  1. I'm just looking to get the riser covers and main closing tab replaced. The reserve flap already tucks in on this rig. It will be interesting to see what they're response is.
  2. Does anyone know if you can get the new mods on the Odyssey put on an older Javelin at Sunpath? Ex: Larger tuck tabs on risers and main closing flap... A friend of mine has an older Jav and the tuck tabs are getting worn and not performing up to standard anymore. It would be nice to replace them with the Odyssey tabs instead of the older tabs that came with the container. Thanks..
  3. He probably had some twists in there as well. I'll have to ask him how often he checks the steering lines. A good reminder to do that every ten jumps or so, depending on your landings.
  4. Yesterday a friend of mine had his first cutaway. He's a videographer with around 1,050 jumps. He opened up and his Jedei 105 and it began to surge to the right. In the video you can see tension knots in the right steering lines. He realeased both toggles but it maded the knots even tighter. There's a small chance he could have landed it but I think he made the right decision and cut it. The spin was so hard, in the video right before he cutaway, you could see the left riser go in front of the camera and then to the right and disappear. He told me later on the ground that when he packed it, he didn't flake the lines. He's also been a packer for a long time and he thought everything would be fine. So he just rolled it up and went with it. There's the problem. Complacency! So he learned his lesson and hopefully a lot of other people did as well. He's thankful now that he practices emergency procedures on every jump. Major beer!
  5. Could Skymonkey, or anyone else explain how the two stage opening works on the Cobalt? I guess they claim you can deploy at higher speeds but why would you want to pull at any other position when your entire rig is designed for a belly to earth deployment. I just don't see a need for an intentional high speed deployment. I can see softer openings, but higher speeds doesn't sound right.
  6. I know exactly what you mean. You look up at the sky and clouds and you just laugh. You can't help it. You're so happy to be alive and to be involved in such an exciting sport. I wouldn't trade it in for the world..
  7. It must have been "DZ policy" for this jumper to ride down.
  8. I don't agree with the Gear Rental charge either. I'll have to ask them their reason behind it. It's kind of sad the things that happen when money is involved. Does this sort of thing happen at other DZ's?
  9. Yesterday we had a student who was just off AFF doing a solo. She was wearing student gear and she did not have her "A" License yet. She boarded the plane as normal and around 9 thousand feet everyone was doing gear and pin checks again. One of the instructors on another AFF jump did a gear check and saw that her Cypres off. So she had to ride the plane down, pay for a jump ticket and the rental gear. But besides money, it was pretty embarassing. It was a definite reminder to all of us to constantly check each other's gear. Be proactive and ask for gear checks.
  10. Just wondering how one becomes a dropzone.com moderator? Thanks!
  11. When you're in a sit, push slowly down with your heels. If you push them too fast you're likely to roll to one side or the other. Put your heels together and straighten your legs all the way. It's quite a feeling, much faster than a sit.
  12. Sometimes I hate this sport... Blue Skies to Roger and my condolences to Rook and Missy..
  13. Everything is at Skydive New England until I head south in late december..

  15. I've never even thought about using a pullout. I'm not experienced enough for it. I'm confident with the throwout method so I'm staying with that. It must be a good method to use because very few people use throwout anymore.
  16. Maybe I'm mistaken and all the manufacturers are doing it. I've seen racers, reflexes, and talons and I don't think they have all the mods. Most rigs don't have the integrated riser covers into the reserve flap etc...or the riser covers are very small and easily opened. Maybe the manufacturers have to do something to make themselves different. Otherwise, we'll all be jumping the same rig for an expensive price..
  17. I was wondering why all new rigs aren't made with the "freefly" modifacations? It seems like everyone would benefit from a safer rig. I can understand why the older rigs didn't have these modifacations because most people were flying RW. But now, even if you just belly fly, why not get a rig with all the new mods? And why don't manufacturers go ahead and make these safer modifacations? Money?
  18. Does anyone know why every "new" rig on the market wouldn't be made freefly friendly? It seems like all the freefly mods are safer for bellyflyers as well. I'm my opinion, how could a container manufacturer not make a rig that was freefly friendly? It just seems like everyone would benefit from a more secure rig.
  19. Sabre2 has better openings, more repsonsive, and a stronger flare. I've jumped both and the Sabre2 is a great improvement.
  20. Sliding in on your butt wouldn't be too fun.. Especially for the guys Also, remember to remove your nipple rings... The chest strap could do a number on opening..
  21. I bring my rig on the plane with me. Most of the time they know exactly what it is. Thanks to the USPA!
  22. If I could only be in Florida this weekend..
  23. No worried about pulling both handles. The RSL debate will go on forever. I personally choose not to jump with one. I just meant I'm not as confident pulling the reserve pillow than I am with the D-ring. Mostly because I never pratice it with the pillow.
  24. I prefer the D-Ring since I'm a newbie and I jump without an RSL. I feel more confident hooking my thumb and pulling. In a high stress situation, I don't want to be peeling anything. More experienced jumpers might prefer the pillow because they're doing more advanced movements like freeflying. But that also means you don't have to use a pillow reserve handle to freefly. The pillow handle looks good, but you should practice emergency procedures more than normal.
