    ski-base

Hey retard, Don't you know the rules here? Its APOOPA not AAPUPA and it stands for Americans Parachuting Off Objects with Parachutes and we jump in the day time for the media. Actually this isn't a joke. "The World's Greatest Base Jumper" Miles D is really going to host a ski base jumping competition at Lovers some time this winter. Maybe Feburary. There will be several different catagories to compete in including: Speed - through the gates before the cliff then clock stops when you ski through landing area with parachute or not. Accuracy of course Tricks If we get the entire world's population of ski base jumpers to show up we might get a whopping 10 people there! Which is the perfect amount for the first one. If any expert skiers with some base experience want to show up and do their first ski base jump we would be glad to laugh...er.....help you out on your first one too. More details to come when the event gets more organized, or less organized. Shane McConkey "The Greatest Base Jumper In The World"
  2. I don't want to rehash the whole 'putting the death in deathcamp' debate or sling blame here. But you are doing exactly that by calling it a "Death" camp. Which it was not. A Death Camp is when you throw a totally unexperienced parachuter off a fixed object. A Base Camp or course is when the person has plenty of skydiving experience. This was more like Retardation Camp. Kind of inbetween since the jumper is a skydiver. The jumper healed up from his bruises in a couple weeks. You all can view this brilliant example of what not to do in Jimmy's new movie "Keen and Able". As potentially devastating as this accident could have been and with more and more people doing unpacked jumps nowadays and since the number of unpacked accidents lately is growing and because I was very involved with the development of these unpacked jumps i will give an explanation of what happened. Hopefully this will prevent it from happening again. It was a total malfunction with a tard. A tard was thrown for another person off of a 135 foot bridge over lake water. When you throw a tard or cwad for someone else generally you would always stand about 10ish feet away from them. This allows for all the lines not to have to be s folded in a hand. It basically eliminates a bit more of the deployment process and makes things safer. This was not done on this jump and this is entirely the reason for the mal. The jumper wanted to throw his own tard on the next jump after so to buid up to that he was allowed to hold his own s folded lines while the tard was thrown for him. This put the two people too close together. When he jumped and the tard was thrown the action of his jumping away from the bridge yanked the tard out of the throwers hand before it could complete the full inversion of the canopy. This caused all the lines to wrap over the top (would actually be the bottom) of the whole upside down canopy before it had any chance at all of spreading out. Kind of like a net. He towed a brick of canopy all the way to his back. Had it been done exactly the same but a cwad was thrown instead then it would have opened fine since cwads are already inverted before you jump and the lines wouln't have had a chance wrap over any canopy. If anyone is going to throw someone else a tard instead of a cwad then it is important to walk several feet away from the jumper so that the lines are almost tight. This will force the lines to pull on the canopy from the bottom. You could also just give them a cwad but there are other dangers associated with cwads too. Basically as every base manufacturer says, we are all test jumpers. Don't forget that!
  3. Not sure but I think so. You should ask him. Also, I believe Miles and Nikki want to make this an annual event. Not necessarily a world record attempt but some sort of "Parachutes For Kids" fund raiser. Maybe some sort of competition next year. BTW, I think Miles' wife Nikki was responsible for most of the organization of this event which got the living shit organized out of it. We should be congradulating her too.
  4. Nice to see your change of heart Tree. Thank you. Miles has been very misjudged by many in this community in the past. Damage that may never be undone. Frankly I don't think he cares. Anyway, Here's my quick recap: Everyone here seems to be making comments like "unbelievable" and "amazing". Let me tell you, you have no idea! When the storm came in at 8:30pm and shut us down Miles was still fully charging. At the time we thought it may blow through and he could keep going. He was running around and organizing and carrying stuff to cars and even went down to the boat launch to take the boat out of the river. I honestly think if the weather didn't stop him he would have got 70 jumps. He sped up the pace from the afternoon into the eveing big time and was feeling really good and charging hard at 8:30. His total vertical feet climbed for 57 jumps was 27,702 and it was almost easy for him. None of us can believe how long he was able to sustain such a fast pace. It really was amazing. I don't know the official total for $ raised but I think is was somewhere around $20,000. There were hundreds of people crowding around during the ENTIRE event. There were cops and security guards on duty and it was a really cool scene. I haven't heard any complaints yet. Oh wait! His 50th jump (also his 1,000th base jump. Yes he planned it that way.) was a 7 way all off the top rail in front of stoked cops and media. We packed at least 2 pounds of flour into his parachute. It made a big cloud but didn't coat him. Must have done it wrong. Can anyone suggest how this might be done so it rains down on the jumper? Miles has been running around all day today (the day after) cleaning up and carrying heavy stuff. He says hes only a little sore in the hamstrings. WTF!!!!!!!!?????????????? Shane
  5. Really productive post Tree. This project if for a good cause. The only thing discusting are your attempts to tear it down. This project is happening because of the support Red Bull is giving. I have been out of the country and do not know if Red Bull has given an actual pledge other than making the project possible. As I said before I am the only one close to this project who ever frequents this forum. Miles never expected any support from this place anyway because of people like you who tear him down all the time. At least $10,000 has been raised as far as I know. All from people in the Twin Falls area calling into all the radio stations. This is enough to treat several children who couldn't normally afford it. Why don't you spend your time on the phone pledging some $ instead of being an ass.
  6. Here it is again since it was hidden deep in that other thread. If anyone would like to donate this is a great cause. Miles' record thingy is raising money for disabled children. Please call now! Running out of time! Call the Magic Valley Regional Medical Center Foundation at (208) 737-2482. Also during the event (Midnight to Midnight, the entire 16th) you can call (208) 404-1039. I believe at either # you can pledge and pay. They will know more about it than me.
  7. This should have been posted earlier but as I am probably the only one involved with the event who ever checks out this forum and I have been in the southern hemisphere for the last week now I guess is better than never. Call the Magic Valley Regional Medical Center Foundation at (208) 737-2482. Also during the event (Midnight to Midnight, the entire 16th) you can call (208) 404-1039. I believe at either # you can pledge and pay. They will know more about it than me.
  8. Death Camp 2005 will be taking place during Miles' record thingy in front of all the media he has there mid day, from the top rail, with water skis on. Probably drunk.
  9. Oh Tree, you're such a negative Nancy. Didn't Red Bull sponsor Bridge Day? Oh yea! Yes as a matter of fact they did! Has Mountain Dew ever done anything FOR the base community? What's wrong with using a sport to market itself? That's what all these sponsors are doing? Duh! What about any company who uses athletes to promote their products? What they do is support the projects of their athletes just like Red Bull does. Sometimes a company will also get involved and put on an event for a particular sport which would be considered FOR the community of that sport and not just for the company's athletes. Just like Red Bull does. I doubt you will ever see any more base "community" support from Red Bull other than the projects they line up for their athletes considering all the crying base jumpers do about them. When has it ever been the responsibility of a company when using any sport to promote their products to do something for the "community" of that sport? Answer: When it benefits the company enough they usually turn around and reward the people in that sport who helped them. Is this the community or is it their athletes? In Red Bull's case it is their athletes and if you disagree I'm sure Red Bull won't give a shit simply because of all the mud base jumpers have slung at them. By the way, Miles' wife is an occupational therapist. (I'll explain that for you Tree. She does physical therapy for disabled children.) Miles and his wife are very good people who care about others more so than 99% of our population. Miles is a professional base jumper. This is what he does for a living. Is this a self promotion? Of course it is. What's wrong with that? He's an athlete. That's what they do. Its also a charity event for disabled children. What's wrong with using these two concepts together to do something really cool and fun as all hell. Without both ideas its not nearly as cool of an idea. OK Finished.
  10. Even though many of you on this forum in the past have grossly misjudged Miles' personality and ethics, Tree, it is nice to see you all being positive toward him for once. When you get to know Miles D you will see how perfectly fitting it is that he shares the paper with someone like the Dalai Lama. His positivety, enthusiam and sense of humor are infectious. Someone we could all learn from. I'm still gonna pack him a line over just for fun though.
  11. With that waterski/surfboard/rail guy(s) you have an attention seeking juvenile doing everything wrong just to prove he can do it. Tree, nice attempt at a jab there. B+ However, if you really think that is the motivation of our crew you're even more confused than I thought. We all could have loads more fun here but... The point here is this only: Waterski guy is a very good person and a respectful jumper. He got seriously reemed on this forum for stuff you people got confused about and then blew out of proportion. I have nothing but respect for Russel and his jumping. I started shit here to try to show you guys how the two jumps are very similar. If you guys are gonna reem one guy why not the other? Russel is probably a good guy too so why not threaten him and tear him down? When the time comes that you people feel the need to tear someone apart I suggest you hold your fire until you know more about the facts and the people involved.
  12. Either option is better than what we're doing here!
  13. Heh heh! That's a good one Tom! Nice move. Attention?! I'm learning from you.
  14. You can know just fine what is happening down river when you have a look out on the other side of the bridge. Surf board - Not securely attached, but the issue of object burning came up way before he did that one. You're missing the point Tom. When people get an idea in their mind that someone is bad and doing wrong it doesn't matter what the truth is. They will continue to hate and feed each other false beliefs.
  15. 1. The water ski jumper used his eyes to make sure the river was clear too, in both directions. Pretty easy. Not that it matters since..... 2. His skis were securely attached to his feet and never came off. Thereby not needing a parachute recovery system. No difference. I'm really surprised the cops were not called in for this one. Such disrespect! You seem to be forgetting that you guys love to hate. Now start hating!
  16. WHAT!!!!! I can't belive this! This is is a discrace! Such blatent object burning! What an arrogent bastard doing this in front of everyone. What disrespect. You people know the "rules"! No throwing things off the bridge. Remember the water skis issue! Didn't anyone call the cops on him? Ya know, like last time. There is no difference between throwing water skis and throwing a wheelchair off the bridge except that the wheelchair wasn't connected to him and therefore could have landed on someone's head, parachute or not, and killed them! TAR AND FEATHERING! TAR AND FEATHERING! edit for thread title ~TA
  17. Oh well now I'm sure "3 fold" was a slight exaggeration on Mr. Rubberballs' part. Whatever, I'll answer for him. You watch his video and then GET TOTALLY FRIGGEN STOKED TO GO OUT THERE AND TRY SOMETHING TOTALLY STUPID AND HILARIOUS! AND BY CAUSING US ENDLESS LAUGHTER AT HOW PISSY SOME OF YOU GET ABOUT IT. Now that's progression! Duh. Watch his videos. You'll see.
  18. Well Hello Crybabies! Jimmy, sorry I missed that big ol shin dig y'all had about the 16 year old. You really got everyone's panties in a bunch didn't ya! Nice work! A+ By the way people, it wasn't a Mr. Bill in that teaser. A Mr. Bill is when both people are wearing parachutes. This type of jumping is called "Freebasing" as in free solo climbing. Get it right! And no, he wasn't wearing any hidden back up. What an IDIOT!
  19. And you guys really truly believe that these forums are ever productive? HELLLLLOOOO!
  20. More flame war removed. ~TA
  21. NO! NO! NO! You're all are missing the point entirely! Its not Red Bull and Miles and proper training ethic to blame at all! There I got the last word! Now don't reply anyone so it stays that way or else bothering to post on these forums will be pointless. edit to remove personal attacks and inflammatory comments ~TA
  22. Glad to see all you crybabies still talking about us! I guess Miles D really is WORLD FAMOUS! I did my very best to kill that bastard at Bridge Day but he's a talanted tree climber. I'll get him next time I swear. Shane McConkey "The World's Greatest Base Jumper"

Does anyone have any sort of contact or reports currently from Railey Beach? My wife and I were married on the beach out in front of the Sand and Sea back in May. The folks at the Sand and Sea are very wonderful, kind people. I imagine it is completely wrecked as well. We are worried for the lives of the nice people who made our wedding so great. Can't find any info anywhere. Shane
  24. Hey Jimmy, I couldn't help but notice. Exactly how many standard exit, normal base jump shots did you put in Radix? Lemme see if I got this right: 1. Cliff Ryder, construction hat plaid. Cliff Ryder off the shipping crane, wait no he cut away, doesn't count. power thingy..., nope that was a 2 way. 2. that totem pole type thingy in M.V. 3. Hater's Huck POV 4. 162 ft T.F. boat launch. Does it count if its only 162ft? Hmmm....yes. 5. smoke pants guy. Does that count? 6. Karina 7. Miles up in Baffin 8. other Miles up in Baffin 9. Someone flailing off Haters Huck...Does that count? If 5 and 9 don't count and I counted right then there's only 7. SEVEN standard exit normal base jumps in the whole movie! That's pretty dam cool. Way to make the most creative base flick I've ever seen! Oh wait, thats right....I only think that because I'm in it. Forget it.
  25. A bit disappointed in your efforts people but I'll let it slide this time since we're so far gone with this thread at this point. Here are your grades anyway: faber - Excellent use of the quotes and you put the most thought into your response. I almost felt some anger but not quiet. - B Skinflicka - You completely fell for the "I invented the McConkey" set up totally blowing any chance you might have had at comedy or a come back. - F hucklberry - Lovin' the milk comments for all these crybabies! - A badenhop - Seeing me in person yesterday impaired your ability to write a decent whining here on Dork Zone. - I (Incomplete, do over) Tree jumps - Excellent redirecting of your vagina. The "don't respect anything.....Barbie Dolls" stuff seemed heart felt. Fascinating comments to Jimmy. Are you guys buddies now? - A-
