the phone going over estimates with skeptical prospects. I always play devil's advocate when he gets frustrated, because while I know he is charging them fairly for exceptional work, even my jaw drops when he describes to me what the customer wants and his price. I am very happy not to be in his shoes dealing with all he deals with as a business owner with a product that everyone wants to pay someone to do rather than learn about/do themselves but no-one wants to pay more than their own unknowing/unwilling estimate pulled from thin air. Yep. Service business get a bad rap sometimes because people do not understand what it is they are paying for. Yes, Joe Smoe with a socket set and a shade tree could usually do the job MUCH cheaper.. If they do not have the overhead of being a REAL business to deal with. People forget rather quickly about all the other costs that must be paid for that business to exist beyond the Hourly wage paid to the person doing the work. No one likes to work for free. Even things like Janitorial staff, Accountants, Receptionists must be paid. If you are running a service type business, All these costs must be rolled into the Hourly rate you charge. Just because there is one guy out there turning wrenches does NOT mean that is the only person that must be paid. As for Book Hours vs Actual Hours, I like the Book Hours concept MUCH better. Yes, Most technicians can beat the book hours by quite a bit. This means the Better technicians can make more money and as a customer I don't have to pay more for a less competent technician that would take longer to do the same job. Also I know the costs up front.

No, that is NOT just the Labor.. It is the Labor (Payroll, Health Insurance, FICA, Unemployment Insurance, 401K program), The Overhead (The Building, The Utilities, The Shop Supplies, Uniforms, Service Writer, Service Manager, Liability Insurance, Advertising Costs, Tools) the Taxes and HOPEFULLY/Possibly a little profit for the business owner after all the above is paid. $300 isn`t so bad after you add up the REAL cost of doing business. TANSTAAFL. Now you could shop around and possibly find the Work done cheaper or do it yourself. That is what is so great about this country. The Choice is yours.

It was linked directly on Yahoo`s Home page yesterday and this morning. I cant find the link at all now, But that is not such a bad thing. The piece was Horrible and the two female commentators were much worse than the usual brainless talking heads. Both talking about how scary it would be and how they would not do it. Then they went on to say how they would hate to be in that "when they all started pulling their Rip Cords and getting jerked up". Not once was head down mentioned. The resent music has lost it but Metallica has been putting out Great (and occasionally, Not so great Music) for longer than many of the posters on here have been alive. Kill em all, Ride the Lightening and Master of Puppets are some of the best albums ever in my opinion. A couple years ago, Several Regulars posters here and myself ran into 3 of the guys from Metallica (Kirk, Lars and Trujillo) at a Strip Club in San Francisco. Somehow we ended up talking Hammett and one of the guys at our table told him "Love your Music. I have everything you ever recorded. I Downloaded it all of Napster". Kirk just laughed it off. The may not be what they once were but they did put out some GREAT music over the years.
