  1. The point and brilliance of it being - sometimes you have to take a few running steps to make a giant leap.
  2. In a way. The gay community was part of the military for a long time. I met my first outwardly "flamboyantly gay" guy in 1974 at Ft. Hood. As he sashayed passed me up the barracks stairs; I must have had some fucked up look on my face, cause another guy said, "We leave him alone. He's the best S-1 we've had." Meaning, we would get paid on time and accurately and our paperwork would be done correctly. Also meaning, judge the person by their work ethic, not the lifestyle. Fast forward twenty years and I had retired. Not long after, Clinton comes out with "Don't ask, Don't tell." Personally, I thought this was brilliant. You joined to do a job. Shut the fuck up about your personal life. And, unfortunately, when Colonels, Generals and budgets are part of the equation; shit rolls down hill. For example, Inspections. It's been a long standing sad joke - General says he's going to do a Class A inspection (Dress Uniforms) the troops at 0800 HRS. (Usually some congressman or dignitary is coming and the troops need to look good); Colonel says, We're going to have an pre-inspection for the General at 0700 HRS. Unit Commander says we're going to have a pre-inspection for the Colonel at 0600 HRS. Unit First Sergeant says we're going to have a pre-inspection for the Unit Commander at 0500 HRS. It starts raining at 0730 HRS; General's staff calls to cancel the inspection. SAME SCENARIO USING DEI Politician runs on a declared policy of - "Leave them the fuck alone" and gets elected. The General Staff develops a 10 minute policy to support the declaration. The General wanting another star makes it an hour class. Colonel wanting to make General says, "Let's make it two hours." Unit Commander wanting to make Colonel says, "Let's make it three hours." Unit First Sergeant wanting to make Sergeant Major says, "Let's make it four hours." The soldiers who joined say, "I just want to do my job and get laid." Don't ask; Don't tell. Brilliant. Ten years or so go by and guess what - nobody really gives a shit that you're gay. 3. It's a fucking mermaid for God's sake. Fictional. Story-telling shit. Black mermaids have been around for hundreds of years. Fuck me. With everything that's going on in the world - this is some people's biggest issue? Dr. Cueto, Associate Professor, Teaching, Learning & Sociocultural Studies at Arizona State, about her research on Black mermaid folklore and mythology. “I don’t even understand the controversy. That blows my mind. We have always had Black mermaids, and they go back in African mythology since before the time of slavery, she said. “Mami Wata was the deity who traveled with the slaves along their path through the Middle Passage.” Do we not remember the book, "Sukey & the Mermaid?" Spoiler alert: They were both black. People need to go back to work.
  4. Nothing. Just your doctor does it as part of the HRAM. Kinda one stop shopping for the TI.
  5. There are several types of "High Risk Activity Medical Clearance Forms." My thoughts are the only thing really needed is a physical, EKG, and Urinalysis. Then your Doctor sends a letter of yes or no without having to disclose anything. Having not been a TI for awhile now; wonder if the tandem manufacturers would need to be on a medical clearance form committee of some type to sign off. 6. They only need 9 R's to convert. It won't happen if they don't try. Nope. I proposed that all weapons be subject to the NFA. Now tell everyone more about it and the reasons. Sometimes you wear me out, Joe. You really don't offer any solutions, but you're very critical of what everyone else puts up.
  7. Thanks, Jerry. Far More: true statement.
  8. There are more moderates calling for well-balanced firearm responsibility than there are survivalist Billy Joe Bobs.
  9. Please give her my regards and thanks for her assistance during a difficult time.
  10. With respect, that's only one frame of reference. I have just as much time in Disaster Response, helping the citizens of this country during some of the worst disasters in our history receiving accolade's from community leaders to a single African-American barber just outside New Orleans during Katrina. I feel comfortable with having looked "in the belly of the beast" numerous times and seen the best and the worst of people. In my opinion, CK is a piece of shit. He took an absolutely horrible summer and used it for his own personal gain. He wasn't trying to do something noble. He was trying to focus the limelight on him in the hopes to get his lousy game play and end of contract propped up. He used George Floyd's death for his own gain. Comparisons of CK to Rosa Parks and throwing a confederate flag argument at me - silliness. We've had this conversation before. You didn't sway me and I didn't sway you. Now, it's just become a circular argument. So, that's where we're at. Moving on.
  11. Damn. Jim Brown passed [last] Thursday night.
  12. I feel strongly about what the flag represents. It was not the time or the place. That moment at the beginning of each football game (or any other event) is a moment to pay your respect for those fallen and to thank this nation. We can argue, protest, throw eggs and beat our drums at any other time. But, in that one moment we should all as one nation rise up to give our thanks and respect to the flag that we can argue, protest and beat our drums. We can put our disagreements on hold for two minutes. Join me at the National Cemetery this Memorial Day.
  13. Yes. We respectfully disagree about the CK situation. I'm not sure how my opinion on this made a quantum leap to the military being in charge of the country. Would not ever entertain the notion.
  14. Exactly. "And, it was in this moment he knew he fucked up."
  15. While he did not break the law; he broke a very strong social rule. The flag and anthem may represent different things to different people, but many associate them with the military, not police. He missed his target by several miles. As for Ms. Rosa and others who break the law for social change; that is a much higher standard of commitment to a cause. In the military; the standard of hero is - one who puts their butt on the line. Ms. Rosa did just that.
  16. One of my "heroes" is Jim Brown; athlete and social change activist. Mr. Brown opposed CK's actions also. What CK could have done with his position was held a press conference to denounce what happened. He could have started some type of community | inner-city interaction program with the police departments. That would have sustained a much longer legacy not unlike Jim Brown's Amer-I-Can organization which started in 1988 and still exists today. Let's not forget that CK sat first for the National Anthem. The kneeling didn't start until Boyer tried salvaging the situation. And, just for the record; if I were in Nate's shoes, I would probably and have tried to help a teammate from imploding also.
  17. The most important phrase of that whole thing is, " . . . discussed our situation, our different opinions and feelings about all this." See, Nate didn't approve of what Colin was doing either. It was Colin's intention to put himself in the limelight as a social justice warrior. Nate being a team member knew that Colin was going to lose everything if he continued. Being the team player, Nate offered Colin a different path to hopefully keep him on the team. Colin a hero. No. The heroes are those who put their lives on the line every day, military, ER Doctors and nurses (think pandemic), Fire fighters, Police, the man who almost gets run over trying to save a kitten from a car, etc. Those are heroes. Not some football player pandering for likes on the internet.
  18. I'm half expecting Elon with Joe Rogan as VP to enter the race. Fucking fiasco from both sides.
  19. Same in my state. Lotsa folks still hunt for meat and garden for vegetables.
  20. I was trying to do a comparison between the pellet gun and the actual 22 lr and obviously missed the mark.
  21. OK. Now, I'm tracking. Rule #1 - You kill it. You eat it.
  22. AWESOME!!! I'll let my asshole friends know you're OK with it.
  23. See. You're catching on. The goal isn't to wound them; it's to kill them. Ya know. To Eat. Not everything comes in saran wrapped packages at your grocery store. And, there's still a lot of folks that need to hunt to feed their families. What do have against poor country folk?
  24. I just checked the Google Doodle page and sick fuck with asshole friends isn't until June.
