  1. Probably, in part, because of this...and their response to this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dvy7ywQK18 Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  2. That routing should only be done for hop n' pops in my opinion. I used to do it as well for competitions, but there is absolutely no reason to do it for freefall jumps. Equipment is getting very specialized. Its hard to have something that does everything well. If you want to freefall, gear up appropriately. If you want to competitively swoop, swoop your face off on a hop n pop. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  3. Thats a pretty good option. Do you have to have a pilots license to be a member? I'll read up more on this. thank you! Regards, Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  4. I did a search here. Thought I'd do a final 'crowd source' before I pick a direction. I've been skydiving or been around it my entire life. I love it. I carry a mon-fri engineering job and pick a day on the weekends to jump. I'm fairly active, 200 - 300 jumps a year. I'm at the stage of my life where I want life insurance to protect my wife and any future family that we may start. Most life insurance policies will include skydiving for a flat extra rate of about $2.50 - $7.00 per 1k of coverage. For a 1M policy, that is a premium of $2,500 - $7,000 per year to cover skydiving. I'm very up front with the insurance companies that I explicitly want skydiving covered. Considering the costs involved, I see the following options for a 1M policy: 1. Pay the premium 2. Quit skydiving (for 2 years at least) 3. Get 2 policies: One that covers skydiving (say 500K) and one that does not. Anyone out there have an amazing company that charges less than $2.50/1K? I know some employers have options, but my death benefit is limited to 50K. Considering my mortgage in California, the 1M policy is my goal. I've looked into the USPA options and they come out to about $2.50/1K as well. Seems like if anyone would know the statistics it would be the USPA. Seems that is as low as it gets. Got any other good options? Thanks! Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

  6. Probably the Katana? I never liked the openings, but it can swoop. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  7. Maybe people think bad things about Lodi because the folks involved in the fraudulent ratings courses are still allowed to jump and work there? But yeah I know, who likes rules and stuff. Who cares about ratings. USPA is useless and Sigma ratings don't mean anything. Its all overblown right? I mean there haven't been two, maybe three tandem fatalities or anything from instructors related to those courses. 8. Awwwww shucks Thanks for the kind words. I'm an instructor out at Tracy and would be happy to answer any questions you have. You can email me at jacketsdb23 at gmail or reach out directly to skydive california at www.skydivecal.com. Hopefully we can meet and you find what you are looking for. FYI we don't even have a bonfire, for risk of burning the state down Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  9. You could try to get on the waiting list for Rich Grimms Exotic Boogies. Hits all the points you describe. I wouldn't call it cheap, but its not crazy expensive either. I would say it has lots of value. They are going to be in Belize this year and returning to Costa Rica (Rumor) next year. 10. Some canopies are upwards of $4,000 USD. For those of us that open those canopies at 13K - $60/year subscription doesn't seem that bad. Call it insurance. However, the alternative model of 'per use' might also work. You'd probably have to up the 'per use' cutaway cost to make the model work, but we all know people that will pay $100 - $200 to get their canopy back. This has been used successfully for the same purpose: http://www.iotatracker.com/ Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  11. I recently upgraded to a Samsung S8+ and can't get the files to upload from my Dropbox (or SD Card). Its unfortunate because I really like the app. I'll probably duplicate the info and start over but it would be really great if there was an app that was supported, in an ongoing manner. bummer. 12. A licensed skydiver can go 'coach' an A-Licensed skydiver without a coach rating from USPA. There are plenty of newly minted A-licensed skydivers that could use experienced guidance, and you don't have to be a coach to do that. Just willing to spend time and money out of your own pocket to do it. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  13. You don't need an instructor rating to do a 3way or 4way with A-Licensed newbies to teach them critical skills. Most qualified people don't or won't do this unless their slot is paid for or they are getting paid as an organizer. 14. It takes two forces: 1) Experienced jumpers willing to dedicate time to smaller groups, briefs, and debriefs to develop the skills of the new jumpers and 2) new jumpers willing to be taught. There are few experienced jumpers with the necessary skills to teach that don't want to be paid for their efforts. The ones with enough experience are doing their own thing or working doing Tandems and AFF's. The gap between 25 jumps and 200 jumps has always been tough for the sport. 15. I believe you forgot: 3. get rid of stiletto that recovers waaaaaay too fast and forces you to ride fronts too low. lol I will second the get rid of the stiletto. Stiletto is a fine wing, but not for what you are looking for. Get a sabre / safire type wing at 1.3 to start progressing. You are going to develop a very bad sight picture and tendencies on the stilleto for the next canopy. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  16. I can't imagine a true bail situation close to the ground where risers are the answer over toggles. A true stab out on toggles has got to be more efficient at getting your body under the canopy. I guess I could be proven wrong. 17. I will tell you from experience that running a league takes ungodly time commitments, is expensive (out of pocket money), requires personal and professional sacrifice, and is a big pain in the ass. Albert down in Florida and Brad Moon in New England will tell you the same thing. Its extremely hard to get a league going and keep it going. You are spoiled in that you have a good supported league relatively close by. I would put whatever effort you can into supporting Brad's league in NJ. Fly fast and have fun! 18. Richo, you do bring up a very interesting point. This only works if the bottom end operation (i.e. speed cypres ceases operation below 330') moves with the armed/fire offset. Would be interesting question for mfg. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  19. I wouldn't do that mainly for the fact that I do take that rig terminal. Shit happens :)
  20. Some pilots can reach >102 mph. Most pilots flying those canopies try to reach that :) Only takes one perfect swoop.... Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  21. The ability to make a mistake on the mode setting is the same. My comment was towards those talking about hitting the firing parameter on a speed cypres with the new generation of canopies. The cypres in the speed setting will still activate the reserve if you hit the firing parameters after your main canopy opens. The argus goes into standby after the main canopy opens in swoop mode. 22. Argus has (had?) the answer and they were bullied out of the market. I use an Argus in swoop mode in my Mirage container with the Petra 68 loaded over 3.0. In Swoop Mode on an Argus the AAD goes into standby once the main canopy is deployed. This is the best solution in my opinion to having an AAD with an ultra performance canopy. FYI - I have also seen an Argus fire on final when the owner thought the AAD was in swoop mode, but it was not.
