  1. From the AD: So from this, if the pilot was flying in less than moderate icing conditions- would that have been allowed? "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  2. I looked through those, here is a question: Can caravans fly in light icing according the the AD's? Is that correct? I don't have that much knowledge of all of that stuff except from my conversations with pilots (including jump pilots with caravan experience) about this particular incident. I fully realize that I'm like the whuffo reporter butchering skydiving incidents. My only point was, if Cessna was negligent or somewhat responsible then they should be forced to fix things so that future incidents do not occur. 5. Not a joke at all. I was good friends with the pilot of the plane, but I fully realize that in all likelihood it was most likely his fault and he is probably the only one to blame. People aren't perfect, I know that and accept that. However, as some news reports suggest, if there was a problem with the plane icing in conditions where flying was technically ok, then that it is a problem that should be addressed. I'm not saying I think Cessna should be bankrupt or anything like that. What I think is that if there is a problem with Caravans or they shouldn't fly in certain conditions (which may currently be technically allowable conditions) then the company should fix that. 6. I'm not at all surprised. If this crash was found to be due to something that Cessna could have fixed or addressed in years prior, then I feel that they should be held (at least) somewhat accountable. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  7. Can anyone post it? I won't get mine for a while yet. Also, can anyone post the memorial page in there? It's the first time one of my pictures has been in the magazine. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  8. I've been head-down flying as slow as I could go and I docked on belly flyers before with no other hangers. They were wearing a bit of weight and arching hard to up their fall rate for me. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  9. Well.. this isn't about the danger aspect of it.. But- when you're exercising your major muscle groups require more blood, decreasing the amount of blood that goes to such places in your brain as the frontal lobes. Therefore, you can't really perform high level executive funtions as well when you are exercising. A skydiving example more related to your speech might be test-taking. I have become a really good test taker since highschool, I have discovered how to get in my zone and really focus. Perhaps this is related to my learned ability to deal with high stress situations such as freefall, malfunctions or swooping? The level of focus that I have while in freefall is like meditation to me and it's the same place that I go when I'm taking tests. (I know that sounds really cheesy.) I know that may be kind of off from the point of your speech, but in brainstorming even the off ideas help me a little bit. 10. Lucky!!! I want to move to Colorado once I get my masters. Only 6 more quarters and I'll see ya there. (Unless I get a fellowship in New Zealand - in that case, peace out, fool.) "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  11. I wasn't specifically referring to the game. I actually thought the game was funny, but I can see how people may not appreciate the attention. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  12. I went fly-fishing earlier today and now I am painting a memorial picture for my personal satisfaction. If the weather is good tomorrow then I will be skydiving. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  13. You should really go back and re-read your posts sometime. Notice a trend? It's probably just everybody else though.. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  14. Who carries a map and a compass? Developing better awareness of your surroundings is probably a better way to deal with things. I try to carry a pull-up cord and rubber bands. But I've used a shoelace in a pinch when I've wanted to close my rig up before I went walking to find a ride. Although, I must say that the garbage bag is a good idea. I've hitched a ride back before and gotten something on my canopy that melted the fabric away-fertilizer or battery acid probably. 15. I've got a '97 CRV with 120,000 miles on it. I really like this car! Been a great size car for roadtrips with two people and large dog. It has pretty good gas mileage for being a mini-suv (~25 mpg) and it is such a reliable car. My car has made it up to the firetower at lost prairie. Not an easy drive!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not sure about newer models, but mine has all wheel drive and seems to handle really great. Yeah, it has less power and that is noticeable when doing stuff like passing someone while going up hill, but that is not something that I personally really care about. So I go a little slower - not a big deal. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

    Dogs..

I'm sorry - how have I been determined to be a bad dog owner??? "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

    Dogs..

My dog doesn't jump on people and yeah, I think it is fine to get hair on people. People who don't want hair on them can just choose to not pet my dog, or ride in the backseat of my car. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

    Dogs..

What did a dog ever do to you? Sheesh.. I clean up when my dog goes in my neighbor's yard, my dog may bark and whine sometimes (he is a husky) but my neighbors could only hear it if they were standing in my yard. So people get dog hair on them.. big deal. Know a quick fix for getting rid of dog hair? Go skydiving. Seriously, whips all that dog hair right off your clothes. Probably help you mellow out too.. Dogs..

My dog does something pretty similar. He'll crawl into bed between my boyfriend and I (if there is no room between us he lays on top of me). Then he'll gaze lovingly into my boyfriend's eyes, put his feet on his chest, and then push me out of the bed! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

  21. Of course I give it to them for free! They are my friends, and being nice to each other makes work so much more enjoyable. It doesn't trouble me at all, I've already been paid, why not? Just because you could get paid to do something, doesn't mean that you should. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

He is a husky-lab mix. Pretty spunky guy for 13! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

    Dogs..

My dog is one funny guy. Everytime he goes outside and comes back in when called, he gets a treat. Reinforcing good behavior and all of that. Well, he completely manipulates me for treats, pretends he has to go out, he'll walk down the steps of the house, sniff the air, come back in when I call his name and then run to where the treats are. When I call him out on it and slap his butt (playfully) and say, "You didn't have to pee, you just wanted a treat!" He puts his tail between his legs, laughs (I swear- he can laugh), and runs in a circle - then demands the treat anyways. Dogs are good people. Now he is back whining at the door wanting to earn another treat! "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
  24. I get the flu shot every year, I've got asthma and have been hospitalized in the past from the flu. Not fun! I've never gotten really sick in the ten years that I've been getting the flut shot, but it could just as well be regular exercise and sleep that is keeping me protected versus the shot. Oh well, I know when I'm around people with the flu I feel immune, and that in itself probably does me a lot of good!
