  1. So - what really happened here? Pooley led courses without an IE rating, or a suspended rating, and tried to submit that paperwork or sat on it until he got his rating back? How did Yuri get tied up in this? I believe his rating was good until USPA recently suspended it. Did Pooley teach the courses and have Yuri sign off on the paper work? I'm having trouble understanding exactly what led to 140 people getting ripped off. I've got some friends that are in quite the odd stance of having to repay for an expensive course. Sucks balls. 2. If [and i mean IF, as I find it hard to believe myself] if the TI was not rated by mfg. or USPA, this statement would be true. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

  4. actually held to the standard? Hard question to answer but by many accounts there is actual little enforcement. Which is what we want right? Self regulating sport. So the USPA actually stays out of most day to day operations. But God forbid you have a double fatality involving a tandem. DZ #1 USPA DZ, by the book for the most part, USPA support = operating within the 'industry standard'. DZ #2 Non USPA DZ, no support, history of not operating within industry standard? Which DZ do you want to try to defend in the court of public opinion? I've jumped at Lodi, I don't have a dog in this fight. I've also jumped at a USPA DZ that I've had a very public disagreement with how things operate. If we want to be self regulating, lets be self regulating and call things out when we see them. You can bash the USPA but I'd sure want their support right now if I was Lodi. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  5. So I finally did it. I put a used Argus into my container with a Petra 68. Its on Swoop Mode and I verify that before each jump. So far so good. As I stated earlier, I'm OK with the failure mode of not working when it should. Per the mfg., unit stops monitoring when it detects an open canopy. Has anyone heard of a Swoop Mode Argus firing with an open main? I have heard of an Argus firing when the mode was switched after coming back from a repack - but I'm not aware of a misfire while in swoop mode. 6. I'm very interested in your work. For what its worth, I just installed an Argus on my swoop container with a Petra 68 in it. The Argus is set to swoop mode, which by mfg. definition will disarm the AAD after it interprets an open canopy. I hope this feature is more readily available on future AAD's. Good luck with your testing! Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  7. Wendy, from Keny: Marcel, each pack's torso length is adjustable by several inches, but we'll be working on that variability as well as making different sized packs as needed. So, yes, we'll get everyone's size before we ship and send a pack that fits. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  8. I know I have a lot of base jumper and skydiving friends who travel the world and like to travel light. My friend Kenny Flannery has a product to help you achieve this...the Freestyle BivyPack. Check out his kickstarter here. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/111493935/freestyle-bivypack-the-backpack-that-turns-into-a?ref=video I'm sure he'd welcome any feedback and of course your support if you'd like one of these bad boys for your travels! I'd be happy to pass along any comments you have on this project to him. Merry Christmas! Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  9. Cool, so your the guy that shows up at another DZ and thinks the rules don't apply to you. Good to know. You probably could have left all of that out and had a decent conversation on what actually happened. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  10. your wing loading is aggressive for your jump numbers. the tips you are getting in this thread and those that you should be getting at your home DZ should be done on a larger canopy. I would suggest a 190. Just some food for thought. Good luck. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  11. My personal opinion on this (worth what you paid for): Openings: Worst, slightly ahead of mamba...but anytime you introduce the mamba into a discussion...I digress Dive: for fucking miles. Point it at the ground it will go. Landings: I always found the crossfire easier to shut down, didn't find a lot of flare power with the katana. I personally enjoyed the crossfire 2 more, mostly because the openings on the Katana were so rough, and at that stage of my progression I was doing a lot of video. Bottom line is, anyone getting a new canopy should demo the different canopies available and choose what is right for them. #swoop Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  12. What does the Extreme offer that current vigil and cypres speed can't? Is this just an increased speed software update or something different entirely? Like shutting off after main canopy opens? Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  13. My comp velo 84, loaded about the same, I had relined with HMA 400's. So I can't speak to the Vectran line set. However, I never used the snaps. Simply quartered the slider, wrapped the tail with 2-3 locking twists close to the slider to keep it up and laid it down. I had a typical stowed mirage bag. Never had a slammer. I used the comp velo 84 frequently for work (AFF and some camera). During that setup, I just used the removable slider. I put the full RDS on for comps and practice, but I didn't notice much of a difference in terms of openings. I always considered the openings positive (compared to the safire/crossfire lines I progressed from) but certainly never hard. 14. I have over 1000 Velo openings with an RDS, probably more than half of those at terminal. Not a single issue. PD recommends against it, however, I like being able to take my slider off instead of stowing it behind me. I'd think there is another issue enhancing the 'positive' openings on your velo. 15. I've landed several times in a plane with a student over the past couple of years and each time I turn the AAD off. One time I wasn't able to get the Argus off, and that was the longest 2000 ' to landing strip ever. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  16. I think so too. I believe Argus proved that, they certainly had many swoop mode AADs without a fire (to my knowledge) due to the unit not disarming after a canopy opening. With the choices in the market today, im seriously considering a used Argus. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  17. Why aren't RSL's being pushed more for this function? I don't understand the reservation of having an RSL with a HP canopy. I've never heard of anyone spinning in on line twists on a reserve due to an RSL induced reserve opening on a HP canopy. AAD is for opening a canopy if you are knocked out prior to activating a parachute. RSL is for a reserve deployment after cutting away. To me its really that simple. A kill switch (automated or manual) for the cypres would be amazing. Or your new AAD. Its time. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  18. I think turning the unit off after deployment is best for swoopers wanting an AAD. RSL is the answer for those wanting a backup after main deployment. What is the timeline on your new product? Kudos for venturing into the sport AAD world. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  19. 1.3.4 «SWOOP» Mode The Argus releases at 820 Ft. (250 meters) and below if a speed is reached equal or higher than 78 mph (35 m/sec). The Argus stops monitoring and goes to stand-by after it detects an opened parachute. Please be aware that this mode is not suitable for wingsuit-flyers! Does anyone have contact info for someone who can speak with certainty on how this algorithm works? The standby feature appears to be the only difference between standard and swoop modes. Not much else in the manual. This feature is very appealing to me. edited to add: paraconcepts services argus. Ill ask them Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  20. I would argue an RSL is better for that case. Might look into Argus option. I need to understand the disarming mechanism better in swoop mode. Im ok with it possibly not working if it needs too, but not the other way around. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  21. I wonder why vigil and cypres dont offer the shut down/disarm option after open canopy like the Argus swoop mode? Is this to protect for no pull after cutaway Or is the algorithm too challenging? I suppose the market is probably limited as well, but id buy it if cypres offered it. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  22. Thanks Ian. I wonder if Cypres would be willing to customize the speed unit to shut off after detecting an open canopy. I'm sure its complicated within the algorithm. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  23. I've been using a speed cypres 2 with my velo 79 for years. I was/am comfortable with it. Now that I'm flying a Petra 68 - I've put it in a rig without an AAD. I still have the speed cypres 2 AAD with my velo for work jumps. I'm interested in opinions and options for an AAD while jumping ultra performance canopies. I like the idea of the AAD shutting off when the canopy is open, like the swoop option on Argus. However you feel about the need/desire for an AAD on hop n' pops, I think its worth exploring my options. Argus - Swoop mode (its allowed in Mirage containers - different opinions on effectiveness in the industry) Cypres 2 (speed) - New Speed Cypres 2 activation speed is 102 mph and it disarms at 330ft. Is this acceptable for flying a canopy at a WL of 3.0? For those of you with lots of data while training with the flysight, what speeds are you hitting? I do not want/desire an AAD for opening reserve after a cutaway. I only want it until my main canopy is open. Thoughts and perspective from top canopy pilots who have data on decent rates during swoops? Thanks! Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.

  25. I don't mean to come across naive here and act like people don't jump wet containers/reserves, but the decision to jump a wet reserve should really not come down to if you have an optimum or PDR or . If you know your reserve is wet and continue jumping...you are doing so in less than ideal conditions regardless of the mfg. we all roll the dice and take our chances. I don't think anyone is going to advocate jumping a wet PDR or Optimum. I think the benefits of the smaller pack volume for people who jump tiny canopies / containers would out weigh concerns of a wet reserve. Stay safe out there.
