  1. Holy shit! I can't believe he'd say something so shitty!! Man, I would so go off on my boss if he said that to me! If you have an ok relationship with him I would say something about how that's really wrong to use that against you like that. (If that would even help at all) Just try to forget about it! And cuss him out with the door closed if that helps. "At 13,000 feet nothing else matters." PFRX!!!!! Team Funnel #174, Sunshine kisspass #109 My Jump Site
  2. Congrats! Good luck with that 2nd jump!
  3. I HATE MY JOB!!!!!! Ok, to clarify, I love what I do (software development), I just hate doing it here. And I knew this job was gonna be shitty as soon as I started. They lied to me about how much vacation time I'd get and other benefits and then I was too stupid to get it in writing. I work in a dictatorship. It's a small software company and the owner is a total dickhead. He treats everyone like shit and doesn't think twice about it. 2 years ago he cut the company match on the health insurance by half, last year he took away our 1 floating holiday, this year he cut our regular holidays. He gives us some bullshit about how the company needs to cut costs, but thats total horseshit cause the bookeeper says he's a fuckin millionaire and we're bringing in tons of money every month! The only good thing is that my boss pretty much leaves me alone so I just surf dz.com all day. But I hope to find a better job someday very soon. Can't we bring back the tech boom of the 90's?? 4. I heard somebody say that you get really stiff in freefall up in that cold air. Hard to maintain good body position. Not true?? It would be very cool to land in the snow, tho!
  5. Hey Chad! I just did my first AFF/AFP jump last week. Wow, it's so much different than tandem!! But also way more satifying! You will learn about so much stuff, just try to take it all in. One tip -- pay attention to what you learn about mals and flying your canopy. Cause as soon as you throw that pilot chute, you are on your own! That was somewhat of a rude awakening for me. But I knew what I had to do so I just did it and I was fine. You should have your instructor on a radio, but that might not work or you might not be able to hear them or whatever so remember what they teach you! You are responsible for your own ass up there. Ok, sorry, not trying to scare you. Just pay attention to what you learn and you'll do great! Have fun!!
  6. Hey Punky Monkey! Welcome to the sport!
  7. Yippee!!!! The re-fi on my condo FINALLY came thru today, woo-hoo!!!!
  8. Ok, thanks for clearing up that whole "FF area" thing. hope to see you all there!
  9. Just wondering if I'm gonna see any fellow AFP students while I'm at SDC on Saturday? I'll be going for my level 2 and level 3. I know lots of folks will be there for Summerfest. I hope my landing area is still wide open, I need all the room I can get!
  10. Welcome! Yup, this site is a great place to feed your skydiving bug.
  11. wow.. 5 steps for each handle.. hope you're not reciting all that in your head should you have a high speed. pull red, pull silver Why is this taught as complicated as possible? I would want to have to think through the least amount of steps possible while in an emergency situation as a student. Ya, when I wrote that I was thinking it looked like a lot of steps. But the way they taught us it was all a fluid motion. They said to use both hands so you get it off quickly and then can pull the handle with one hand and the cable with the other. I would rather follow this method and have it work than grab it with 1 hand and have it not come off right away. And hopefully I won't be reciting it, I'll just do it!! At a minimum we were taught to LOOK first, then pull cause a lot of people end up grabbing their harness strap when they don't look. Just what I was taught... "At 13,000 feet nothing else matters." Timeshare

I also have an RCI timeshare. I never use our "home" resort (the one we bought), but we have exchanged it many times for great places. We have gotten Orlando, Bahamas, Spain and Washington. It does help if you request the exchange early, and also if you own a higher power week (red is highest). Although I own the lowest power and have still gotten some great exchanges. I bought a very cheap week/resort, only $2k, and very cheap maintenance fees, watch out for those! I highly recommend it (for the exchange value). When you get an exchange it is waaaaaay cheaper than a rental or hotel. ($120 for a 2 bd/2 ba for 7 nights) And you can go just about anywhere on earth!
  13. Great to hear how you handled it so well! I hope I do the same when the time comes. As for the stuck handle -- I was taught to grab it with both hands, peel it upwards off the velcro, then yank it down with both hands. AKA "Look red, grab red, peel red, yank red, throw red. Look silver, grab silver, peel silver, yank silver, throw silver." It sounds from the other post that this method works pretty well. "At 13,000 feet nothing else matters." PFRX!!!!! 15. Ya, thats gonna be my plan. It sucked leaving the DZ last time after just the 1 jump. I was thinking the next one would be so much better. But I wasn't ready immediately after it and they were taking the last load up then so I declined. But my plan in the future is to do at least 2 jumps a day. And also spend the rest of the day there just observing, meeting people and soaking up the atmosphere.
  16. Hey, you're not supposed to come into this thread and rub it in!! Na, just kidding!
  17. Ok, so now that I'm thoroughly jealous of my friend AJ who completed AFP in 4 straight days, I need to hear from others who took several weeks or months. I don't have that big pile 'o money that she does, so I won't be able to pay for all those jumps anytime real soon. Anyone else in my boat?? Or who else did it all in one shot? (I know lots of people do AFF in one shot, but AFP is 18 jumps so I'm hoping I'm not the only one who has to spread it out...
  18. Ok, so I have to give you your weekend jump numbers -- 0?? : 19 : Many!! You had a lot of firsts -- lets see -- first jump, first stand-up landing, first off landing??, first sitfly, probably more!
