  1. The other problem with these boards....and not that its anyone's fault...people talk an awful lot and have to assume a lot of info....can make for some general confusion....But thanks for the input....if you wish to chat for real...send me a private message and I'll give you my cell... Thanks Ben
  2. So after 20 or so jumps if I was going to bust out and buy a decent chute...What should I start with? I am 6ft tall and weigh 175lbs...at this point I am more into flying than falling...but I am sure that will change....If you know of any web pages where I can view some of these rigs that would be great...I have seen the Lotus so far not many more... Thanks Ben
  3. Well I am sure that at this point you don't know me. But, alas I have been chatting with Lyle...He knows me as the Irishman, if you ask him about that he will know who you mean at least...I really want to go to the arizona blast...sounds like great fun...I am an Engineer and I am trying to fix my work schedule to allow for the time. Real real busy these days....Its funny how life goes...you either have time or money...but rarely both....Such is the way things are. Do you live in the city? Yell if you ever want to chat over a coffee or anything...I can always make time for that at least....But let me ask ya...As a rookie... am I going to be right out of my element, and feel quite out of place? you think? Thanks Ben
  4. Thanks for all your input folks....Yeah..I may just run to Arizona.....This is an itch that will have to be scratched soon....So what else do you guys do all winter?? Besides watch videos and wait...and wait...and wait....hehe... Thanks again... Ben
  5. Well Eden North outside of Edmonton offers first jump IAD and then AFF after that. I spoke with the owner today. I may just go down to Arizona for a week or so and get jumping. I may not be able to wait till spring. So its 2500k for everything. Flight rentals etc....The only other option is the Edmonton Skydiving club and my calls to them have been terrible. They only offer tandem in the winter, no IAD and AFF training....and they are not open to anything else...at least have not been for me....So AFF PFF? Whichever...I think it all means the same. I am going ahead with looking into a good shoot for spring. My starting price is around 5k....and I have crunched all the numbers and spoke to a few pro's and believe I will end up with a 210 square foot chute, and then all the gear...So thats my story. Thus far.... Ben
  6. Heehee...Yeah...I bet your right...!! Its like flying a glider....you only get one shot at it....So I hear... Ben
  7. Any other Canadians here... I am looking for some feedback on the jump training process for AFF in Canada...Any comments, advice or links you can show me would be very helpful... Thanks. Ben
  8. Well thanks everyone...that is sound advice. It seems everyone goes to Arizona for the winter. Perhaps I may jump in on this. I talked to the folks at Eden North. It is very doable. I have about 10k tucked away for this so I am not sure if I want to spend a bunch of money in arizona or wait for spring here. Either way, I have been watching a number of the online videos that are on the net. Most are quite exciting. I think that the flying of the canopy will have many similarities. Of course without that engine doing things like flying into wind will be a lot harder. (I can't paddle worth a darn)...So without that motor...the world may be a different place...and I am getting used to that idea in my mind. However I have seen the ground a thousand times from the air and I have played endlessly with varying winds, so I hope these all help. I am not sure if I can sit and wait till april..... Ben
  9. Hi everyone... I am quite new. I am a VFR Pilot with a night rating. I am going to start jumping in the next few weeks. As a person who has several hundred hours of flying time logged already, I am hoping that it will be just a short hop to the chute....! Any preliminary comments...help...advice...you name it I'll take it. I want to do my aff I think its called as quick as I can. After some preliminary study I am hoping this goes as well as flying. I got my lic in the minimum time requirements with high marks because I am big on studying. So I am beginning my quest by research. Any help at all.....I'll take it....Thanks. Ben
