  1. Hi people, Before posting this, I've searched for an equivalent post in the forum, without success. So excuse me if this is a pretty common post. Here's the prob: My freefall speed (on belly) is usually between 120 mph to 130 mph. This year (due to 5 added pounds of dear fat), I tend to fall at 130 mph. While coaches don't have any problem following me and working amusing RW stuff, a bit more than half of my collegues have problems following me. In reality, they can follow, but their body position is usually quite altered and their ability to do RW moves is hindered. I try slowing down as I've been teached, but without much success (can't get really lower than 115 mph). Solutions? Of course, I'll start loosing the extra weight . Would adding "sleeves" to my forearms really slow me down? How many mph could I expect ? My jumpsuit is a Tony Suit "swoop suit with a little bit of slack (not totally tight) but spandex arms (stupid move during ordering). Height 5'11', weight 190 lb. Coaches usually find my freefall speed ok. Is it normal that novices like myself and some friends are more sensible to weight/projected area differences? 2. Hi all, Here's my stupidity: I was jumping in Bellefeuille (Quebec, Canada) with a huge-ass 260 square feet (normaly 210). The jump went well (practicing saltos and tracking , 23 rd jump). Then under a perfect canopy, I look at the winds at about 1000. Began the final approach while realizing I'm moving really fast. Landed in the bushes without getting hurt, except for the fact that I looked like a dummy. What happened : I landed downwind with knowing it. I though I had checked the winds at 1000 but it looks like I mislook or forgot the wind direction. I landed in the "usual" direction. What I should have done : - Look at the winds before getting in the plane. I was rushed so I forgot. - Take a better look at the winds and how people land before I do. I got lucky and the bushes were really welcoming. What would have happened if I was jumping the usual 210 or 190 I'm planning to jump in the near future? 3. Thanks for the advice all! I've chosen blue near the legs and butt in case I fall. For the white portion, I have no choice since the suit must reflect Quebec's FLag (white and blue). Anyway, thx for the advice all. Number 1 was sent to tony suit this morning... Can I close the thread? "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. 4. I might get flamed for this, but I'm about to spend 550$ CAN on this so I need some hints. I'm not in touch enough with the "women" (fortunately) in me so I don,t know jack about choosing right colors... "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. 5. Hi people, I have 20 jumps and I'm looking foward to do 40-60 jumps this summer (starting to get more serious in the sport). I need a relative jumpsuit. Of course, the pit special caught my attention. Is it an expert suit ? Am I going for an overkill? Should I start with something cheaper? (I have the money for the suit, that is not problem). Which options should I choose? Note: For freefly, I'll buy another suit if needed. Thanks "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. 6. Deal is now 100$ Can (70$ US) "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. And when Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset....people DIE!!!"
  7. Hi people, I have an offer for a Robnik Sapphire altimeter (125$ CAN, good condition). 1: Is this a good altimeter, it is shitty? 2: Is it a good deal Thanks "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. And when Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset....people DIE!!!"
  8. A sect symbol. Very funny indeed... "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. And when Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset....people DIE!!!"
  9. 1: When there are too many tandems in the ride and the regulars get bumped... 2: Winds just pick up when I park my car in the DZ. 3: Winds go down when I leave the DZ 5 minutes later. 10. Had my first line twist, 20 th jump past weekend... It was almost fun (forgiving student rigs). Still dunno why it happened (stable body position at deployment). Anyway, I'll be more worried when I'll (maybe) have a stilleto + line twist. "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. 11. From what I hear France isn't that advanced. Just a step up from being a third world country. _____________________________________________ They may not all drive in Yukons and all have their gas at a ridiculous price like the US, but France is far from being a "step up from a third world country". If you would look past what CNN (Bush Channel) tells you, you would see the beauty of this country and its people. And they might be able to teach you about some "savoir-vivre" in your relations with other countries. They have state provided health care and the university over there is free (but they have a higher tax rate). They are FAR from being ignorant. If you're laughing because old people die due to high temperature, I would point out that you guys have casualties each time there is a small snow fall in the eastern states (5 cm of snow). It's sad but it makes us smile a bit in Québec (Canada). Is the US a third world country because 10 people die per day due to snow? No, because the people who died were not used to driving into snow (no winter tires or good driving habits, etc). So is France a third world country because they lost 30 old people due to heat? No, they are not used to your year-round hot temperature seen in texas. "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. 14. Except if you were working in a topless bar (joke), I don't think it's legal... Do an inquiry with the government. Good luck with a new job! As for Yvan, any Jedi is technically unemployed since they are not allowed to acquire possessions (money)... So don't worry about your "status" Women that are managers often have difficulty being fair with their male employees. "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. 15. Impressive (the airplane nose grab) But not very smart... with a rotating propeller on the other side...a small wind gust is all you need to send someone to a shredding prop. 16. 10 jumps for a 10 level course (it is longer here in Bellefeuille, Québec) Almost failed level 4 (3 X uncontrolled 360, but stopped the spin and did a controlled 360 with an "eureka" smile my instructor laughed about). But don't worry, for example, I'm trying the rear salto and I've wasted 4 jumps so far. (I stop my salto to late so I do more than a 360). 17. Hi gang, sorry again, I have a question... For those who saw Imax Adrenaline Rush, I'm looking for a song which is named "I touch the sky". Unfortunately, I've searched with winmx and kazaa without success. There are multiple songs with this title, but none is the one I'm searching for. Can you please give the artist name. Thanks in advance... "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. And when Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset....people DIE!!!"
  18. Degree in mechanical engineering (Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada) Going to McGill (Montréal, Canada) for a master's in applied sciences (M. Ing or M. Sc. A) I'm surprised that there are a lot of university graduates. "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. And when Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset....people DIE!!!"

  21. Did my first dusk/night jump (9h00 pm in Canada, no sun left but the sky wasn't totally dark). Like Neo would say : Woa! Seeing the city lights (Bellefeuille and St-Jérôme in Québec) is amazing. I was supposed to practice saltos but when I faced the city I was totally hypnotized and went down watching the lights. Poped at 5000 instead of 4000 for an extra minute of scenery. It wasn't a real night jump because I could still see my canopy and the other ones faintly. What an amazing sight though! I can only imagine the sheer beauty of a total night jump. The cars were placed on the landing area. One weird thing: the wind picked pretty fast (there was no wind at takeoff and I went up in 25 min.). Anyway, sorry for getting excited and wasting your time on this post, I'm just a newbie discovering the joys of this sport. Can't wait to jump again in darkness. 22. The statistics themselves don't lie. The conclusions you make from them can... Don't worry about my maths skills, university courses made me suffer. For the "remote casualties" for the tandem, I read a report (2001 or 2000, sorry for not remembering the year) showing about 30 deaths in the USA for one year. None of them, if I remember correctly, was a tandem jump. Now I can see the flames coming. Of course, the people dying are people that are taking the risk many times. So maybe the probability of dying in one jump is the same then for the one-time tandem jumper. Anyway, more tips anyone? Let's try to keep this thread about tips and prevent it from degenerating into a big statistical debate. If you want to discuss about statistics, let's start a new forum thread in the safety section. I would gladly learn more about skydiving statistics, hoping I won't become one. "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. And when Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset....people DIE!!!"
  23. Thanks for the tips Please don't write anything more on "not forcing them" or "lying about security". I was not going to "force them" (physically or by harassment). I was simply joking... As for security, it is certain that this sport is dangerous and that there is a death probability...Like scuba diving, hang gliding or ultra light airplanes. So why not jump...! But people don't listen to statistics and I think it is a very good thing. Statistics can be twisted into lies and your brain doesn't freaking care about the statistics when the door opens for the first time. (Sorry for the "going down with the chute is safer than landing with the airplane", I was mislead by someone). However, what I meant is, for a one-time tandem jumper, the probability of death seems remote. I'm not saying "hurray skydiving is safe, I don't need to make my rig checks anymore ". I'm talking about people that are interested, and are asking me questions, but won't make the trip to the DZ when it is time. Thanks for the tip about the video, I'll try to get one from my DZ.
