APOOPA (Americans Parachuting Off Objects with Parachutes) There has been a lot of you asking when the event will be. I now have an answer. I finally got out to do the first ski base of the season out here with a couple FNGs. They both got passing grades. After checking out the conditions here I can't say that it would be a very good idea to have an event with a bunch of people and a bunch of first time ski base jumpers. Its a severe low tide situation. The boulder field is not even close to covered up and we had to land in the alternate landing area. Skis and snowboards tend to give one a much greater chance of line twists if you deploy unstable. Normally we laugh ourselves silly watching people panic spinning under line twits all the way down to the powder below. If that happens now you would impact boulders. No organized event will be considered until that boulder field is covered up. If any experienced skiers or snowboarders who can also base jump would like to come on out anyway, we would be more than happy to take you for a ride if we are around. Shane

It is a simple fact that when going that big into snow or into an airbag (as stunt men do) the safest way to land is square onto your back. This is how Jamie usually lands. Not sure if the wind blew him a bit more onto his head this time or not, haven't seen the footage. Even so a mild head landing on massive airs into snow have always deposited the person onto their back nicely. Any time people claim something like "Its lame because he didn't even land on his feet!" is totally retarded. When going that big this is the correct way to land.

If you follow skiing at all over the last few years you would know this guy. Jamie has been the master of massive air time for a while now. We all knew this big of an air was coming from him. Rubbs was going to ski base follow cam him off the cliff but apparently the wind wasn't right. Jamie may very vell be a huge bible thumper but whatever, he has also been working his way up to this size jump doing many 150+ foot jumps. He knew he could do it and knew the snow conditions were right. There is tons of controversy in the ski world over what he does. Most people say that it is not skiing its just meat chucking and should not be respected. "My grandmother could have stepped off that cliff and maybe lived. That's not skiing." I say if its something that you're into and you see the possibilities and think you can nail it then go for it. Who cares if it should qualify as part of a legitamate sport or not. It may not be skiing but it sure is a huge thing to accomplish. Long posts suck, sorry.

Yup that's right. Its official, Miles and his wife Nikki were nominated along with around 7 others for the city of Twin Falls person of the year and they won. Not sure of the details but it was for bringing international and main stream media attention to the city through base jumping as well as hostiing a very successful charity event for disabled children. Where was Tom Aiello? Oh yea, he wasn't even nominated. Miles jumps from the top rail almost every time by the way, which the city obviously smiles upon. Yea, yea, yea......I'm pumping up Miles again. Whatever, the Twin Falls Person of the Year is a base jumper!

Oops, actually he now has 50. Here's his last email: I've got fifty as of the 17th. That is 2.9 jumps/day. We (Mark Ridley and I) jumped in the rain and wind from the dark side into the boulder field in the tall grass just for a goof twice this evening. Had to walk out the lower trail cause of the slush and dangerous climbing I encountered this morning worsened as the day progressed. What a rad day. FITY

Yea of course, with pretty much everything. However, when was the last time you made a base jump that wasn't quality? Some may be better than others but every friggen base jump is pretty dam quality. Unless you blew it and hurt yourself. I say since all base jumps are quality as all hell then the more the better.

Not yet. We still need more snow. This year has the biggest difference in snow levels between 8000 and 6000 feet that we've ever seen. 8000 is great mid winter conditions and 6000 is terrible. The cliff is at around 6000. Storm coming tonight. We'll see. I'll post when it is good to go.

As of the end of today Miles is at 31 jumps so far this year and I don't think he even knows about this thread.

I agree with kramer. However there are so many people who don't care about numbers and don't bother to get a base number nowadays. Having base # something like 1300 pretty much that you are more like the 2000th or more person to have jumped all 4 objects. Base #s simply don't hold that much meaning to people anymore.
