  1. So I'm finally getting back in the air - it's been a few months. Stupid new company and stupid busy-ness. FedEx'd my rig to Paragon this morning for a repack, should be waiting for me when I arrive. Anyone I know going to be at Z-Hills this weekend? If so, let me know - if you don't mind jumping with someone who's probably forgotten everything he learned, I'd love some company. Bonus points (and perhaps a job) if you're a sky-photog, I need some x-mas card photos taken. -Peter _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" 2. You coulda just called me to begin with, and it wouldn't have cost you anything. _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."

  4. Hiya. Been super busy. Made the mistake of starting www.helpareporter.com in March, which guaranteed that by June, it'd be consuming my life. We blew past 30,000 members this morning. I haven't jumped since June 5. Also, I figured a vacation from DZ was probably in order since it took a few months to remove the taste of my own foot from inserting it into my mouth in my last post. So if y'all have me, sure I'll come back. Why not. Now I just gotta get my reserve repacked, do a currency jump, and get back in the game. Piece of cake, right? _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."
  5. Nope - Jew Tube - unless it was just a play on You-Tube that I missed. _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."

  10. Hey gang... Sending this on from an email I forwarded to PR peeps. Hope anyone in the DC/NoVa/Balt area comes and joins! All: I'm coming down to DC to speak at the Department of Defense, and while I'm there, Dittus Communications was nice enough to arrange a happy hour in my honor. (Shocked the heck out of me, too!) With that said, it'd be lovely to reconnect with you, would love to have you stop by for a drink or two. I do hope to see you! For those who can't see the image invitation, the address is: Bobby Van's Grill 1201 New York Ave NW, Washington, DC - (202) 589-1504 Festivities begin at 6 p.m. 6pm. Do hope to see you! -Peter Shankman 646-522-9234 _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."
  11. Agreed - Gas prices aren't coming down - what will change is our views as a society, no question. Things we used to take for granted before will now simply change. Drive to work every day? Say hell to Mass Transit. Store after work a few times a week? Say hello to discount clubs, once a month. It's going to be a massive lifestyle shift - one that we've never seen before in our or previous generations. _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" 12. The lessons, the gear, and the jump ticket were still cheaper than filling up the tank for the commute home. _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."

  14. Will do. I've actually slammed him on several different things about their publicity. If I can get my hands on a bunch of samples, I'll give them out here. If not, will find out where you can buy them specifically. -Peter _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."

  19. Amen, brother. We had a jumper pull another jumper back in the plane this weekend. His reserve had opened and the pilot chute was on the floor. Keep your eyes open, watch out for your buddies, and get a gear check. Let's all be around for our DZ's Christmas party this year, okay? Just curious - You pulled him back into the plane with a pilot chute out as opposed to pushing him out the door? Just trying to grasp that - couldn't that have been dangerous, or am I missing something? _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."
  20. Hey gang... Any military types here ever hear of the National Defense University? www.ndu.edu? Been asked to speak there next week on new media and social media... They're asking for my ssn, among other things, so figured I'd ask here before I replied. They seem legit, just wanted to confirm before I head to DC. Anyone? Thanks. :-) Peter _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."
  21. Exactly why I'll land a little further back. Let someone else deal with avoidance issues at 50 feet. And that's great. But, also worth building up the skills so that if one day you are 50 feet up and heading straight for someone on the ground you will be able to avoid them. Agreed again - But still say I can do that without endangering other people (or myself) by simply practicing no matter where I land. _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" 22. No comparison. I'm FINE now. No aches, no pains, nothing. It's so much easier on my body, it's not even funny. _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" "Even in freefall, I have commitment issues."
  23. Nice job! My next goal, like I said, is my Apt to the Ranch - decent ride, almost all on Rt. 9W. Of course, Sunday found me doing this: http://shankman.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/ztkbsps3.jpg :) _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" 25. You can't see the hills on the Palisades. Nightmare. I'm thinking of doing it from my apartment to the Ranch one day.... Plot out 55 Sand Hill Lane, Gardiner, NY. About 88 miles off highway. Mostly Rout 9 all the way. Would be a killer ride. Would hope to be able to steal a ride back with people. :) _______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?"
