  1. Would you settle for her Swedish stunt double? -------------------------------------------------------- Yeah probably works for all us Tom if she's hot! Somehow I think it might be impossible to find a replacement for Angelina though.
  2. You know my experience with skydiving and now BASE when dealing with girlfriends has been that they initially think it's cool and are okay with it. Then after a while when they learn to differentiate the two, they seem to be accepting of skydiving but anti-BASE. That's usually when I say goodbye and let em go. I recently booted a chick that seemed cool with BASE for about a month or so, then she tried to lay some guilt trip on me. It's never easy I know. But nevertheless I'm pretty certain that my desire to eventually meet the right girl and do the family thing will be the end of BASE for me. I have talked with some well known BASE jumpers who quit BASE for awhile to pursue a relationship, only to have the relationship end and no sooner were they back jumping. . . . .I could see myself in that boat too!! For now, I'm only 30. I've got a few more years to fuck around!! Cheers, J.P.
  3. Where the hell do you land in downtown NYC during rush hour without the chance of hurting a bystander? ----------------------------------------------------------- Was this meant to be a rhetorical question? . . . .There isn't a guarantee you're not going to hit a bystander. It's an added risk of Building BASE, and is one of the reasons why it's best to do B jumps at night correct? Obviously not option on ESB. I've never stood below this object and don't know what the landing aread looks like. I do believe Jeb would stand a far greater chance of not hurting a bystander than. . . .I would. J.P.
  4. Tough question. . . . . If I ever get married or have kids, I'll quit. But even then I won't want to, and I'll most likely be pretty bitter with myself for quitting BASE. Beyond that. . . .???
  5. ha ha. Yeah it is a skill in and of itself.
  6. I'm not necessarily speaking for myself here since I'm new to BASE, but I do know jumpers that are willing to go to great lengths to get certain objects. And you never know, one of these days when I have more time under belt maybe I'll want to use similar approaches. And Tenshi. . . . . .use your head. I think its pretty clear that I was making a general statement about the use of disguise as a BASE access tool. Hence the words "infilitration METHODS"!!
  7. Magot, I gotta tell you I'm with you on this one all the way. Even though ESB is high profile and supposedly a "once in a lifetime" jump where normal ethics don't apply, I call bullshit on that. NYC law makers are extra sensitive when it comes to issues involving breach of security, and this stunt definately has the potential to bring down a shitstorm for the rest of you. Not to mention this incindent clearly illustrates some of the "infiltration methods" used to gain access to some objects. All around bad for all BASE jumpers. J.P.

Yeah okay. Your point? Glad to hear you made it. Video? . . .Good attitude. I'm sure people are just dying to take you out to their favorite objects.
  9. Damn that sucks. Who would've tipped off the cops?
  10. "In any case, I think we had a better chance of getting through a fatality free year back then. Today, that doesn’t even seem remotely possible. And that’s sad." ----------------------------------------------------------- Nick, I agree. But I'm not surprised. BASE gear has improved since the early days, and equally knowledge of packing and teaching methods. But with that confidence has increased too, and today it seems like more jumpers are deliberately doing more dangerous things (ie. purposely flying wingsuits close to towers/ledges, using high performance clothing to push it further/lower). And of course, there's the increased volume of people getting into BASE factor. --------------------------------------------------------- "In a sense, even with the internet nowadays, I think we communicated better in those days, and more of us were on the same page so to speak. Today the signal to noise ratio keeps many from hearing the truth of it . . . or has them chasing falsehoods." ----------------------------------------------------------- Could this be another way of saying that BASE is more glamourized now through DVD & internet media, and more people are being drawn to it without deeply considering the consequences inherent in the sport? . . . .when I read the list it does seem like BASE went through a brief period of less carnage back in the day.

yeah no shit. Take it over to "General Skydiving Discussions" swooper 120
  12. Nick, I think it's safe to say we all learn so much from your list and thank you very much for your hard work. J.P.
  13. Yeah. I just thought that it looked a little funny having that gap in those specific years. I wondered if there was a story behind it.
  14. I was recently checking out Nick's BASE fatalilty list and noticed that there are no deaths listed from 1991-1992. Was there no deaths during this time? Anyone know what's up with that? J.P.

    BASE ETHICS

Dude! I'm not even going to start. . . . been drinking all day!! Good to see you guys made it with no injuries!!! Cheers, J.P.
  16. You know someone was telling me about a jumper who was thinking about a jump from a hanging ice cliff on a steep, pyramid shape Himalayan classic. l that would be pretty damn cool to see.
  17. . . . .anyways hey Hecker bro hang in there. I've been keepin tabs on this whole thread and all I can say is that you are a much tougher man than I.
  18. Well. . . .it worked for me!! I still cringe everytime I watch that.
  19. I think 460 is right. I'm not sure airspeed is relative in the thin atmosphere like that found high in the Himalaya. Density decreases with an increase in alt of above sea level right?
  20. The buddy was Nic Feteris --------------------------------------------------------- Yeah I guess I got that one a little bassackwards. Obviously Nic was the one with all the BASE knowledge; I still can't believe Singleman didn't go in on that jump from TT. His out of control spin shown on the video is the epitamy of "pucker factor".
  21. So. . . . .other than the big tower(s) that were jumped by Glen Singleman and his buddy awhile back, have there been any other walls jumped in the Himalaya to speak of? Also, I'm curious to know what the laws are regarding BASE in countries like Nepal, Pakistan, etc. Is backcountry BASE in these countries tolerated? No need to name sites. Pm's would be cool. Cheers, J.P.
  22. I know everyone has questions about this incident that they are itching to have answered. I apologize if this is out of place. . . . Given that he was jumping slider down off a wall that I believe (not sure) is commonly done slider up, I'm wondering about his brake setting. I am a new to BASE and I'm not sure if the brake setting for slider up vs. slider down jumps is different. If it is different, could it be possible that he was jumping a canopy that he had been packing slider up with a shallow brake setting, whereby this contributed to the quick 180? I did read above that his body position wasn't the greatest, but this is just something that crossed my mind. J.P.
  23. Exited from LM. No track suit/pants. ----------------------------------------------------------- I have read in the past following another fatality from this site, that LM is an advanced skills BASE jump and not to be under estimated. Is this an appropriate exit point for someone with. . . .say under 10 bigwall jumps? Sorry to hear about this. Condolences.
