  1. Who did make the Optical cable that simply stuck over your rec lamp? Could make a come back for GoPros Kai
  2. Spending many days of research on this to be Proper :) and pay artist their dues, but it is a jungle Can anyone summarize it all for real? What License we need for Tandem Videos? Whats the Best Description of a Tandem Video? Documentary or a Short Film? My Research Sync License : to sync the song as background to your video New Media License : for Internet Videogram License : for DVD Mechanical/Master License : for Promotional use Royalty Free Sites It seems alot offer free download or a few dollar purchase but they seem to be for listening as "personal use" like itunes. Am I right that alot of us are getting confused and downloading these songs thinking they are for legal commercial use? Eg: Jamendo.com.. to License for Tandem Videos you need to goto the PRO section or click on license. Uniquetracks.com I like this site because you get different versions of the song, and their License Legal Stuff http://www.uniquetracks.com/licensing-information.html other music site Youlicense.com Soundclick.com It may cost a few more dollars, but it only moves the industry forward and more professional. Eventually DZOs will follow and put up our rates as contractors :) Maybe more artist will join us and create more modern tracks for us specifically in mind. Thanks for your help Kai
  3. The DSE reviewed side by side comparison was the CX100 vs CX500. My Cx550 footage for the expert to dissect http://www.vimeo.com/14549985 OIS is OFF, Century 0.55 My CX550 Review I have the CX150 but I bought the CX550 for the following features G series glass lens Video Wide Angle = 30mm, (previously 45mm) 37mm thread (no step up rings) (no black corners, less fisheye) Mic Input Jack Remote (turns out useless for slowmo)(previous models don't work either) Remote RMT-835 you still have to hit pause then slow like the lcd buttons i was hoping the previous models would work but they don't do anything. (I tried the RMT-831 and RMT-814) So nothing really solved there with the remote Stills Photo Mode 12MP Camera Mode 8.1MP Video Still Grab 2.1MP The only thing that worried me was the power settings and lack of setting like the cx150 in the menu No power ON/OFF setting options for the LCD LCD OPEN = ON LCD CLOSED, Viewfinder Pulled Out = ON LCD CLOSED, Viewfinder Pushed In = OFF Thankgod the Hypeye actually takes over and does control the power. With LCD CLOSED and Viewfinder Pushed In + HYPEYE = ON/OFF Tripod Mount Screw Hole : not centred The Tripod screw is very towards the front left Battery V50 is actually reclused into the body, the V100 is too big so the V70 would be the right size and sit flush with the edge of the view finder. Cookie Boxes Cookie said he not making a box for 550 as its not a popular camcorder. Cookie BOX CX6/7/11/12 76W x 79H x 141L mm CX550 66 x 74 x 143mm The awkward thing about the cx550 is its orientation of the AV-R for the hypeye. The orientation of the half moon has the cable pointing up covering the rec button. So I don't see the point of drilling a hole for the rec button in a box There needs to be some support for the Hypeye Jack as over time im sure this connection will degrade. Lenses really nice having the 37mm thread. I have put a century 0.55 lens on the camcorder. With the camcorders G lens and wider view, I get the same result as the Kenko/Opteka 0.43 without the fisheye A real nice flat image without corners. More Freefly testing this week, Either way its a real nice camcorder. I hope some of this info is of some help Blue warm Skies and Big Puffies Kai Kaiseye
  4. http://www.precisioncamera.com/ has a flat rate of $250, most places are $400, shitty state of affairs cost of repair is higher than new stuff. be green man i have 2 broken ones and one working, will be selling them all at the end of the summer with Rawa Helmet any takers?
  5. can you not glue the OIS, just like the rest? i like the 550 spec better than the 110/150
  6. Im sure this will be a sticky response, but i was researching the copyright agenda and was wondering how to do skydiving business above board aswell. and my interpretation was.. if you are an employee and the employer supplies the equipment/media to create that work, then the employer owns the Copyright but if you are an independent contractor providing your own equipment/media, then you the creator/author retain the copyright. My research came from Employer–Employee Relationship Under Agency Law EDD of CA INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR OR COMMON LAW EMPLOYEE 1976 Copyright Act : Circa 9 any real world copyright lawyer clarify this. Im Independent Contractor (LLC) with all My own Skydiving/Video/Photography Equipment, Supplying all my own blank media, paying rent for a video room in the hangar. Should I not have the copyright? I would welcome a Salary and Health Benefits
  7. MC6 MC10 They both burn SD DVDs via normal AV inputs. ASWELL as burning AVC-HD DVDS via USB. These AVC-HD DVDs can be played in any AVC-HD/Bluray Players as well as Computers, Playstation3 and the Sony DVD Direct MC10. Sony DVD Direct MC6 is the bomb diggity to put it lightly. Pros Super Small, smaller than expected. Custom DVD Menu Background Jpeg via Memory Card DVD contents accessible by Mac and PC friendly The 4th default Background is sky 1min 30secs to finalize Cons No S video Input No Audio Output Monitor Im gonna buy 3 more units, One to burn Video and the other to burn my pics. 2 more just incase they break. Sony DVD Direct MC10 Pros S video Input Outputs for playing Cons Big and bulky not mac friendly cant add custom dvd menu background No Audio Output Monitor Outputs not for Monitoring 5-6mins to finalize The MC10 is just really a glorified player to connect to HDTV via HDMI or Component. The downfall of this unit is that the dvd contents are not readable on a mac, the dvd plays, but the file contents are not accessible, it just makes life harder to copy. And no good for burning Jpegs Data DVDs via the cards slots. I haven’t tested this yet on the MC6, but on MC10 I recorded the video then added the jpegs onto the same DVD, then finalized it. Sweet. I Think these units are great as an alternative to NLE, as most Ops with NLE are still burning SD DVDs, with this one unit I can offer an extra DVD product (yes without music) that is AVC-HD. Or you can Spin it as the “Edit it at Home” feature. I hope this info is useful, researching is expensive Kai
  8. Rickster in Deland has a finished new Dark Blue CCM for sale, just try it on at Deland, and if the glass slipper fits. It could be yours. It has a Neptune connected to LED and Piezo, with Wes Ringsight setup. I would say it fits a Med Head ish. Kai
  9. My settings are with the view finder uncovered. With Canon Rebel Series (not sure about D) the exposure is affected by the metering of light, depending if the the view finder is covered or not. Two Examples. I dont have my viewfinder covered and shoot AV F10, ISO400 exp-2/3 partial metering. I get a TV range of 400,800,1000 =great pics My friend jumps a camera neoprene condom that covers everything. she was getting shitty blurred photos with low shutter speeds shooting on the same settings. Also when i exit the skyvan, my first exit shot was gettin low balled shutter speed, i put it down to it being dark and white/metal walls, but in fact it was because i was standing sideways with my head against the wall. So put your camera on a tripod on a sunny day, take some pictures on the ground at different headings with your thumb covering the view finder and not covering. Some people say its a myth, but its not with canon. Kai
  10. My Goal with GPS logger is for analyzing High Performance Turns under canopy. If I do a slow Front riser 180 turn under canopy, the wintec does well and the ground track on google earth is accurate. But when i do a bigger High Performance turn, with a quick 180 finish under canopy, the wintec ground track goes off course, and gives me negative altitudes during the plane out.
  11. Cool, i wanna know if it gives negative altitudes on landing, like the wintec does. thanks for testing
  12. My Setup Canon Rebel T1i with Tokina 10-17mm Start off on Sports, learn what settings are used on the good photos. Set the focal plane on the ground for eyes of the subject, at the distance you like to fly at. TV mode 1/500sec a very common setting but your depth of field will vary. but i just switched to AV mode F8-F11 with ISO400, Exp -2/3 I also calibrated my laptop screen and have the brightness on 50% cool Iphone app and web site : DOF master http://www.dofmaster.com/ Kai Wishes Apple and Sony would be friends
  13. The MAIN thing is WE charge (we the video monkeys)(we the sub contractors set OUR rates) Change is Bloody Expensive, and things break. We got a raw deal when most dz's transferred to digital stills from 35mm at no extra charge/complimentary stills package. (BS!) Im hoping to introduce the following extra features/services for a fee this summer (there are still some kinks in my vision) Extra Copies of DVDs (Duplicator Standalone Unit) AVCHD DVD's using the Sony Direct DVD MC6 Burner with custom DVD Backgorund Menu, the MC10 as the player to a HDTV via HDMI H.264 Video web Hosting 4"x6" Quality Jpeg Pictures on a CD with a Personal Use License.txt Online Picture Gallery with ecommerce storefront to Order Larger Prints/Merchandise/Hi Res Jpegs with Personal Use or Commercial Use License Edit it yourself at Home Video File I had this idea of using a small ipod with a mic and a switcher for audio input into the mic input as i record, but now the camcorders dont have mic input im still working on how to record a royalty free upbeat background music, but somebody mentioned the CX150 you can use a mp3 on the camcorder card. My Breakdown of my Fee $20 Gear Rental/ Danger Money(Plane/Freefall/Landing Area) $5 packjob $15 Video Creation/Video Investment $10 Video Edit Post Production $15 Still Creation/Still Investment $10 Jpeg CD Burn Its nice to make money so I can have good safe gear, and produce the highest quality product, I have seen the other end of the spectrum and its not doing our sport any good. I hope what I write is read in a positive productive manner
  14. I did some asking around at Deland, especially Rickster. I wanted a copy of the CD, but he said his son took his computer and not heard from him since. It seems the Legacy of Wes Products are for the lucky few who met him and got a CCM. I wish I met him in time. If any one can make a flash bracket like his, please PM me, otherwise I will order some expensive material from Dragonplate, and make a Bunch Blue warm Skies Kai
  15. Just my thoughts and understanding from photography forums. the Sigma is the poorest glass quality from the list below. Canon being the best. Canon 10-22mm (wide angle) Tokina 11-16mm (hard to find) (wide angle) Tokina 10-17mm ( a popular choice now for tandems) (fisheye) Sigma 15mm (old skool popular choice for tandems) http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/digital-wide-zooms/chart.htm
  16. I want a CX550v soooo bad with bells and whistles Okay you camcorder surgeons, OIS lowdown Is this correct? You glue the magnets = 20 second start up (is this the power on, or when you hit the record button?) You get the error code from the magnets being glued or the circuit being disconnected? Someone on a thread in Stockholm stated from europe sony that its possible to remove the OIS without error code or startup issues. Anyone got a result from USA sony and a location? My thoughts........................ Keep the magnets free to move but physically disconnect the effect to the OIS lens, Physically lock down the OIS lens plate to frame/mount OR disconect the circuit, connect something else that give ok signal and glue the magnets. OR remove the OIS unit completelty (but does the lens being missing effect the balance of the system?) So i need any old Sony CX OIS camcorder that may be broken to I can practice the surgery first before I hack the CX550v open. Blue Warm Skies Finally in Florida Kai
  17. Im lost without Wes, was waiting for this winter to be in Deland for a new flash setup. So now im hunting old products down, that CD would be awesome. http://www.home.earthlink.net/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://home.earthlink.net/~rimworld/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/v001.jpg&target=tlx_new&title=CCM%20with%20camera%20Half%20Cases%20and%20Flash%20Half%20Case Is the Schumacher guy out West doing CF brackets?
  18. Its been bugging me looking for an Anti Twist Pin (aka VHS Pin, VHS Location Pin) I found Novoflex Video plate QPL-Video has a nice simple screw idea, (Scroll down on link, near bottom) http://www.novoflex.com/en/products/camera-support-systems/quick-release-systems/qbase/ i dont know why the skydiving quick release mounts dont include this obvious option. Bravo to ZKULLS for addressing the problem Also these skydiving QR seem to have a little bit of give and shake between mount and plate.
  19. Sooooo..... Is this summary Correct? Sony Products with, OIS = Optical I.S. - No good for Skydiving EIS = Electronic (SteadyShot) I.S. - Is Good for Skydiving The Sony CX Summary lineup CX110 / CX150 - EIS , 1/4 R Cmos, T lens, 30mm Filter Dia, No Remote CX300 / CX350 - OIS, 1/4 R Cmos, G lens, 30mm Filter Dia, REMOTE CX500/ CX520 / CX550 - OIS, 1/2.8 R Cmos, G lens, 37mm Filter Dia, REMOTE Any USA CX Models I may have missed? YEY the remote is back :) Does this mean slowmotion is back for exits/deployment, rewind and play? How about giving us back Overlap, Wipe, Flash, Old Movie Effects? I have the Sony DVDirect MC10 Multi-Function DVD Recorder on way. Im hoping to be able to change the DVD Menu Background JPEG to my own Photo-shopped Version for Skydiving. Any one done this? and hopefully a version with HDMI input will be next. Kai (A recent Forum Virgin) PS : Skydive Deland Expo in March
  20. Im also interested in GPS data for swooping and wingsuit. Its seems to be wintec 201 or Garmnin Foretrek 201,301 or 401. I was told not the 401, because it has barometric, which will mess up data, vertical speeds. I aslo have a Mac, will the wintec work with a Mac? Any advice, Loudiamond? you seem to know the ins and outs. Blue skies Kai
