So, why did you unhook the lines from the links they were on? Why not? Its how people learn and its not rocket science to correct any mistakes prior to jumping it

Just curious, whats wrong with the risers in this pic?

I like customers who are interested enough in their equipment to see exactly how it works. I don't mind when they bring in their reserves already assembled. Of course, I'm going to verify it's done correctly. And I don't mind when they bring in other work they've done to see if they've done it right. I think customers like that are more likely to be safer jumpers (risk management for me!), they are more likely to be repeat customers, and they are likely to bring me other new business. Mark Well, I took my rig to my rigger for its first pack and when he saw I had assembled it he frowned a little but carried on with a full inspection of everything. When he was done with the repack he told me I was the first he could remember who had brought gear to him assembled and done it all the right way

Thanks for all the replies guys. Just to be clear, I am not assembling my gear to save my rigger time I am doing it to learn about my gear. I am quite aware that he will go over everything and may pull the lines off the risers and reassemble them. I am not fussed about that. I certainly wouldn't take my gear to him again if he simply grabbed my gear and repacked it without checking everything out first.

Yep and I fully respect the fact that your job is to do a FULL inspection, and my job is to know as much about my gear as possible. For what its worth, assembling the various components as per the manual is not rocket science and so long as you don't snag lines on hook velcro, or pick at the lines it is my opinion that there is far more to be gained for a newish jumper doing this than leaving it to a rigger. Why not hook up my own reserve?

Hi all, I have 300odd jumps and have not jumped in two years. I will shortly be moving to a city with a dropzone again after living in the skydive wilderness and will be looking to get back in the air. In your experience what will the requirements be to get jumping again? Would it be reasonable to expect to do a coach or instructor jump or two?

Hey Tim, I am moving to Singapore from NZ in a month or so. Do you go up to Malaysia for any jumping or is it a bit of a mission? Do you have your rig with you and if so do you have any problems storing it with the humidity? Cheers.

my canopy (safire 2 155) ended up in the ocean after a chop.i fished it out about half an hour later and chucked it in a bath of fresh water,had a couple of beers then hosed it off and went home.at home i put it in to soak again and due to circumstances was unable to get home to hang it to dry till later that day.all up it has soaked for bout 24 hours. do you anticipate any problems with lines shrinking ect

I have a javelin odyssey thats a couple hundred jumps old.I have just noticed that the main closing pin has scored/scratched the grommet on the flap and the outside edge of the pin is roughed up from this contact.The pin doesn't actually have any burs on it just a bit rough.My closing loop is ok,no excessive wear and i dont think the outer curve of the pin actually comes into contact with the loop on opening anyway.Is this roughing up of the pin normal.

does anyone know the roughly how fast a canopy (say 100sq ft for arguments sake) descends after it is cut away.

if security opened your reserve what would you do,stuff it in a rubbish bag and carry it on or try to repack it and close the container.
