you must be misinterpreting the "vibes" the wrong way. i bought all brand new gear when i was going through AFP. no one got spiteful about it. in fact i got a lot of help with gear selection from my jump master and the DZO. lose the attitude, this could be what's causing the negative reactions to you? but hey, what do i know??? it's one more thing that has a great potential to ruin my sky dive or take my life, or the glider pilot's life. what would have happened if this scenario would have caused someone to deploy early? that's good. as much as your DZ operates under these conditions, the more acclamated the sky divers are to this situation. i jump at a couple of DZ's that have the same aircraft flying as well. i guess i should say i don't hate them as much as it "complicates" sky dives, and it causes me to have an additional hazard to be aware of. it's not a matter of "if" but "when" exactly what do you mean when you say "We use to check airspace on climbing?" everyone should check for aircraft on the climb to altitude and check their spot, that didn't happen in this sky dive the .jpeg image comes from. i understand where your coming from. sky divers need to be aware that you can do everything right and still die. doesn't matter whose fault it is, if it results in an injury/death. this is a "HYPO" (HSE term) high potential incident occurence. as much as i hate gliders, for this very reason, imho these sky divers should have checked the spot for traffic before exiting the aircraft. call me cautious. take a look at the fatality data base and see how many sky divers lost their lives last year alone for this very same reason. that said, this isn' new. be responsible for yourself and others in the air around you. every time i exit an aircraft to do a sky dive i know it might be the last thing i do. so, i stay prepared for that at all times. i'm quite confident that i will not die in a skydiving related incident, but more likely on a drilling rig where i work, it's way more hazardous than skydiving. but to answer your question, yes i will still skydive even though the likelyhood of dying is ever present each and every skydive. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
