  1. There are a few of us... I would have to disagree on both points. The TSO requirements have been changed to allow canopies to snivel or have longer deployments. These same reserves, although they may have met the TSO requirements, may not actually meet the TSO requirements of another older TSO like in some of the H/Cs still have. Besides the fact that if the snivelly reserve is installed with a "standard" Cypres or any other aad that fires at 700-750 feet, you probably did not need the Cypres anyway because it probably ain't gonna work. Simple math applies here. You are a couple of seconds from impact and now you have a slow opening reserve.. What bothers me is that most people just do not get it and some of those people are in a position that could provide a little bit of a safety net for it's members. Also, all 7-cell reserves do not fly the same. At least with the several that I have "tested".Some stall faster, turn faster,etc... Funny that this thread came up tonight. I have a meeting in the AM about this very subject! MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  2. You can. You can change the needle bar to one that will accept a 2.02 shank needle and install a 135 X 17 needle in it. You then adjust the lifter assembly to max lift capability or install some Seiko single needle lift parts in it to maximize the lift height. Call Bob Mehl. I think he bought it. He might just let you have it for 900 bucks or so.... MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  3. Someone bought it already! MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  4. The 265 Durkopp is a good one if you can find one. The one I posted is one of my machines here in the shop. The Singer 143W is a great machine. If you use a 135 X 17 needle in it you can gain a lot in the way of presser foot clearance and thicker materials. I can sew 7 layers of Type IV with no problem on the one in the shop. (143W2) Here is a photo of one: [inline singer_143.jpg] Cheers, MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  5. roger that! MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  6. I have never seen one of those! Is it a lockstitch machine or a chainstitch machine? With all of the tensioners it looks like a chainstitch machine from the photo. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  7. Does it look like this? [inline durkopp_265.jpg] MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  8. Someone seriously needs to look at buying this if you are looking for a zigzag. Probably just needs a needle and timed. It is well below market value. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Consew-199R-1A-head-only-Sewing-Machine-/251424456115?pt=BI_Textile_Equipment&hash=item3a8a10bdb3 Photo here [inline consew_199.jpg] MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  9. If it is built for #69 (e thread), it will not work for 5 cord. The reason is the hook to race clearance and also the clearance at the positioning finger. IF...and I did say IF..., the positioning finger clearance is increased, it MIGHT work, but I truly doubt it. I have some 135 X 7 #25 needles here that you could use to see. 10. What is the machine class and sub-class? I am thinking it probably is a 265-XX... MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  11. A standard cessna only came with 4 seat belts. To add more requires a field approval. Also it depends on the STC with the door removal/mod/skydiving configuration as to how many jumpers are listed on the approval. There are a few different STCs out there;all with different data. Lastly, it could be a weight and balance issue even if the STC allows 5 jumpers. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  12. A problem with that thread is that it states that the Esprit was basically the same wing as the Nova. It was absolutely not. I had hundreds of jumps on both. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  13. They replaced it with the PRO Series. The PRO series had a larger lipped nose and was a more tapered airfoil. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  14. The Brass grommets that are installed will turn a greenish, turquoise color after being subjected to a moist or cold environment. With that said most brass grommets on older canopies will turn if they are not used for sometime. Just have a rigger look for mildew and also have him/her clean or replace the grommets. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  15. It was not modified, It was built that way from the start. It is a slightly tapered wing that was brought out in 1994. Actually a pretty good canopy even by todays standards. It flys like a Sabre with a deeper toggle response and flare. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  16. I have some older manuals lying around here and will look through them for it. How do you like the new clamp system that they show in the manual that you posted? Pretty slick I think as it really makes clamp changeout painless. Also, this machine is in really good shape the best that I can tell. My wife will shoot me if I buy another... http://www.ebay.com/itm/JUKI-Bartacking-Machine-Used-LK-1900HS-/181297896439?pt=BI_Sewing_Machines&hash=item2a36325bf7 MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  17. They may have made some that way,but a standard "1900" did not come with it. I have a early 1900 and also (2) of the 1900A-HS here in the shop now. So just to be clear; you are saying that a 1900-SA has pneumatics on it; not a 1900A-XX.......correct??? Well it has a different drive system, improved oiling system, different electronic switches, and is 200 RPM faster. 3200 rpm vs 3000 rpm on the 1900A model. I do not know for sure, but I am betting that it would not work. The servo drives need to be compatible with the servo motors. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  18. Yes they do, but it be an air pump attached at the machine itself. They are mostly used on sewing machines that are sewing thick fabric really fast and in a short amount of time. This type of sewing builds up heat on the needle and melts the thread at the eye of the needle. Another solution to the heat problem is to use Titanium coated needles instead. 19. Terry, The numbers are like this: LK = Cylinder arm bartack machine 1900 is the series and revisions follow the 4 digit number. Examples are 1900,1900A,and 1900AN The last two are subclass identifiers. SS = Standard duty HS= Heavy Duty WS = Heavy duty with large hook There are a few more subclass identifiers but we really do not want to use those. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  20. There are just three reasons to use compressed air on a bartacker. 1.To raise and lower the presser clamp. 2.To operate a special made fixture or jig for a special application that would hold the work part or parts in place for sewing. 3. To feed the material into the machine Air lifted clamps are usually installed on the older mechanical tackers to eliminate fatigue in the worker and to speed up production. Since the Juki 1900s come with an electronic presser foot lift, the need for a air operated lift is basically eliminated. But to answer your question; no, I have not seen a factory 1900 come with air on it. With the larger pattern tackers (yes, there is a difference...) I have in fact seen air operated lifts installed on them. These are the 1910,1920,and 1930 series machines. [inline LK_1930_SS.jpg] I have a heavy duty 1900AN-WS on order right now. This has the extra large hook and bobbin case. Any of the 1900 machines are great for the rigging loft though. Examples: LK-1900-SS, LK-1900-HS, LK-1900A-SS, or LK-1900A-HS and etc.... Also of note, the EProm that we have will fit any of the above models including the LK-1900AN-WS. Cheers, MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com

  22. Terry, The 550 is great for the lighter sewing machines that you may use for patching and general purpose. I have about a dozen or so that I have replaced with these. The CS1000 is great for the walking foot and double needle sewing machines. The one feature that is great on this model is the ability to set the "ramp up" or start up speed. You also have the overall top speed adjustment. As far as the extra heavy duty machines (like a Class 7 or 144W) , I would stick with the clutch motors. The inertia of the flywheel is hard to beat for these machines. You can also try this guy: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEWLINE-SLS1000-NEW-SERVO-MOTOR-BEST-AVAILABLE-110V-INDUSTRIAL-SEWING-MACHINE-/221346280674?pt=BI_Sewing_Machines&hash=item33894434e2 They are all the same motors with different name plates as stated before. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  23. Chris, Snaps are probably your answer. I have installed them on a couple of sliders for this reason. The stud of the snaps are installed on a tab that is sewn to each riser about two inches down. The button is sewn to the outer border of the slider. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  24. They actually have not changed that much in the last 12 years are so. Maybe a 1/8" or so here and there on a couple of different sizes. I would strongly suggest not to advise anyone to make a line set for a high performance canopy "+/- an inch or two...". Just my two cents worth. This is coming from someone that has built, tested, and jumped thousands of line sets. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  25. Vectran or any of the Aramids or Paramids will not elongate 2.5". Usually about 1/4' of elongation takes place during the life of a standard line set. Someone else may have made the previous line sets though. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
