What can we do about Skyride?
LoudDan replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've seen the list you are talking about, it was posted some time ago, well the link to the website it is on anyway. Believe it if you like, I stand by my statement, as much as peer pressure from upjumpers can sway an opinion, high financial yield from say........ tandems which yield somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 to 5 times as much as a single upjumper on a single load even after the camera person and tandem masters are paid can understandably justify an unpopular decision. Hell, I can go post my name on any list saying I do or don't do something............doesn't necessarily make it so does it? Again I'm not defending anyone, just stirring the pot a little because I think it is going to be interesting when all of a sudden things start coming to light. Remember owning a DZ is a business, and although I am not implying that every DZO has gone the Skyride route, far from it, however I haven't met a business owner yet that didn't like making money. And if the money comes easy why would you do anything to jepardize that income................. like admitting where it comes from. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!! -
What can we do about Skyride?
LoudDan replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So I guess my wonder is if the USPA is going to pull the group memberships of any dropzone that does business with Skyride. There are a lot of them out there, most operate under the contingency that knowledge not be made known. The skydiving public at large would probably be surprised at which DZ's conduct business with Skyride. Not defending Skyride or the DZ's by any stretch, but like I said, should be interesting, junkfood for the brain. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!! -

Oh I don't know.....I think the USPA may have just stirred itself up a small shit storm. Where's the popcorn, this should get interesting. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!! -
"Above Nashville Skydiving"... is NOT!!
LoudDan replied to chaoskitty's topic in Events & Places to Jump
It wouldn't be an ASC bashing thing, it could be a skyride bashing thing though. ASC is just a dropzone, skyride is the booking agency who through various "different practices" books tandems and other stuff. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!! -
Nate Gilbert "Have a Good Jump" Boogie
LoudDan replied to Dignthecornr's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I'll be out sometime after work on Friday morning, I hope anyone else who had the priveledge of knowing Nate will at at least stop on by and say "Howdy". Nate was all about the skydive, about fun, and about love for our sport and the people in it. So call it a dare, call it a challenge, call it whatever you want, but if you knew Nate drop the politics, drop the bitching, drop the "he said she said", ignore the asshole comments and c'mon out and make a great skydive. This boogie isn't about us, it's about remembering a great friend, coach, teacher, and skydiver, and celebrating that which he loved so much. GO BIG and HAVE A GREAT SKYDIVE!! Good canopy for learning to swoop?
LoudDan replied to tetra316's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control

Good canopy for learning to swoop?
LoudDan replied to tetra316's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I started learning to swoop under a Sabre 2 190 somewhere around 700 jumps later, I now have a Sabre 2 135 (somewhere around a 1.8 WL) at any rate, I am a firm believer in "The pilot makes the canopy perform not the canopy makes the pilot perform". Your learning progression will accelerate by sticking to the same wing, sure when you downsize it's a little twitchier and faster, but you will be familiar with the flight characteristics. 135's like the pond too Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!! -

Z-Hills is a great DZ, but you should also check out Sebastian. Wendy runs one hell of a DZ down there (how she does it all I'll never know), The parties at Sebastian are always for the record books. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!

$18,000 purse for CPC Championships...
LoudDan replied to CanopyPiloting's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
i get it... trust me! everything is reletive.. less speed more lift=more distance. less lift more speed= more distance... = reletive... we will see what happens/.. i hope i get a weeks worth of practice though! OK I'll bite: If you have less speed how are you generating more lift to gain further distance??? To the same token, how is gaining speed but loseing lift giving you more distance?? Inquiring minds want to know. Modern physicists are interested too. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!! -

You mean Warner Robbins right down by Macon. I on't know anyone down that way, but I'm pretty sure your closest bet would be Thomaston, probably an hour away, give or take a few. I've driven it, but I've never timed it. I'm sure if you ask around the base someone could hook you up, or you might think about renting a car, it's worth it dude, that DZ is awesome. True dat. I entered my first swoop comp under a Sabre II 190. Contrary to the hundreds of skydivers that claim the've gotten all they can out thier current sized Sabre 2 I have found the canopy to cover a very broad spectrum from basic stand up landings all the way to advanced canopy piloting/ pond swooping. A cross braced canopy is definately not necessary for the CPC, hell I don't have one. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!
