  1. Your Voodoo looks great. It is kind of hard to tell what the second color is (could be my comp.) is it white or light gray? I ordered my Voodoo June 2nd and she told me a couple of days ago that it was ready to take to the sky. But she is still waiting for my reserve to arrive ( I ordered a new R-Max 148) so I should have mine when they get back from vacation. Post some pics when you have your reserve packed in it am curious to see how big the rig will be when it is all packed. I also ordered a V3 for my Sabre1 150 and 148 R-Max. DOOR!!!!!!!!!
  2. I'd go. where are most of the controllers out there jumping?
  3. Does anybody know where I can find a coloring program or template for a voodoo
  4. I am a Air Traffic Controller in Louisiana and I love my job and the pay that comes with it. I consider a controller being like a doctor you don't get paid for what you do you get paid for what you know how to do. A normal day is 8 1/2 hours of boredom and 1/2 hour of controlled kaious (I work 9 hour days). When things are going like they should life is great then their is always that student pilot who seems like he is trying to hit every plane in the sky. Their is a lot of stress in the job but if you are confident in your decision making and in you skills then it is not that bad. To make it in this job you have to be able to multi task (you have to be able to talk to one Plane while listening to another plane and watching what another plane is doing) I went through the Air Force to get my training and got out when I got hired with the FAA. Their is college programs out their that you can go through to get the training you need to get a job. Where do you live (city &state) I will try to set up a tour so you can see first hand what we do. The down side is that I do work weekends when most of my friends are out jumping and I have to be at work talking to the jump plane. But I get my jumps in during the week and before work on weekends. Let me know if I can help
  5. I have a FF suit that I had ordered form him in the colors I wanted. I got it in less than 4 weeks. He also did a embroidery for me at no charge and it came out great. I put about 20-25 jumps on it and it is holding up great. It is a very good suit for the price and customer service is top notch.
  6. I got the D-3 One it was such a good deal and two I am 6'1 and 175# and it is hard finding used gear to fit me if I was say 5'7 to 5'9 I could buy used gear all day long. I am jumping a 170 now and that fits good and bought a Saber 150 (a deal I could not refuse) to jump when I am ready. I contacted the manufacture and this is what I got (very fast response) Although the D-3 was sized to comfortably accept a 190 sq ft main canopy, there's some flexibility in the sizes that the container will accept. I've had a pretty fair number of reports over the last eight years that riggers have packed canopies up to 220 sq ft into the D-3. The 150 sq ft canopy you mentioned will certainly go into thr D-3, and generally the canopies made from Zero-Porosity fabric will expand to fill whatever space they're packed in. Here's the limiting factor you need to be careful of: If you have shortened your closing loop until it can't be shortened any more and there's still not enough bulk in the container to keep the closing pin firmly in the loop, the pin could fall out at the most inopportune time (like when you're front-floating on the Super Otter at 13,000 ft...) You know how Murphy's Law is, right ??... Anyway, if the canopy won't fill the container enough to keep the closing pin safely in place, we offer a small cushion that's shaped something like a little seat cushion that can be hand-tacked into the container. It adds some bulk to the container and makes it look smoother, and it provides the bulk necessary to keep the closing pin in place. Your rigger can also advise you concerning the compatibility of your canopy and container; it would be a good idea to discuss it with him or her. I hope this information will be helpful; if you'd like to discuss anything further by phone, our number is: (352) 523-0052. That number rings at home as well as in the shop, so you can get me there pretty much 24-7. Best Regards, Mike Furry, President ALTICO
  7. I just bought a used Dolphin D3 and was wondering what is the smallest canopy it could safely hold? The web site just says 170R & 190M. Could it hold a Saber 150?
  8. I know Mirage is giving a 50% discount to returning veterans. I was wondering if anybody knows of other companies also giving Military discounts? Not just rigs but all skydiving equipment?
  9. I was just wondering how many people use them as everyday jump pants and how they hold up. I was thinking of buying some freefly pants but since I have a bunch of BDU's and you can tie the bottoms thought they would work the same. So any input would help. Thanks
  10. I am a pilot also and am on my way to my A. I just did jump 17 yesterday. i went through static line because that is what my DZ offers for training. i find as a pilot i had no problems flying the chute. if anything i probably was more cautious of it because i put my self in some pretty scary situations flying doing stupid shit. in my opinion you have an advantage in flying the chute to the ground than someone with no flying experience at all.
  11. So people know what kind of experience I have. i got my private pilot license in 2000 48 hours in a 152 192 hours in a 172 18 hours in a 182 (would get 50 more before flying jumpers) 31 hours in a BE-36 (bonanza) for a total of 289 hours i probably have another 300 hrs in ultra-lights but i don't count that as flight experience. I am a FAA Air Traffic Controller (tower and Radar) I probably know more about instrument approaches the most pilots. I helped draw up 3 of them when I was deployed to Iraq with the Guard. I would be flying out of a small strip that does not have any instrument approaches. secondly the plane is VFR only anyways. and in the worst case scenario the field was to go IFR and I Could not find the field I would just call my buddies I work With for weather info and vectors to another airport that is still VFR (there is 7 airports and 11 grass strips to chose from). ST Thanx for everybodys input. If i do start flying at the DZO and you would rather fly with the owner no hard feelings
  12. So i can thanx EDYDO I guess my first post was not real clear when I mean limited commercial I mean a commercial rating with out being IFR certified. and to answer why i don't fly for fun is. My brother died Feb/03 in a cessna crash just flying for fun on his B-day. So now when i fly it is just not as fun as it use to be. As far as some jumpers feeling safe with me flying i am not quite sure but i know the owner/pilot wants to have the opportunity to jump every now and then and he is the only pilot. And as far as getting my instrument rating it is not worth the 2000-3000 dollars just to get to jump for free (when i am not flying). ST
  13. I have my private pilots license and i was wondering if i got a limited commercial license if i could fly jumpers? I was told by my DZ owner that if i wanted to fly jumpers for him he would exchange each load for a free jump. I don't have any interest in flying for fun anymore so if i could just get my limited commercial and take up jumpers it would be worth the money to get my limited rating, but not worth the time or money for me to get a commercial license. Any info would be great especially if you are a jump pilot. ST
  14. The one wearing the gear (the right side of the pic) corey
  15. No not that I know of. If I did they never said anything about the Pink Mafia. Corey
  16. I am 26 years old and the first time I jumped was Dec/96 I was 18. It was a Christmas gift from my brother who was a certified skydive (A License Holder) I think. I just got finished with boot camp with the Air Force. I was in ATC School in Keesler AFB, MS and went home for the holidays. When I got home from the drive he and one of his friends were waiting for me in his truck (did not even get a chance to see mom yet). He told me to go with them he had a surprise for me. They drove me to Jeanerette, LA where I saw the sign that said Skydive something. My heart started racing at that point. Did my first jump and loved it what a gift from my brother (well I paid) he didn’t have the money he just wanted me to do it. Well to keep it kind of short I found out when I was in the out skits of Iraq for the war he was killed in a plane crash feb/03 (he was a pilot commercial rating) in a Cessna he rented to go for a ride on his B-day. I was also a pilot (private rating) but lost all interest in going flying for fun. Last year on my brothers B-day my mom wanted to do a tandem in honor of my brother (she new how much he loved it). So I took her to Thibodaux, LA where there is a new drop zone (New Orleans Skydiving Center) so she could make a jump. I even got in touch with the same guy that trained my brother to jump with her (how memorable). So now I am out of the military and am working in Lafayette, LA a 20 min drive from Jeanerette I decided to get certified. I have made 4 jumps in the last 2 weeks and am planning to make 4 more this sat. My brother has given me so much in my life He told me what job to do in the service (the same job I hold as a civilian ATC) which I love. He introduced me to my wife. And he introduced me in to flying (but I was the first to fly planes). And now when I climb out on the strut of the 182 and let go I can feel him smiling. It is the one thing since he died that I can do to feel close to him (he fly's with me). And that is my story sorry it took so long but here are some pics of me and him on my first jump the tattoo I got on my left arm in memory of RJ (my Bro.)And me last week after a PRCP. Hope I did not bore anyone thanks for reading.......Corey
  17. Sounds good, I hope to have my A by the middle of OCT. at the latest. My wife's family live in AL Fort Rucker area so we go there often. It is definitly planable. Later ST
