I really like the approach you outlined and I think it makes a lot of sense to have a heavily moderated forum where the facts, or whatever approximates facts could be posted. I think this would go a long way towards getting relevant information out to people in a timely manner. One thing I would ask is that it not be reduced to an online version of the incidents section in parachutist. I understand your point about having the opposite of the desired effect, but i'm not 100% on board with you yet. I think people will always discuss every incident, whether they are classified as routine or unusual. I thought that having a "routine" incidents forum would ultimately put people on notice as to the frequency of routine vs. unusual events. So the spirit of my original post was not really about finding unusual incidents, but rather to highlight the alarming rate at which people continue to make the same mistakes. You also mentioned how the notion of "routine" evolves. I think it would be interesting academically to see how the community's definition of "routine" changes over time. For example, weren't no-pull's fairly routine before AAD's, and now it's low turns? But as a friend pointed out, the classification of an incident as routine could become a point of serious contention/debate and detract from the purpose of n incidents forum. I haven't jumped in some time but I do check in here occasionally and have noticed over time that there are two types of incidents in skdiving: routine and unusual. At the risk of sounding harsh/heartless, I would like to propose that the incidents forum be separated into a "routine" incidents forum and an "unusual" incidents forum. I think this will do at least two things. First, having a routine incidents forum will make it more obvious how often people make the same mistakes, e.g. hooking it in. Perhaps it will make some people think twice about what they do when they are at the dz. Secondly, separating all the routine, nothing to learn from incidents from the true WTF type incidents may help to focus the community's awareness onto what are truly tragic incidents that we can all learn from. Some past examples are tandem incidents, slink cover incidents/fatalities, camera suit/gear and wingsuit related incidents. In terms of implementation, I think initially all incidents should probably be classified as unusual until proven otherwise. What do you all think? I can't attest to why the program was cancelled back in the 60's but when I was an undergrad there in the 90's I knew of only one ROTC student. Seemed to me like they just didn't have enough interest on campus to justify building a high quality ROTC program. Fordham already offers a fantastic program at their manhattan campus. Why start a program on campus that may take years to get up to speed and even then, may never be as good as what is already available to its students? In fact, the same argument can be made of the Columbia medical school. Their classrooms are off the main campus deep in the freaking hood, right next to the Columbia hospital. Or how about evil cornell medical school located not in Ithaca, NY along with the rest of the students but in the heart of New York City? My point is that maybe they've gotten to the point where Columbia ROTC students can get better training off campus than they can on campus. Anyone ever stop to think about that? I find it interesting that this type of attack hasn't already occurred in the US. I have very limited experience with Brits so perhaps one of the locals could comment, but it seems to me like minorities, particularly Muslims, are marginalized and persecuted more often in GB vs. the US, leading to an environment conducive to extremist beliefs. It's interesting to see how much of the budget goes to paying off the costs of past wars (presumably interest on war-related debt, veterans pensions and benefits...) My problem with the opposing landing patterns is that it only works if the no fly zone is strictly observed. If someone screws up their base leg it's highly probable that they will violate the no fly zone and pose an unexpected hazard. People setting up too high in the pattern could take their base leg long (seen it happen in Eloy with their split landing area), or people setting up low in the right handed pattern could bail on their 270 and opt out for a 90 or 180, which would be ok unless people get their panties in a bunch about 90's and 180's in the high performance area. If all traffic is coming in from the same direction with a split landing area, at least the intentions of the traffic are clear as to what type of turn they are planning. I'm interested in moving away from wide angle for 4-way video in order to be able to film at a much steeper angle without catching their burble. Anyone out there do this? Hey that's really cool you guys are doing better. When I was looking to buy a crossfire2 or katana last year, what really won me over was the customer service, not to say Icarus was bad, it's just that PD was better specifically in terms of responsiveness and ability to provide demos on a timely basis (1 to 2 week vs. 1+ months). I also found the ease at which I could order a h.p. demo canopy from Icarus somewhat disturbing. PD made an effort to check if I could survive demoing their product before sending it out to me. Unfortunately racism IS alive and well in police departments across the US. There are countless incidents proving this. Absolutely this is a double standard. You cannot expect society to apply the same standards to the untrained joe schmo protecting his house and highly trained law enforcement. The average citizen is not given the same level of authority nor training as a police officer has and should not be governed by the same rules of conduct.With power comes responsibility and accountability, a concept that a lot of people talk about but never seem to understand. "A veteran officer fired his weapon 31 times, emptying two full magazines, Kelly said." If this is indeed true, I find it extremely difficult that this officer acted purely in self defense and was not at least partially motivated by anger. I'm having trouble finding and fitting a pair of goggles to use with my FTP. I started off with a pair of goggles with a stiff frame, but the frame would dig into my temple due to the helmet padding. I switched to the flex goggles but now i'm having some trouble with excessive airflow thru the goggles drying out my contact lenses in freefall. How about other people's equipment? Can someone's analog or digital altimeter/ditter get screwed up on an exit where the person's alti/ditter comes into close proximity with the magnets? How about video tapes getting funky on a funneled exit because a video camera got too close to one of these magnets? How about metal particles being attracted and retained by the magnets and causing excessive wear and tear to the materials near the magnets? Are any of these legitimate concerns?
