  6. I was taught to use only the legs and feet as the primary control surfaces in ALL types of freefly. With sitfly the hands and arms are the secondary and I was told "twisting" to move or turn was a no-no. But I must confess I am a bit envious...It took me 50 jumps to get where you are now.   9. Well, I'm still in the dark. Is a muff just a name? Are there muff sisters? Do you wear a muff? Can you smoke a muff? Do you eat a muff? Can you pull a muff over your ears?   10. Everyone has had problems packing new canopies. The Triathlon fabric you are used to tends to be less slippery than the DuPont Solarmax (I believe that's what PD is using for the Sabre II). There are a couple alternatives: Buy a Hornet instead of the SabreII (grin). The Hornet packs easier because it's the same fabric as your Tri, the lines are color coded and quite a few people believe it flies better than the new SabreII. If you don't buy that Hornet, I would suggest trying to Psycho pack that slippery new canopy. It's one way to tame new ZP fabric. I wish you luck and PATIENCE. "Slow down!   11. I was in the tunnel for 40 min total time (my wife and I bought 1 hour together). It seemed a bit much for one morning, as I was surprised how quickly I became fatigued. I should have given her the last 10. Next time I'll do 20 min, once in the morning and once in the afternoon or spread it out over 2 days.   14. Ouch!! that sounds a bit pricey.(and you are jumping from a Cessna?) If you go for that deal, I'd like to interest you in some swamp land in Hartville, Ohio... Jump in with an RW group and save some bucks. If you need some speciality help, find an individual and buy their jump to assist you in learning. Better yet, spend some time at Skyventure.   15. I used a Dolphin for freefly for 1-1/2 years and never had a problem....but after buying a G-3, I would never jump a Dolphin again. The Dolphin just doesn't offer the same feeling of security. My friend just bought a second Dolphin and she is mostly a sitflyer. She has been freeflying 4 years with a Dolphin and has never had a problem. I had 2 chops freeflying with a Reflex. "Slow down!   16. I get the best openings on my Xaos21 when I keep the packing simple. I just walk the lines. shake the canopy, throw the "D's" in the center and finish with a Psycho pack. I use very small rubber bands and don't double stow anything. I've had twists a few times, but the canopy spun on it's own and corrected the problem. Unlike other elipticals I've flown, the Xaos flies best without me steering through the opening or doing some exotic packing trick. "Slow down! You are too young to be moving that fast!"   17. I don't have the empirical data to justify my position and unfortunately Cypres will not release information about cause and frequency of misfires. ( I have made repeated requests) With all of our other equipment, we get feedback...why not the Cypres?? Two years ago I saw saw a Cypres fire during an agressive hook turn. Givin the limited lifespan, the high maintenance cost, and the fact I can't turn a Cypres off under canopy...I'll stick with and advocate using an Astra over a Cypres for the ultra high performance canopy pilot.   18. I've jumped all 3. The Velocity is really a different bird, being crossed-braced. It is an ultra high performance canopy. Comparing the Vengence to the Stiletto: If the canopies are the same size the Vengence seems to fly bigger and is the lesser performer, but Vengence is more stable than the Stiletto and has more flare on landing. The Vengence is bulkier than the Stiletto but not that much harder to pack. Again, if you are flying the same size canopies, I think the Stiletto is the better performer. "Slow down!   19. My first 3 rigs had an ADD. I got rid of both Cypres units and just kept my ASTRA. I am worried about Cypres activation under canopy and like the ASTRA because I can easily turn it off when I'm under canopy. "Slow down! You are too young to be moving that fast!" Old Man Crawfish
  20. I only have 3 jumps an a SabreII. I have many jumps on my Stiletto. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Any statements comparing the two are useless. There is too much difference between the two canopies. Both are good canopies. BUT it 's like automobiles... like the Hummer compared to the Chevy Blazer. What do you need?? Then get it!! "Slow down!   21. In 1971 my buddy showed up at the DZ with an all red Para-Plane. Now most of us jumped T-10 rounds or the canopies like the Para-Commander. The Para-Plane canopy was awesome to see fly. It was a beautiful canopy and the esthetics of it cannot be compared to the canopies of today. The Thunderbow was the only other one that I really fell in love with. I wish the younger jumpers could understand how beautiful these canopies were!
  22. Do a search on this forum. There is a lot of great sit advice. Also,try flying from a cross-legged indian style or the VRW stable position advocated by Pat Works. I learned through incremental steps, starting with the VRW stable. Good Luck!
  23. Just from personal experience and observations of other students ( and you may be an exception), at your experience level and loading, 150 might be a bit much. Also, the frequency that you jump is a very important number to be considered. You need to consider flight in adverse conditions, because you will have your butt in a jam one day. I would advise you to get at least 100 jumps on a 170 first. Perfect your canopy skill at the lighter loading without as much risk, then move down. Best of luck!

  25. I don't use an RSL. The reasons for using one or not using one have been beat to death on this forum. It's an educated decision to be made by each individual jumper.
