  1. Take all the different interpretations you could possibly have - pick the trashiest one - & answer the question based on that. :)
  2. hahaha i'm new to this sport, give me time.. i want to hear stories from the more experienced.. damn! ur right! i should have!
  3. here. this is what the thread should look like. spill :)
  4. - none - (yet?) i just want to hear some trashy stories from you guys... maybe i'll start another thread with that title
  5. hahahahaha when I glanced at the thread names, I thought the title of this one read 'how many skydivers have you done'
  6. Edit: Device Manager is under the Hardware tab when you open System
  7. To check on your PC.. you can go to control panel--> System--> Device Manager --> open the Universal Serial Bus Controllers tab --> and if you have a high speed port, one of the things under that will say USB 2.0
  8. It'll still work even if your USB port isn't high-speed.. it just won't copy stuff across at the optimum potential speed.
  9. But isn't half the thrill of the sport the challenge to be able to do it yourself perfectly?
  10. Hahahahahaha that's one of the funniest things I have ever read!
  11. That is awesome that you go there!! I'm so so so glad! What year are you? I probably will be in the US Jan - June 2007 - will you still be at school?? What are you sudying? The reason why I can't go to Texas or Davis or anywhere out of this list is because I'm doing 3 majors & it is such a bitch to find a place where I can get credit for all of them - Media & Communications, Computer Science & French. I want to take a course in Film/ TV production which is the thing that is severely narrowing my choices. I hear UW-Seattle has a really good digital & experimental media dept? I was very strongly thinking about one of the UCs but that's only because I don't know much about anywhere else.. now I'll definitely look into Seattle more closely! Yay! I will have a friend!! :)
  12. I'm so glad you posted this thread!! I had to wake up at 4am so I could co-ordinate weekend public transport to get to the DZ in time for my AFF ground training.
  13. I am going to do a sudy abroad in the US next year... have just compiled a list of universities that offer the courses I want. All I have to go by though are university websites & the tourism sites for the cities they are in. Can any of you guys in the US please give me some insider advice? I will probably be on a pass/fail so priorities will be awesome student social life, great campus, chilled but fun city with lots to do, a good DZ & proximity to ski slopes. I don't want to pick simply based on ranking but want the place where I will get the best all-round student experience. My options are: UCLA UC-San Diego UC-Santa Cruz University of Arizona U of Washington - Seattle U of Illinois - Urbana Champaign Please rank the top 3! Thanks in advance!

Here is a photo from Kashmir.. the cliffs in the back give you an idea however they are in no way reflective of all that is there. Edit to first post: the place is called Sonamarg not Pahelgam.
  16. I don't know about driving but I have done the train a few times.. it takes about an hour and a half. You take the train to Cambelltown station and then switch onto Southern Highlands line and get off at Picton. If you just ring up the DZ when you get there, someone will pick you up. Another option that I have taken is hopping on the tandem bus. They have a bus that leaves from the city at 7am each morning to take tandems down and if you just ring up and ask, it's usually not a problem to hop on the bus. It takes about an hour. You have to call the evening before and it is subject to whether or not there are tandems going down & whether there is space - it usually isn't a problem but sometimes it could be. Everyone at the DZ is incredibly helpful & nice and they will go out of their way to sort you out. Hope this helps!
  17. was with a base jumper once.. when the saga started, i didn't even know what base jumping was... when i got exposed to the jumping scene, my reaction was more along the lines of "what?! there is a structured way to get into that as a sport?! i want to try it!" but for what it's worth, a lot of my friends simply referred to him (when he wasn't there) as 'base jumper' and had this illusion of him as being sexy - even before they met him.. so i guess some girls like allure of danger that being a jumper gives a guy. personally, i think this guy would have been just as sexy- jumper or not.

I was thinking about this the other day actually.. I have been to Kashmir (India side) a few times and I was just thinking that some of the cliffs I have seen there would be really jumpable (in my completely non-professional opinion). There is a place in Kashmir called Pahelgam. There is an army base at the bottom, from there you can hire guys with horses and they take you up these cliffs - those are the ones I think you would be able to jump. But the landing areas aren't that easy. There is a river running at the bottom and there are large flat rocks all around it. I don't really know how big base landing areas need to be but I think it would be do-able.
  19. The reason for such a big canopy size is that I am interested in being prepared for base. My focus is going to be accuracy. I am going to be in the US for a while late next year and would like to take a FJC there as the terrain in Australia is supposed to be really hard for a beginner to start from. So I guess my aim is to be ready to take the course with adequate preparation by that time. This is not at the expense of skydiving though, I figure that accuracy skills will no doubt help me with skydiving. Then when I return from the US, I'll be able to get a base specific rig and then downsize this one and get into the non-base related skydiving disciplines. But who knows, I might chicken out. I would just like to have gear that would suit all my needs. I know my jump numbers are ridiculously low to even be bringing gear questions up but I am seriously reading, reading, reading - books, reviews, old threads, manufacturer's manuals.. I am just throwing questions I have around..
  20. I have done tons of research and am looking through used gear.. and the biggest problem is that all the rigs I have found that will fit the canopy sizes I want (210+ main, 170+ reserve) have been built for big guys (5'10'' +). I am only 5'4'', 131ish lbs.. I was wondering if it is possible for a master rigger to re-size a harness that much? If not, how much can a harness be re-sized? What are the costs like? What potential problems will I face if I took this route? I'm on a tight budget & will not be able to afford a new container.. so I figured if I bought something relatively cheap and paid for it to be re-sized, I am still saving heaps! Thanks!
  21. I noticed that too and concluded that it's probably because you have all this time to kill and nothing else to do while waiting for weather or to get on a load..

    FF vs. Swimming

Does that mean these kind of turns are easier to do in the air than the water? (In terms of the effort & flexibility it takes to manipulate your body)

    FF vs. Swimming

I've barely done any jumps so I wouldn't know the answer to this at all.. but I was swimming today and a thought struck me. If you are underwater in a swimming pool and doing rolls (360 degrees vertical) backwards, forwards etc.. is it similar to FF? I mean under water you have the pressure of the water around you and you are adjusting your body position accordingly. Could the pressure of this water be compared at all to the pressure of the air when freefalling? And also, would your body positions when FF and the way you manipulate movements be similar to the body positions when doing these movements under water? Thanks!
  24. This might be a dumb question but I really have to ask it just to satisfy my own curiousity.. Why can't you (or rather can you) use a canopy that is a reserve as a main? What are the technical reasons behind the answer? Thanks!
