  1. Meh. I don't have enough jumps. I think I was thinking of the Hog Flop or something... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  2. I dunno but my calendar just totally changed and I am free the 7th-9th as well. So I'll probably just go then. I think there's also boogie somewhere that I wanted to go to that weekend. Life is good. They said they needed 4 people to send the basket if that helps. Dunno the cost but doesn't really matter, I just wanna jump a balloon. :) www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  3. Yeh, they told me sunrise *and* sunset, if they get enough people (4). www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  4. I seem to recall reading a record swoop speed (horizontal) of 70+ mph. Maybe this is bad logic, but I would think to get that fast horizontal, you'd probably be going faster in the dive. But then again the dive isn't completely vertical... (I don't know a thing about swooping...) www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  5. Not intending to steal any thunder from the Bytch Boogie, but I had a small idea... Nov. 2-9 there is a possibility of balloon jumps (sunrise/sunset) at Lake Wales if they have enough people interested... you have to sign up in advance I think. I was planning on going on the 2nd and the 9th as those are the only two days I can make it... but then I heard about the boogie. Balloon jumps and boogies are BOTH beer for me, and even though I have really wanted to do a balloon jump for a long time, I decided to come to the boogie instead since I can still probably make LW on the 9th. BUT... a friend suggested I post here and see if any of you guys are interested in a sunset balloon jump at LW on the 2nd, sort of like a field trip from the BB... again I am not intending to steal any thunder from the boogie so I hope this isn't a bad suggestion. But if there are people interested in that, I'd be more than happy to offer transportation from Seb... although it would probably require you riding in the back of my truck, and considering how I drive, that might actually give you a chance to prove the fallacy that you're more likely to die on the highway than in a skydive. Anyway, just an idea. If no one bites I'm more than happy to stay at the BB until the end of Sunday night (assuming it goes that long) and try for the balloon on the 9th... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  6. Yeh, you're probably right. In case you didn't know it, the shot is from this short. Checkitout checkitout checkitout... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  7. You've already received two good answers, but here is one more thing to chew on. Keep in mind that weight AND surface area both come into play determining how fast you fall through the atmosphere. A similar question you could ask yourself to gauge your understanding... why does deploying a parachute slow you down from 120mph to almost nothing? You haven't added or removed any weight, have you? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  8. Ahh, I finally understand why the word cork is used. :) The first time I heard it I thought the people were saying "torque". Heh... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  9. What scares me is that if you do get it replaced, they'll probably resell the other one, after repair, as new. I guess I shouldn't say probably since I really have no idea, it just scares me that that is possible and you'd have no way of knowing. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  10. ??? I'm assuming flying the suit for three mins gets your thumbs tired or something... hoping "dislocated" was an exaggeration. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  11. I found 11 male replies, 7 female. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  12. More lucky than you can imagine... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. That is amazing. And I get yelled at for jumping in 15mph. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. I didn't want to post this in the other thread about brake line stowage because it is a more general question, but somewhat related. So I have a new rig on order and went with Slinks for both main and reserve. Honestly, I don't know what the benefit of a Slink is. I'll be perfectly honest and admit they looked cool and were advertised all over PD's webpage, and I'd noticed them on some of the "newer" looking rentals I jumped, so I assumed they must be the next big thing. What exactly do they provide that a hard link doesn't? I think I heard that they are more "reusable"... but I don't plan on swapping canopies often. If I do get them on my main I will certainly take great care in making sure they set right and I always stow my brakelines properly (RWS makes that easy). Bigger question... what is more common ("better"... a horrible word to use on subjective topics) for a reserve? It seems to me if I never see my reserve until its first use, it will be hard to guarantee the Slinks are set properly. Or to make sure my brakelines are stowed right, though I would obviously have to trust that to my rigger like everything else. Is there a benefit to getting "regular" links with a reserve? Honestly I can't even think of what regular (what is regular?) links look like since the rental I've been using for a while has Slinks. Any opinions are welcome... I hope this isn't old material... couldn't find much info on this topic. Thanks. EDIT: P.S. I have no desire to pull my slider down past the toggles... I jumped a demo once with Slinks and no SRC's and the slider kept coming down to the unstowed toggle ends and basically screwing up my flight. Kinda annoying/scary. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  15. My intent was not to flame... but back on topic... I still agree with Mike that if you are too low to cutaway then cutting the lineover is vaild. I agree with you that you *shouldn't* ever be that low, but I think we can all agree that many things happen in skydiving which shouldn't. He was simply saying that is the only situation he would justify snipping a main line on, and I think I agree... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. Actually, he said he WOULDN'T use his hook knife on his main unless he was too low to cutaway. I had a hard time understanding your post (especially the first sentence... though I think you're implying that Mike is wrong, yet you then go on to agree with him), and I'm not sure WTF you're talking about when you refer to a "main reserve." Unless you have backup reserves... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. Damn I'd like to... but I only have A lic... Oh and Andrea, you can add me to the list. :) (I met you at DeLand in the packing hangar a few weeks ago...) www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. That's the kind of complacency that kills. I'll bet you're one of those know-it-all anglers with between 200-500 catches. Think you know everything and can do no wrong. You're a risk to yourself, our sport, and your fellow anglers. Godspeed my friend, you'll need it... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. Your verbage makes it sound like your goal is to get them all... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  20. 2000N is a force. /trying to hijack another thread www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  21. WTF? I don't know whether to laugh or cry... Make fun of skydivers or BASE jumpers all you want, but at least they're trying to achieve something noble - human flight. As a child, I know I never dreamed about catching fish... I dreamed about flying. And now I'm learning. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  22. WTF is angling? All I could find was some sort of fishing... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  23. I made 23 jumps (no license, not even close) then took a 4 year break. When I went back to DeLand the manifest girl told me I would have to pay $275 and take a FJC again (several hour ground school, I think she even wanted me to jump with two instructors). When I got there an instructor recognized me and told me he could hook me up with much better. He gave me a regular $72 recert. Like a 30 minute ground school reviewing emergency procedures, gear, freefall, canopy flight, etc. Then I did a level 7 dive with him and it went perfect. I was surprised how quickly freefall skills came back to me, I was never unstable. Canopy skills sucked though for the first few jumps. That's just how it worked for me. I think I lucked out because the instructor was familiar with my abilities. Try to go back to the DZ/instructor you learned at maybe? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  24. Mailin? Jump? Wha? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  25. Saddle Creek. If I'm not mistaken they sell all their CD's for $10 or so, and they sell T-shirts for dirt cheap too. Not to mention Bright Eyes and Cursive are two of the best indie rock bands in existence right now, if you're into that kind of music. If you want a one-song offering to test the waters, try "Art is Hard" by Cursive or "Method Acting" by Bright Eyes. The Faint plays awesome 80's retro. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
