  1. As a newbie looking for my own personal gear I was wondering what all of the differences are between a collapsible slider and a non-collapsible slider. I know that with a collapsible slider it is considerably quieter. Are there any other advantages/disadvantages? Thanks for your input.
  2. To all those out there like myself who are stuck at their in-laws this weekend...I feel your pain. Being stuck in a house with people that I can't stand to be around for more than 1 hour for a total of 3 days is the deffinition of hell. So if anyone has stories of ways that their in-laws have annoyed you or pissed you off feel free to tell them here.
  3. I was sort of lucky in the parent division. My brother started skydiving years ago (that's how I got interested in it). So my mom was already desensitized about it because of him. The only thing she does with me is she doesn't want to know when I'm jumping and whenever she calls me she starts off with, "Well, you're still alive." Here is a site that might help her realize that skydiving is actually alot safer than most people think. http://www.skydivecsc.com/skydive/skydiving_statistics.php Good luck with your mom.
  4. I know as someone recently off student status I had to buy beer after almost every jump. Everyone at the DZ was very willing to give me directions to the neatest beer distributor. I also remember when someone at the DZ had a cutaway she had to buy a bottle of liquor for the guy who packed her reserve.
  5. Hurry up and get better. I need you to make my new vector that I just ordered today. There's only one man I know of who can put my magnetic riser covers on. Blue Skies
  6. Congrats. I kinda know how you're feeling. I just ordered my first rig today. I can't wait to get my hands on it. Let us all know how the first jump on her goes. Oh, and don't forget. First rig. BEER!!!
  7. Thought this one deserved a bump back to the top. As a newbie I've definitely learned alot by reading this. However, even only having 31 jumps, I myself have something to add. Jump #9 - I was anxious to get off radio (you know, the whole pride thing). My DZO still had me wear one but said that he wouldn't talk to me unless I was putting myself and/or his gear in danger. Well, went to turn into my final leg of my landing pattern. About 10 seconds after doing so I realized that I was going to horribly overshoot the landing area. After hearing me scream several obscenities the DZO got on the radio and directed me past the park cars, the dumpster and his trailer. Unfortunately, the only place I had to land was in a corner between a fence and some trees. Well, in that corner were some metal industrial pipes. Managed to land on those shins first while putting my canopy in a tree. Somehow I got lucky enough not to break any bones. Jump 15ish - it was a somewhat windy day, nothing to horrible, just with the setup of our landing area it meant that I had to land on the other side of the fence alongside the runway. Once again I horribly misjudged my landing pattern. Ended up making my one and only (so far) low hook turn. Only thing that saved me from breaking any bones was the fact that I landed in some nice soft mud. Also, managed to put my canopy on top of the fence. Got a very long talking to from the DZO once I made the long walk back. Needless to say, after those two incidents, for the next several jumps people would always ask me object I was going to land on that time. Oh well, all part of the learning process.
  8. QuoteOne thing that is often overlooked is that if it weren't for DZOs cooperating with Skyride it wouldn't be an issue at all. Those DZs who accept the Skyride certificates are no better than Ben and Cary. It would be similar to hanging out in titty bars, and complain about how immoral the dancers are for doing what they're doing. Their no better/worse than the guys stuffing dollars down their G-strings. I don't know if I would completely agree with that. I know that my DZO accepts skyride gift certificates but does not like them at all. He looks at it from the perspective of taking the person under his wing, informing them of how they've been scammed and introducing them to the REAL world of skydiving. He doesn't like to take their certificates because he looses money every time he does. He has heard countless stories of how people are turned away from the sport after their encounter with skyride. So he makes a point of letting these people know that this is not how the sport actually works. If it is someone who was sent several states away, after they jump (because the certificates can only be redeemed at a specific DZ) he'll direct them to a DZ in their area so that they can continue on with the sport.

  10. May I ask what audible it is that you are using? I'm not asking to soil the name of the company. I'm just curious because I only recently got my A lisence and just bought my first audible. So obviously this thread has me asking many questions.
  11. Pretty much everyone at my dz wears under armor when it gets cold out. That stuff is great. On the day that I got my lisence it was at most 40F on the ground. So you can imagine how cold it was at altitude, not to mention the obvious wind that you're going to feel. I didn't get the least bit cold. Grant it, on top of the underarmor i was wearing another pair of pants, a fleece shirt and a jumpsuit. But still, before I got the under armor I was freezing my tooshy off.
  12. Get well soon Bill. Blue Skies
  13. As someone who has recently gotten their A license I'm in the process of looking for my own gear. I've been looking at used but my problem is that I'm big for the sport. I'm 5'6" and 210lbs. Finding something to fit that is hard enough. Plus, I'm looking to get a 230 canopy, so finding something to fit that is even harder. I wanted to get used but after 2 months of searching the classifies every single day I'm pretty much going to be forced to buy new. I had the idea of buying new because I know that I'll be downsizing in the next year or two but what else can I do?
  14. Hey all. So I just recently got my A license. Now I'm completely hooked. My roommates think I'm nuts because everyday I watch the same skydiving videos that I downloaded and talk about it nonstop. I just recently graduated college and am in the search for a job. Does anyone have any ideas of what kind of job will allow me to jump evenings and weekends? I can't find anything that won't interfere with my jumping. Unfortuantely only having my A license I can't be an instructor or coach yet. Please help.
  15. Very few if any of your posts make sense. You just seem like the type of person who wants to raise shit and is never happy with anything. I get the impression that if she had jumped and had gotten seriously injured or died you would still be bitching out Jason Bell for not checking her credentials when they were questioned and pulling her badge. So, which would you prefer? For Jason to have made a mistake and pulled the badge of a perfectly qualified jumper? (which I do not believe to be the case) Or, allow someone underqualified who lied about their credentials to jump and get injured or even die? Please let me know because I'm really curious as to what your answer would be.
