  3. My boss is headed out to San Diego with his family next month. Been awhile since I was at Miramar. (long time) Best place to eat steak, seafood and mexican? Places to visit? Is there a carrier at North Island civilians can tour? He has never been there and is making the trip based on my recommendation. He will be bringing two kids...8 and 12. He will be there a week so they will have plenty of time. Thanks.......

    USMC Ball

Since I was the first to vote let it be decided now. Wear the medals. It is the Marine Corps Ball you jarhead.
  5. Even tho I am a Kawi/Suzi fan I was pulling for Casey this year. With Marco joining them next year the Ducs look pretty strong for at least another year. Good to see some competition for Vale.
  6. It is legal in certain areas. There are areas set aside for what are called Post Maintenance Check Flights (PMCFs) When you change an engine or flight related component one of the things you have to do is go fast and see if that component works as advertised at speed. We used to do some south of Ft Worth in one the MOAs there. We had to be high 25K+ and stay on an assigned route. Could go as fast as needed.
  7. Go enforce your own rules, and leave those who are not breaking any of their laws alone*** Bravo
  8. We take kids from 6 years, usually skydiver's kids but yes we do.*** Good for you. My boy was a dz rat and I had to do some searching to find a place for him to do his tandem and aff since he was underage.
  9. Geno hailed from Oklahoma if I recall correctly. Just curious. *** True. Jumped with him in the late 70s. Lived next door to him also. I think he has my altimeter......
  10. Do as Amazon says. Find a cheap place to stay and go home on the weekends. I had a plane for a few years and flew to work for a few months. The cost is very high when you add in everything. The airplane payment is nothing compared to everything else that adds up. Considering the location you are speaking of you could not fly the plane for many days anyway. Instrument flying is for professionals. If you choose to do so you MUST stay current for safety. This equals more cash. Driving a long way to work sucks but using a plane to commute will drain you unless you are very well heeled.
  11. Had his own special on for awhile. He is good.
  12. I hear it mostly in the mornings while doing breakfast, dressing etc. I have started carrying my remote so I can change the channel instantly. Can't stand it.
  13. http://www.webbikeworld.com/Motorcycle-Safety/crash.htm The link above is interesting for a couple of facts and relates to a few things I mentioned above. You will note I said that after 30 we would drop rates. True for sportbikes. That was not true for cruisers. People tend to think that cruisers are mellow and would never crash or run off the road. Untrue. Reading further on the clicky you will note that alcohol, night riding, no helmet and failure to negotiate a corner was responsible for many deaths and crashes. My typical claim for a sportbike involved replacing plastic and an occasional large medical payment. It appeared to me that most, not all but most sportbike riders wore helmets and some form of protective gear. The accident was daytime and loosing control on cornering. The bike USUALLY took the brunt of punishment. (again...not always but usually) My typical cruiser claim was an older guy, new to riding, expensive bike, no helmet, riding with a group, with alcohol involved. Again failure to negotiate a corner (or running into the guy in front of you) was the routine cause of the accident. Best riders by far from my experience were the Beemer guys. There are riders from any genre' of motorcycles that ride due to a passion they feel. These are the good guys and girls. They know when they can go fast safely. They know the environment is always an issue. Rarely did I ever process a claim where the Beemer was at fault. Shoot me a PM in a few months and let me know how it turned out.
  14. Yes. Also be aware that in some cases a 750/900/1000 was at TIMES cheaper to insure than a 600. (I say "TIMES" due to underwriting rules changing daily due to claims paid) Check on it again once you hit the big 30. Try Geico online. Quick and easy. Try 2 or 3 different bikes. There are some GREAT 6-8 year old bikes out there with low miles and still in good shape. Wear a helmet, ride safe and enjoy life.
  15. 3 years ago I worked as an adjuster for a major ins company. Being a sportbike rider I asked for and received many sportbike claims. A previous post concerning squids hit the nail directly on the head. Many many times I paid claims on bikes involved in 1 vehicle accidents where the rider simply lost control while cornering or pulling wheelies/stoppies. (we would not renew this type of coverage) OEM plastic on a bike is incredibly expensive to replace. A drop with sliding while rounding a corner could easily equal a couple thousand in plastic and parts alone. We saw these kinds of accidents daily. The typical rider was young and on a 600 series sportbike. (the largest seller) Rarely did we have this type of accident on a rider 30 years of age plus. Put some money back every month for a couple years. Pay cash and get liability insurance. My son just bought a 2001 GSXR 1000 (he is 20) and is paying a little less than $2400 a year for full coverage. (Colorado) He was quoted $310 a year for liability only.
  16. Quality mold with high grade plastic.
  17. Laurie Dhue has made at least one tandem. Saw the video while channel surfing.
  18. You present your case well. I disagree but you do give me pause to think.
  19. Agreed. Moving target, head shot. I watched "Full Metal Jacket" the other night and the DI points out the particulars to the class on the rifle range. My DI did the same when I went thru years and years ago. If he did act alone he did in fact show skill.
  20. Where in the hell did this come from? You feeling OK today? Breath slowly in and out....ummm...ummm...
