  1. Hi Erno The sizing chart that we use on our website is intended as a guide ONLY, and is partially based on wingloading factors when it comes to "recommending" canopy sizes for student, intermediate and advanced skydivers. As an advanced skydiver, it is ultimately your choice of whatever size you want really, and if you choose to get a reserve smaller than a 150, that is your decision - it just means that you will be loading the canopy more than 1.3 As a manufacturer, it is not up to us to dictate to you what size reserve you should or should not have in your container, but we will make informed recommendations that take your safety into account - especially when it comes to new jumpers in the sport. 2. Hi Jim, both the Icon and Mirage are great rigs in all respects, with many similar and different features on both. Demo both of them and have a good look at the way they are built, comfort and fit, customer service etc. Talk to local skydivers who own an Icon or Mirage, find out what they think of their gear. The Icon is pretty damn advanced in terms of it's asthetic and safety features, and does come standard with a number of items that other companies charge extra for. All in all, it's very good value for $$$$, looks great, is supa comfortable, packed with features and as many people now know, comes with a very good back up service from Aerodyne. Contact Aubrey at Aerodyne research [email protected] and he will get you sorted with a demo. Blue skies! 3. What container do you have, and what type and size reserve is in there at the moment? Have you already got the canopy, or is it still on order? If it is still on order, talk to your distributor who you ordered it from, then you may very well be able to change it to one of our other sizes... Aerodyne also makes a 110 and a 99 Smart, so if the 120 is just slightly too big, the 110 may be the way to go. If you have any other queries, please get in touch with us. blue skies! 4. Hi Blindbrick The Student Icon's are manufactured and configured in such a way that you can actually use them as both student and sport rigs depending on the requirement. With this being the standard way of doing it, and reading your comment about NOT wanting anything that resembles a student rig, we can help you with this no prob - in fact this will not be the first time that we have facilitated this request to have a pure sport system built in the container size of the student S8 Icon. Should you wish to order this system, I would suggest contacting Aubrey, Bushman, Nick or Carolyn at Aerodyne Research (or your favorite Aerodyne distributor) and talking to them about it as it will just mean adding in some special instructions such as including the hip ring harness, no cypres window on the reserve flap etc... If you have any other queries, please feel free to contact us. 5. Hey, hows it going During TSO certification, the minimum pull force required of the reserve handle cannot be less than 5lbs and the maximum not more than 22lbs. There are a couple different reasons that may cause the pull force to exceed the 22lbs max. - The closure loop may be too short - Dirty cable housing - The seal thread has been routed around more than once (breaking strength of one strand is about 2.75lbs) - Pulling the reserve handle with the rig on the ground and not over your shoulders will cause the pull force to be higher as well. It would be interesting to know what type of reserve and size the canopies were , and into which size Icons they were packed into. This could also be a contributing factor as well if they were larger reserves going into smaller Icons. Please feel free to contact any of the Aerodyne guys and we'll look into this for you asap. Thanks and blue skies! Dave AERODYNE SYSTEMS (PTY) Ltd Dave Macrae - Sports Marketing: Indian Ocean Region [email protected] www.aerodyne-int.com
  6. For a 'Krap rig' it has a lot more features designed to make you safer than your rig Mike Sure, there are some awesome rigs on the market that look better than others, but most of the time this is based on individual preference as to what looks good and what doesn't - your opinion is gonna be different to a lot of others, and vice versa. To make a rig look its best though, it has to be packed properly and symmetrically. If you have uneven bulk in the deployment bag, you will see it immediately as the rig will not close normally, ie, grommet exposure, skew flaps etc. And that applies to every rig I have ever seen... As far as being a glorified NARO goes, next time you at the dz, have a good look at a naro and then have an even better look at the nearest Icon - spot the difference? Like the articulated harness, zero velcro, internal riser covers, miniforce 3 ring system, link stop panels, cut in backpad etc. Sure, the Icon comes from the same factory that built Naro's, but the Vector 3 Micron for example comes from the same factory that built the wonderhog many years ago - do you also think the Micron is a glorified wonderhog? At the end of the day, every manufacturer builds on their previous designs and incorporates the good things & takes out the not-so-good things when designing and releasing new versions and product into the market. bs, dave.
