I typically agree with the entire "pick yourself up by your bootstraps" stuff but life is very different in the slums of Kenya. When I was there I worked with men that outworked every American that was with us. Many of the workers did not even own shoes. I'm not sure what it is now but two years ago the average daily wage was $3 a day. These people worked from before sun up and well past sundown for less than peanuts. And I have met MANY people from Kibera(the slums) and have yet to meet one that liked living there. It pisses me off when people attempt to compare life here to there. When I was there I took a pastor out for tea. When I tried to pay he was greatly insulted. He told me that the Kenyans do NOT want a hand out, they want jobs to earn a living. They havn't been living off the governments tit like many have here in the states. They WANT to work. You say that no one is keeping his brother in Kenya. Where is he going to go? Rwanda? Uganda? I've heard life is like paradise in the Sudan! something funny and unique

Ahhh just got a good 2 hours in ! woohooo I feel I can take on the world now. Thanks we hope to have it completed this fall and ready to release this spring. It's funny that you say this.... I start shooting another doc this coming week on violence in youth sports. We are focusing on how parents/coaches treat the youth playing. I will be calling my wife's friend today to see if the comments about her son are being made in summer league ball as well. A a film maker I have always dreamed of going back to my tiny home town to produce something. Last year the opportunity to produce a historical documentary came up and my home town was smack dab in the middle of it. I loaded the family up in Moesha (our mini-van) and said goodbye to the mountains of central Oregon. Some say you can never go home. Well, that may well be true. I have forgotten how closed this town is to outsiders. I can handle it just fine, I'm here to work. My four year old has had a difficult time making friends. It has taken almost a year for the other kids in story time to sit next to him. My wife started a mommies group with the other outsiders here, a woman pastor and the mom to the only black family in the region. My wife let me now that her friend can't take it here anymore. Her oldest boy is one of the best athletes in the school, the only problem is that he is black. This last year he has endured abuse from his classmates and his COACH! They are moving as soon as her husband(who is white) can find a job elsewhere. I can't believe that people still think like this. We have another 6 months here. I can not wait to get my family out of this place! sorry, for the mini-rant but I could not get back to work until I let something out. something funny and unique

1. I worked around shit for 3 seasons when I serviced National Forest Bathrooms. I didn't mind the smell because it was in my job description. -Smelling someone's nasty smoke smell was not. I do not believe that "being forced to smell a coworker that smells like ass was in the original posters job description either. 2.Why does someone not have the right to ask someone to do something about their odor, yet the coworker has the selfish right to force the people around them to smell something that makes them gag?
