  5. Hey bro, I don't care about what everyone else says about you. That said, thanks for keeping the rest of the world up to date concerning the region that breeds swoopers. I like to think of the Florida Georgia region (OK The Farm) as swoop Mecca. Every swooper should travel to The Farm at least once in their lives (and swoop the meat of the pond, none of this side slide BS). Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!

  8. What tree?? I swoop the farm all the time, and am unaware of any tree that needs removing. Tree swooping can be quite refreshing........ Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!
  9. It would seem to me that if you are in fact as you said leaving your brakes stowed AND pulling down on your rears, that you would be approaching a stall. That is to say you would be going more in the vertical as opposed to the horizontal. The reason I suppose this is if your brakes are stowed, that means the tail of your canopy is already "grabbing" air and slowing down. Pulling on your rears further distorts the tail of the canopy making it grossly inefficient because you are now not flying the entire canopy. I also believe that full flight into the wind is the way to go. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!
  10. I can't truly see the wisdom of assuming that the person that you can't see can see you, and to a further point personally I would not trust that someone behind me would have the presence of mind or the reaction time to move so that I could perform a maneuvre. Additionally that's kind of putting undo stress on the people following you as you are forcing them to react to you as you said "they would see me and move to the side" and assuming they will react correctly, as apposed to allowing them to follow a smooth traffic pattern.. 11. My only advice as a swooper is "THINK BIG" and leave room to expand. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!

  16. Now young Grasshopette......you must now come to The Farms vast pond and high performance training grounds and learn to use the Katana and become a swoop assassin. C'mon all the cool kids are doing it. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!

  19. The issue with 180 approaches is that you essentially have to fly over and past your intended target which requires you to take your eyes off of your target. That said, I believe Ian is correct 180's are both part of "natural" progression and also safer than 270's when practiced in the proper environment (ie. Hop n' Pop where you are either the only one flying or have communicated your intent clearly with other canopy pilots). As with 90's when properly executed 180's will produce a lot of power, so approach this process with a clear head and a clear plan. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!
  20. ME DAMMIT!!! I'll be doin' the Wingsuit, Freefly, Canopy FLock, Random Stills and Video, Swoop thing. My girl is organizing belly fliers, that's right ladies one of your own fought her way into an organizer slot, just find Janet when you get there and do something fantastic. If it's going to be really fantastic I've got inside video. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!
  21. No assholioness intended, but the person referred to in that link had around 1300 jumps and was considering between a Katana and a Velo. Personally I think the Katana is a great and extremely fun canopy to fly....that said I (and this is just my two cents here) don't think it is the best tool to use for getting rid of Stiletto habits. Many people believe that the KA was designed as a replacement for the Stiletto which is definately not the case. The Stiletto has a very flat trim and very shallow recovery arc, the Katana on the other hand is the polar opposite it is ground hungry and has a deep recovery arc approaching that of a Velo. I'm not saying you couldn't safely pilot a Katana, what I'm saying is that if your goal is to pilot a Katana and after that a Velocity well, a good transitional canopy between the Stiletto and the Katana would be a Sabre II. It is a stable platform that is more forgiving when you are figuring things out. Learning proper technique on something bigger and slower makes transitioning to the higher performance wings easier. Whatever you choose get coaching, BE SAFE and BE CONSERVATIVE. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!
  22. Good catch Dave. How I meant for that to sound was, that even if competition wasn't his ultimate goal going through the paces under a Sabre II would serve him well. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!
  23. I promise you won't be disappointed with the Sabre II if your intention is to be a good swooper (not necessarily a competition swooper). The 120 would be a good place to start and then advance on down the line to a 107after a couple hundred jumps and then probably to a 97 (I think) and then you get to upsize to a Katana and then keep progressing. Don't think for a minute that you are taking a step backward by going to a Sabre II either. I took a Sabre II 135 to the first CPC Championships in 2005 (you had to qualify top 5 in your district that year). The Sabre II has a much longer recovery arc than the Stilletto, which when you learn to exploit it will allow you to build power and swooper harder. It is more docile at lighter wing loadings, and you can really make it sing when you load it heavy. Put some time and effort in, and it'll work out for ya. 24. I might be a little out of pace here, but it looks like the general consensus is to have someone with 5 years in the sport and only 600 jumps (avg. 120 per year) on a velocity or a katanna. Personally I think this is flawed, if he wants a canopy that can outperform a Stilletto swooping my advice would be to go to a Sabre II. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!
  25. I may just do that, never been to SDC. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!
