  1. interesting...... must have been bogus stolen gear.... . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  2. Well, it's suspicious.... They're selling the jumpsuit and helmet or frap hat as a set. The jumpsuits look older than one YO. The model doesn't fit the jumpsuits. Who would sell that on craigslist? Ebay would be better for that type of stuff. It looks like jumpsuits may be from 3 different people. If it's legit ok, but if it's stolen then maybe the owner can see it and get it back. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  3. http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/spo/3616064537.html I ran across this the other day. It looks suspicious to me. Already checked with USSOCOM Parachute Team. They wore RW&B jumpsuits a long time ago. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  4. I know of two people that have done that in the past. I don't know if they still do. Send me an email at aerosoftware_AT_makeithappen.com for info. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  5. Contact the Nevada Airlift Group. They were selling those at PIA, seemed to be priced ok and the flooring met all FAA requirements. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

  8. The Sportations people are the same people that operate under 1800SkyRide. The short story is that 'you are fucked'. The long story is that you can file complaints with - state DA - state BBB - GA DA - because of their previous case FMI see links on funjumper.com The quickest way I have seen these issues resolved is to use the local tv station consumer reports advocate. These people have cost me $8000.00. I didn't even buy any of their tickets. But I defended the perspective of the consumer, namely you and others, in a court case and it cost $8000 for my attorney. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  9. Cool! Thanks, Jan. Not that I wish to start a discussion on the merits of the grid again ... blah blah blah... Just sayin'. Yeah I know the grid system is really funky. Let's find something that is better and work towards implementing that. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  10. I have officially judged and signed off this record. Derrick & Brian have the (electronic version of the) paperwork. Congratulations to everyone involved. Nice work. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

  12. Thank you for the effort, Jan, but I view this as training people how to arrange deck chairs on a ship heading for an iceberg. There is a fundamental flaw in the current judging protocol that has nothing to do with the way judges interpret it; the reasons have been discussed at length already. John, I agree that the current rules will be replaced by something better very soon. But the current rules are on the books and if you want a record recognized by those rules, the judges have to abide by those rules. On top of all this, there is no official WS judge designation by USPA. There is no USPA judge rating that uses technical skills to scale two images (the formation & the gird) relative to each other. This is what I want to teach people about. In that process, people will realize the deficiencies of the grid method. They will ask, isn't there another way to do this??. . . 13. Actually, the proper way to oversee this is with a jury system. There is an already existing jury system in place. I have contacted the USPA President, among others, about this. I hope to hear by the end of today that an impartial jury will be convened to re-assess the validity of the record in question. Oh and BTW, if anyone is interested in participating in a prototype WS judge rating program on Sept 15 & 16 at Perris, please let me know. This would be based on the current grid rules of USPA. 14. I don't get that either????????? . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  15. Mike, you missed a motion that BJ created to actually change the rules. (even after all his lamenting about not changing rules midstream) End result is that 2 more of the 4 candidates that were previously flagged on 'current membership' issues are on the list of candidates. . . 16. Actually, this change is the wrong solution to the problem. The problem is that Is are not filling in the card correctly and signing it off incorrectly. The solution - you'd think - would be to address this issue with the Is, thru the Professional newsletter, Parachutist, S&TA meetings, RDs talking to DZOs etc. The Is are the ones making life difficult for HQ. The Is should have the 'your performance needs improvement' talk. Nope - that's not how it went. HQ said that they wanted everyone with a A card to be mandated to send it in to get an 'official number'. They further said that the card would only be good for a short time. Oh yeah - you owe us some money to check the work of your I. That's why I voted against this motion. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  17. [reply Curious though, can someone explain how that would violate the TSO of the rig being worn? I don't get that part of the discussion. I don't see it as a TSO violation either. You can go look at that recent SL military re-enactment jump and say that they had their cutaway mechanisms hidden too. I don't care how many jumps you have or what kind of MadSkills you have, jumping with your emergency handle hidden away because of accessory equipment is just plain stupid. . . 20. Excuse me.... Paul, your reading comprehension needs improvement. Both Mike and I said that 16 & 17 yo can jump without a FB waiver. I mentioned that the FB waiver is needed for under 16 yo. Mike did not address that issue. The only thing that Mike said, that I disagree with was that at one time, many years ago, the BSRs read 'age of majority'. . . 21. Mike, I know you think you're right, but the USPA BSRs say otherwise (which would be important if a drop zone is claiming to "follow all USPA & FAA Rules and Regulations."). Specifically, 2-1 D. It says; Source: http://www.uspa.org/SIM/Read/Section2/tabid/164/Default.aspx#21d That [FB] means it's waiverable, but only by the Full Board, not the individual drop zones themselves. Source: http://www.uspa.org/SIM/Read/Section2/tabid/164/Default.aspx#22b And that's not opinion, that's fact, chapter and verse. What that means is that 16 & 17 yo can jump without a waiver from the FB. If you what to jump under 16 yo then you need a FB waiver. to my knowledge - none. At one time circa 1960's the age restriction read 'age of legal majority'. (as published in Parachutist) . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  22. How did you make this conclusion? Because of all the stuff I learned in math and physics and knowing first hand that a dive and flatten out track can get to a point faster than a flat track. . What stuff that you learned supports that? How do you know diving first gets you to a point faster? I am not going to list all the courses I've taken in math and physics. Least time concepts are taught in both math and physics classes. Perhaps, the most widely known one is Fermat's principle. Stick a fork into a glass of water and learn what the index of refraction means. Please see the attached figure to illustrate the point. You want to go from point A to point B. The least time solution is to do a steep dive and then flatten out ( path 2 ). The speed along path 2 is faster such that you beat the speed along path 1. The other path ( path 1 ) takes longer but it achieves the desired results of positioning jumpers such that they can see each other and ensure horizontal separation while reducing the possibility that one jumper is pulling underneath another jumper. A flat track done by all jumpers in the group is safer for breakoff. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

  24. The steep track then flatten out path is the 'least time' path (as you know from physics or math classes). However, the idea is to get separation and know where your nearest neighbors are at deployment time. If someone does the dive type track they will reach deployment altitude first. (as you correctly note), but other jumpers will be over that person just as the steep tracker decides to pull. That scenario has a very high probability of collision. It is severely frowned upon to do steep tracks. Flat tracks are better because you can keep your nearest neighbors in sight, gain horizontal separation from them and do not have one person opening under another person. It does take a little bit longer to reach the assigned deployment altitude with a flat track, but we are not in a race to get to that destination. We are creating a specific pattern and positioning of jumpers so that they have the lowest probability of collision. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
