Also, ironic has a different meaning, I think.

English language dictionaries are freely available for you to use. I had to use references to find the meaning of QED and laughed pretty hard when I did.

Columbus was Portuguese, which makes Columbus Day as an Italian holiday particularly ironic (nothing written by Columbus, to include letters to his family, suggets knowledge of Italian).

Very little written by one person in this thread suggests knowledge of English.

I guess it's saying why do you care so much to jump all over airdvr? It's his life. Not worth getting worked up over.

    Wendy P.

Some come here to post. Some come here to judge posts. Some do both. Only men would count bodies publically. Women would just act as if we never have met and move on.

removing traitors who commit espionage IS very American.

    Where is the Russian file?

What nuke secrets did Trump sell to Saudi???

Advocating for the gunning down of political opponents openly on social media is something I associate with the extreme right wing. It’s also possibly a good way to attract unwanted attention from certain government agencies. But hey, if you love your weapons, I guess you need to find ways to make them useful.

Personally, I'd love to see Biden debate Trump on stage, and when Trump says something particularly obnoxious (like maybe a minute or two into the debate), or when he refuses to shut up, Biden just pulls out a pistol and personally puts a bullet into Trump's head.

But I'm not a very nice guy about this sort of thing.

    How very American of you.

Even the most cursory reading of the book of Genesis makes it clear that the entire universe is sacred to Jews, Christians and Islamists.

Did not The Lord give his people dominion over the land?

Ought we not limit our wokeness to this planetary body? And if such a contraction to our area of offense taking is reasonable, maybe a little more contraction in other domains is also reasonable. For sure, it is clearly possible to be too woke:

"The Navajo Nation, America's largest Indigenous tribe, has raised concerns over the presence of human cremated remains on the lander vehicle, calling the mission a "desecration" of the Moon which holds a sacred place in their culture."

There would seem to be hardly a grain of sand anywhere that is not sacred to some indigenous person.

And in Arizona they spring for the energy to air condition everything. So everyone else suffers carbon overload, increased taxes, and Brent being right on occasion, because some people live in extreme environments? Interesting outlook, there.

Yes, there’s a significant level of cynicism in most of us around the issue.

Yes TK. We know that Idling is both a waste of fuel and hard on engines. So what? No one wants to drive in a freezing car. We could all save energy by keeping the house just above freezing and wearing heavy clothing. I'll bite the bullet and spring for the fuel and pump out the carbon to stay warm.

block heaters also are common in Western Canada, Alberta etc.  People in the far north, arctic etc often leave their vehicles running 24/7 as they may not start again when shut off, especially when it is -40 or below.

Try starting a diesel engine with gelled fuel. -40 on both common scales is equal and is about the limit for most trucking fuels . Jet A is good for -47. Modern ICE gasoline cars in good tune will still start at -40 without a block heater if they have a fully charged battery. But with warmup time I would say my fuel economy drops by 50% in city driving. Of course the big difference is still faster refueling times. Except for the rare times when it is so cold that you can't even pump diesel from the truck stop because the pumps are frozen. That has never happened to me personally but it has been known in Edmonton a few times.

And for that triviality a Mod gave you a thumbs up. This place is going to hell.

Nice. You managed to insult both Wendy and myself and only needed an eleven word sentence to do it. You seldom fail to impress me.

The world has enjoyed a "peace dividend" more or less since WW 2. Now it seems as if military adventurism and the might of the sword. Are tossing aside the lives and peace of civilians.

Yes, it almost seems like two things are happening. The lessons of WW 2 are being forgotten by a new generation and the balance of terror established by nuclear weapons is being eroded and tested.

I took it as a reference to the days when a overwhelming superiority in weaponry. Resulted in a clear superiority in how political disputes were dealt with.

Yes, that was the situation in the colonial era and that was how I took it as well. Political disputes over territory between peoples were dealt with by killing the opposition. The same as now if it can be gotten away with.

A good editor often recommends pitching at least half of your cherished work product in the bin and to give serious reconsideration to what remains.

Where can I hire a good editor for cheap? Should I submit my work to you for pre approval? The learning process is lifelong.

Sure, just let the Chinese develop it so that when the west jumps in, it will be too late.

Didn't know you were so pro-Xi, comrade.

Because as a society we have made the judgement that we need the tech now and that it is worth the investment despite the small and deadender thinking of the deniers. Who are losing bigly and getting kind of angry about it.

So you don't have any ideas and resoort to bluster instead,  Taking lessons from Slim?

What are you talking about? Your OP didn't have a real idea. It was nearly the definition of "bluster". It merely contained a nostalgic reference to the past power of your beloved England who's days of greatness have been over for close to 80 years. Which is why you are in Chicagoland and not London. If you have a real idea that does not involve reliving the days of sail and a Queen who died 120 years ago maybe you would begin to be relevant.

In January 2024, Volkswagen announced that test results of a prototype solid-state battery retained 95% of its capacity after driving 500,000 km.

I've been looking at articles about it. Sounds promising but all the companies talking about it are saying production in a few years. Which to me means that they haven't really worked out practical processes to make them yet.

"Estimates of the temperature of the Northern Hemisphere more broadly during the Roman Warm Period put average temperatures more around the average temperature of the period between 1960-1990 (e.g., Ljungqvist 2010), so significantly warmer than the periods before and after it, but still cooler than today and less consistently warm than the last few decades (e.g., Luterbacher et al, 2016)."

Then we have: "Not even going to break the top five" - Brenthutch, early 2023

The "Roman Warm Period" was a regional, not global event. It did not result in glaciers disappearing around the world and sea level rise. Citing it here is just another "Red Herring". And I'm sure that if BH is posting this nonsense it merely means that it is the currently circulating talking point on the denier web world circuit.
