  1. Corporations are people and most of them end up with multiple legal mergers. So basically the US Gov has always supported a poly lifestyle. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  2. *** Serious consideration of mental healthcare and counciling is an issue in and of itself and improving access to it is something that politicians would not have as much trouble building support for if it were not bundled with other "off the shelf" gun control measures. [/Quote] Like Obamacare? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  3. Just a random thought: talking works long before they walk in the front door. However the position many people have on gun control prevent that from ever happening. I guess its better to just build an armory instead. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  4. Fighting over the definition of the conditions people need help with will not motivate them to seek out preventive and maintenance care. As it is most individuals already have an uphill battle with finding an easy way to get affordable care. As a future medical provider you should be encouraging people to seek out help to get healthier instead of putting the focus on labels which helps absolutely no one. Don't get hung up on what is essentially a medical billing issue. Unless of course your advice to people with addictions is "Man the fuck up" because then you are just part of the problem. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 5. Been away from the SC for a while and was surprised to see so many KKK talking points in this forum. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  6. You are incorrect. Diagnoses' that go into the DSM are voted into existence without peer review. You misunderstood the comment. It's the phenomenon of having a bias that selects against contradictory information that has ironically been studied, peer reviewed, etc. /edited to add: unless you're focusing on the "as well." Yes what you are talking about is called selection bias. There is lots of evidence that moderate drinking works, and that most problem drinkers quit on their own without treatment. This pesky data is often left out by those who regard alcoholism to be a disease. You should look up confirmation bias. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  7. Probably! If there were dozens, if not hundreds, of school children there. And no guns because it's a "gun free zone". Think about it. Think about this: It only took one person talking to him to get him to stop and surrender. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 8. That's a theory cannot be tested. I can't just say "I'm perfect I've never made a mistake so when I take a drink it's not caused by a molecule, but when you have a drink it's caused by a molecule" There's no way for you to prove your molecules are NOT causing you to drink. If fails the scientific criteria of testability/falsifiability. Also, to the above post, alcoholism is 'believed' by some to be a disease, it is not a fact. Very important to separate opinion from fact. First off that would be a hypothesis, not a theory. And just because you put believed inside quotation marks to emphasize your thoughts on this topic, it doesn't make the scientific research obsolete. Elbows and assholes I guess. What concerns me about a large portion of this country is their willingness to allow their small world view shape their beliefs in the face of facts. What is worse is that when presented with facts they become more stubborn in their ignorance. Ironically enough, this has been proven, tested and peer reviewed as well. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 11. Have you worked at a school or in the FA department? Look up what bad dept is to a school and how it impacts their ratings and how they get around it. Some schools that use predatory tactics have ended up in court but it doesn't put a dent in their pocket. I've worked there and seen it in action, it's a very dirty industry; not all loans are for 4 year universities. Also, not everyone can get into the University or program they want. As someone that has hired over 200 people this year I can tell you that the majority of them needed a 4 year degree (hint: it didn't matter what the degree was unless they were in computer programming or oil/shale). It's great that you live in an idealistic world but with how competitive the market is for very skilled unemployed people it doesn't work that way. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 14. As I said before, data is data and in this era of information it should all be collected and displayed. The biggest problem I have with both sides of the gun debate is that PR-like firms have decided what information gets disseminated and after 50 years of that people believe it's the correct way to look at it. It's like in baseball where people believe that the W-L record of a pitcher or the BA of a player is the best way to measure a player. But after the introduction of sabremetrics those perceptions have been blown away by looking at the bigger picture and presenting all of the data and showing true trends. I believe the same thing could be done here. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  15. No, I just don't care about strawman discussions. I'm looking for facts and won't be drawn into a distractions away from the original topic. Except for the strawman that Chicago shootings would magically cease due to the decision in McDonald that allows Chicagoans to have handguns in their homes, perhaps...or were you implying something different, upthread? Except with the data provided you could present the information in more than one way, including home based crimes. Heck, it could make the NRA happy to push for conceal laws if the data came out right. Data is data and it ALL needs to be collected. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  18. Then look for the questions I asked. Simple A+B=C claims on a topic like this are typically poor conclusions. I also provided links to searchable murder history in two cities going back three years. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 19. This is not the information I was asking for, nor was it a condition supplied in the original post. Ok, it was not what you asked for but it is highly relavant Then it should have also been supplied by the OP, as should have all the additional information I asked for in this thread earlier. If my line of thinking is invalid then the entire point of this thread is invalid and it's propaganda instead of statistical data. Well it is nice you have an opinion Wanting to develop and display relational data is fact and brings about better conclusions that are free of opinion. This is what I'm looking for; proving the correlation instead of making inflammatory statements or personal attacks. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 22. Quote: "Since 1991, when total violent crime peaked, it has decreased 43 percent to a 35-year low. The murder rate, less than half what it was in 1980, is now at a 45-year low. Throughout, the number of guns that Americans own has risen by about four million a year...See attached chart. It completely baffles me how you could look at this data and conclude that it proves "more guns equals more crime". If you respond, please try and do so without insults. So do you have any good numbers for Chicago now that handguns are legal here? From what they have been telling us the numbers are up across the board on violent crimes. Just last night there were 10 shootings over night on a cool Monday evening. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 23. It's refreshing to see the audience wasn't hand picked by a news station to perpetuate a campaign narrative while the media was locked out. For those that can't remember, this is how town halls used to work and all open political forums should. However the preference is for ideological circle jerks that makes everyone feel better about their view point that has never been exposed to the light of day. It's never a good idea to be fully inline with a political representative and they should always go challenged including by the people that voted them in. This makes the system work as it's intended. It should also be noted that the so called liberal mainstream media reported this story in full today. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 24. Blah blah blah. The stats come from the FBI and BJS. Not the NRA. I presented a graph showing the trend over decades. What more do you need to realize that this isn't just a one-time thing? Now that we've reached the point of insults once again, another thread is shot to heck. Seeing more details and more depth to the information would help end the argument, however neither side is invested in seeing an end to the discussion; there is money to be made in the argument. LA and Chicago have taken to recording all homicides in detail. Once the census data is out you will be able to start making better comparisons to the old data. Is it possible to get a listing of how many new guns entered a neighborhood legally? http://projects.latimes.com/homicide/blog/page/1/ http://homicides.redeyechicago.com/ The raw data is there for you to pull and a google map of the data is already active on each page. note: I'll try to find the numbers, but crime, shootings, murders and dead cops are all on the rise locally. Additionally shootings and murders around schools have skyrocketed, the majority of which are ending up dead as they walk home and were caught in a crossfire. The Chicago Police Department is grossly understaffed and have turned on their leadership. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 25. Source: http://www.ammoland.com/2010/09/19/deja-vu-all-over-again-more-guns-less-crime/ I would be interested to see the following: *Zip codes where crime when down/up *Zip codes where new gun ownership was registered and cross compare that to the first point. *Total amounts of guns in zip code before and after crime change. *Number of crimes that were averted or at the very least had a gun onsite with the victim *Types of crimes by type (robbery, etc), not category (violent/nonviolent) *Population change in zip code *Income change in zip code *Commercial growth change in zip code *How much money was spent by the local government in improving that zip code or how much had been lost. At least 10 years of data on these would be nice _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
