  1. For my Mech-E degree I had to take a few "General Education" classes, but it really isn't that many. I was through all of them in less than a year, but that was while taking the engineering classes at the same time. Also, you will end up taking more "gen ed" classes if you start at a community college and transfer to a university (at least in my experience). Everyone I've known that's done that has had to catch up on their engineering classes for about a year because their community college made them take more gen eds. Have you ever taken any college classes? Those classes are pretty easy to subsitite. In Florida you also have the option to take a test instead of the class. So if you know a lot about Ukrainian history, take the test instead!
  2. Titusville requires a C license. Deland is about 40 minutes away Sebastian is about 1 hr 15 minutes away Deland, Z-Hills, and Sebastian will be your best bet. If you're going on a weekday, call ahead and make sure they're jumping (shouldn't be a problem, though). Personally I'd recommend Sebastian...but of course I'm not biased or anything
  3. I would recommend Sebastian, but if it's during the week...call first and see how many loads they plan on doing. On the weekends we're always jumping
  4. Hold the kitty by the extra skin on the top of its neck. It may seem mean, but since that's where their mothers picked them up as babies, it has a calming effect (at least temporarily). Clip the nails first too
  5. Yeah, there was one jump where I went a bit low it went of at 6k, and I turned and tracked. When I looked behind me I saw the other 2 people coming after me! By that time it was the real breakoff, so I just kept tracking away. It was funny.
  6. Don't forget about the Crosskeys invasion in Sebastian (Starts Dec 27)! Can't beat the view! Even on regular weekends its busy and there's usually someone load organizing.
  7. That's why I set mine higher. Each of my warnings are set for about 1000 ft above my breakoff, pull, and hard deck altitudes. For me, the dytter tells me "If you're not already doing so, pay attention to your alti, it's time to go soon!!!" I mostly rely on my internal alarm, which will "go off" a couple hundred feet before my 1st Pro Track alarm. After that, I'm much more aware of my alti and start thinking more about breakoff than the dive/formation. I've also been told to set the pro track below the altitudes, but I don't want to start being dependent, and wait until those altitudes to act (which would cause me to breakoff and pull lower than I want to). And sometimes (rarely) I just hear the alarm and start to break off, even though I have another 1000 ft
  8. That is true - and I agree with taking the advice (or at least considering it strongly) of experienced jumpers/instructors that are aware of the person's skills and situation. I just don't agree with giving "blanket" advice to newer jumpers, just because it may have worked for them or their friends. And yes, it's nice to actually be able to fully flare the 150, even if it doesn't always happen
  9. Agreed...but I still think what other, more experienced skydivers say to a newbie about to buy his first gear can have a major effect on their canopy size. It may be true that the person will "get bored" after X jumps, but the individual's skill and experience level may not be taken into consideration when they are given advice. For me, personally, I get told all the time: "That canopy is too big for you" or "You'd be fine on a 135," even though I haven't reached the skill or experience to downsize yet. However, I'm also told by numerous other people (who I tend to trust and listen to more often) that I should wait until I am actually ready to downsize, not do it because I can. I only listen to the advice given by those that know my canopy skills (or lack thereof )
  10. I had BH in my old apartment and was forced to switch to Comcast when I moved into a new apartment complex. I had little to no trouble with BH and have had nothing but headaches with Comcast...
  11. Had a blast last year - looking forward to it again this year!
  12. Sure, I'll get right on that :) I'd rather buy new ones - too much work
  13. My Flex-Z Minis were great (until they fell apart) for me. I wear contacts and have a pretty small face. I'm going to try another pair and hopefully they'll hold up this time!
  14. 0 : 7 : 2 Jumps were 4 - 7 way RW jumps organized mostly by Lyle Presse. Had a great time and learned a bunch! Beer owed for first time riding down with the plane (thanks to air traffic control diverting air traffic over the DZ). Riding the plane down is way scarier than a skydive! Also got my B-license this weekend. I finally stopped being lazy and took the test It was a good weekend
  15. I just started working out again. I'm seeing a personal trainer 1x/week (I need to stay motivated somehow) and going on my own another 1-2x/week. Just trying to lose the 15 lbs I gained in the last 3 years of college and fit in my clothes again
