  1. I have heard a few times now that this is the worst SCOTUS ever. But this is not really true. The Dredd Scott decision was far worse than anything this court has done so far. Here is part of it, written by the then Chief Justice

Chief Justice Taney’s court ruling was one of the most bigoted in history, reading that Black people are “regarded as beings of an inferior order, altogether unfit to associate with the white race ... and so far inferior, that they had no rights which the white man was bound to respect.”

The ruling basically stated that no Black person in any free or slave state could ever be considered a citizen. It basically made the civil war inevitable.

The problem with this is that even if Thomas leaves the court, since it is so close to an election, the republicans will block any attempt to seat a new judge until after the election because the people will not have a voice in who is elected to pick the next judge.

They do not control the Senate at this time and therefore cannot do that.

That's why he's so eager to win the presidency again.  He wasn't aware of Seal Team Six during his first presidency; "Seal Team Six" has three syllables and thus was not included in any presidential briefings.

You are treating the dotard unfairly. You must have forgotten that covfefe also has three syllables.

You'll note that the 2nd Amendment was the primary sticking point for passing the 14th.

Interestingly KY did not ratify the 14th until 1976. The confederate states were mostly forced to ratify until enough states had to declare it. This was done by the reconstruction act, martial law, the dissolution of existing state governments and the denying of federal representation until it was ratified. The main sticking point was clearly giving black people full citizenship and the right to vote. How did you come to the fantastical conclusion that the 2nd amendment was a main factor? Did you get this from FOX or Der Sturmer?

Are you suggesting that Canada, Australia,  UK, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Spain, France, and other nations with far lower rates of gun death than the USA are not free because they have more restrictive gun laws?  Or was that satire?

I'll leave you to work that out on your own. I still think you are a smart enough man to do so even though I'm a little surprised that you decided you should ask.

when the bullets started flying, they all shit their pants and ran like everyone else.

They were stopped and ended up arrested. Only one person was killed, it could have been worse. It started with just one shooter, luckily there were more weapons in the crowd to keep things from getting out of hand. Freedom is not free, it is a small price to pay.

Is that legal in the US?

In Europe you absolutely cannot do that for web sales (or any distance selling).

I've never seen an online seller that would process the charge before the item was ready to ship. Exceptions I suppose for custom made orders. Caveat emptor suckers.

A new $2.5M motor coach, and $1M/year for life if Thomas permanently leaves the court. And I think Oliver is serious, and would fund this himself.

But what kind of status does Ginni get from that arrangement?

A RR Griffon or Napier Sabre (3500HP) might actually fit.  We know a Merlin does.

Alright, for the Anglophiles we will use RR. They were better than the Allisons and more practical than the round engines for cars because they are liquid cooled.

Sadly, not before November 5, 2024.

From where I sit there is another small bit of good news. I don't have a vote in that election.

    Hehe...antiques roadshow.

Thanks. That's the first time I've been able to watch it here in my home and native land. And now I know that the only good news is that one day the Sun will run out of hydrogen.

The USA ranks first for firearm homicides among high-income countries with populations over 10 million, according to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. The rates for age-adjusted firearm homicide rates in the U.S. are 19 times more than in France, and 77 times more than in Germany.

Well worth it for the joy and the exciting feeling of owning and playing with powerful machines of death.

As much as I hate to admit it, Coooorrrreeeeecccceeeee is sort of right.
The 'rabid right wingers' on here have all run away.

They kept getting told to 'prove the bullshit you're spewing' and couldn't.

Absolutely. Of course the option of actually paying for desired content is always an option.

Not really much of an option unless you are willing to subscribe. And I can't justify subscribing to every publication that people link to. There is no a la carte option.

Been watching Facebook discussions about EVs lately.  A few observations:

One is that you can now play Boomer Bingo with all the reasons why "EVs will never work" - the same memes keep coming up over and over.

A cool development is that I've seen several anti-EVers post comments along the lines of "I have a hybrid which is perfectly fine - NO REASON for EV's!"  That, of course, is a change of tune from 20 years ago when the comments were "I have a gas car which is perfectly fine - NO REASON for hybrids!"

In another 20 years the antis will be saying "Look, I have an EV that's perfectly fine - NO REASON for hydrogen cars!"

Cars that don’t make noise are kinda boring. But then again a good ICE car is pretty quiet these days as well. I’m all for radial engines.

(and for all the right wingers who have already started typing an angry reply - yes, Biden is going through something similar.)

What a time to be alive. At least the dotard qualifies as a Boomer (just barely). Biden is too old and is from the previous generation. You would think the baby boom generation would be in charge by now.

I confess I don't understand why the Dems seem so passive in the face of the Great GOP Lie Machine.

That's easy. Angry frightened people get passionate. The left (actually the center in the USA) is not yet frightened. But the successful attack on reproductive rights is changing that somewhat. What are you doing about the great lie machine?

Isn't he still blocking Ukraine from using it???

No, and he never did except for an episode of blocking it out in an area near Crimea for a time.
