  1. In General, Does the WS do the buzzing with the canopys forward motion i.e. approach from the back Or are some people buzzing from the front ? No, Not without incident
  2. It probably because you are using a knee to turn ala RW instead of the foot. push one foot down(keeping leg wing taut) and you should turn the opposite way No, Not without incident
  3. You should have the GPS locked on while in the boarding area - then when you get on the plane, you need to be beside a window and just prop it up there until jumprun. I put it on my wrist (garmin) and hold my hand along the windows as I move down the plane. When I am hanging on the door, just punch the start button with my teeth and off I go. 4. If you work on achieving distance more than slow fall rates, the speed will come down on its own. Some tips : 1) Your legs are most likely not straight - even if you think they are. When flying, look down your chest to your feet and knees and check them out - now straighten them out. This will usually make you feel like you are tipping headdown ( now than you are using all of your leg wing ) you should notice an increase in speed. 2) Punch on the arms to stretch them out. forget the rolling cupping of the shoulders, make the wing flat in profile and dont have it ballooning up in a semi-circle - this should level you out from the tipping over from point 1 above my 2 cents on a GTI No, Not without incident
  5. about 70 WS jumps and no reserve chops yet though I have had an rough opening with a couple of line twists throw me into a spiraling tailspin which popped a brake toggle. However as I generally dump at 4500 and have my arms unzipped before the canopy is fully inflated, it was just a matter of stopping the spin with the rear riser and then giving the risers a good shove to spin out the twists while I went back into a diving spin - kinda gyroscopic spinning on 2 axis. When twist were undone re-grab riser and pop other toggle. Its a fun ride but you do need some altitude to do it P.t.L No, Not without incident
  6. Well, I look for the big white puffy ones. If its a big black anvil of a thundercloud, I'm staying away No, Not without incident
  7. LMAO, I'll tell her though It wont have been the first time she's heard it - esp from the boyfriend, same for the tail flapping Talking of hand signals, I was trying a few of my own with Scary P ( see photo ) his face was priceless as he was'nt used to some of the Ranch signals No, Not without incident
  8. Yea, I was listening to Perry say this and it intrigued me. Its something I'd like to try and see how well it works. I also ended up high on the 8 way as I was right on your ass out the door but elected to fly dirty with very little wing showing to the wind to get down to the main group And SimonM - yes we put people out floating like RW-ers. Outside ,Its not hard as long as the wings are kept closed. No, Not without incident
  9. No, its from an otter, for up to 3/4 people, its pretty easy for everyone to take float positions outside the plane at the door. You want the forward person peeling off a small bit ahead of the person behind him so you dont catch burble. The thing to realise is that the front person will be behind and lower than the last person. When doing the 8 way. four of us were inside tight up against the outside 4 floaters and launched with them. No, Not without incident
  10. I had a great weekends flying with Scary P. Flying on da Back is Hard. Watching Scary P. zoom around on his back ( even at plane launch ) had me attempting it. Man, what a disaster, I believe I was close to head down more than on my back and my arm zippers came partially undone on both sides. I shot video of Scary P. on his back to study and got a boatload of advice from him but I have a mountain to climb. However, if anyone has tips on backflying on a new GTI, I am all ears Speaking of mountains, I also managed to over fly a towering 5000ft cumulo nimbus, 180 degree tail turn over it and surf down the edge for a full 5000ft like a surfer catching a wave - One of the best dives I have ever had and my camera was along for the ride. PtL Some pictures from the Weekend http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1145296;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread No, Not without incident
  11. I was there again this weekend to hook up with Scary P. He put quite a few new birds in the air at the weekend and when he was'nt doing that I was jumping with him, usually in 3 ways. This dude is an awesome flyer on his back, able to launch from the plane that way and fly right up underneath you in flight. He got some great photos, though the best cloud formation we 'skimmed, where both our shadows were on this valley in the clouds, turned out the camera had switched off on jump run. Anyhow heres a few shots, there were others in the air, its just I happened to bring a few of me in this morning. P.t.L P.S. I did 3 and 4 ways with Perry the previous weekend. 12. Just to add - like anytime you plan to try anything new to you in skydiving, seek advice from your instructors, mentors and S&TA's about it. I dont believe once you are prepared that it is inherently dangerous but it definitely is not a normal canopy ride if you have'nt recieved some training and done it before. That said, I encourage people to ask their instructors about this manouver and try it on a regular large square canopy. P.T.L P.S. Looking at the poll, it seems the majority of people claim to have done it. This does not jibe with my personal experience in skydiving No, Not without incident
  13. Got to agree with this. I think newer flyers try to focus on float to improve their hang times in a wingsuit. This has them riding around in a stall emulating a round parachute type of manouver. Concentrate on distance and the times will go up on their own. PtL No, Not without incident
  14. Yo Jonny, lets both take our xfire2's up and collapse them - might make some interesting video. PtL No, Not without incident
  15. I get around 2:25 exiting at 14000 ft and shutting down at 4500 ft This is a standard run with two 90 Degree turns. I'm 6ft and 160lbs without gear. However flocking tends to lower it to around 1:45-2:00 PtL No, Not without incident
  16. Hmmm... I have done stalls on squares with toggles but I have'nt tried the rear riser stall on my xfire2 though now I want to
  17. Just curious, as it used to be a basic canopy exercise By a dynamic stall, I mean to the point you completely collapse the canopy, kinda fall backward into a semi freefall and re-inflate. Elliptical is used in the sense of a minimum high performance mark P.S. common wisdom is not to try this on an elliptical re: cutaway Though I'd love to hear from any trepidacious souls who may have tried it No, Not without incident
  18. Only caveat is that they are all SF3's Not exactly the best suit to start dipping your toes in wingsuit flying with. P.t.L. No, Not without incident
  19. Well I do. I got them on my new G4 last summer and love them for the convenience. No hopping around trying to get in to your rig. I also wingsuit quite a bit and its great taking the legstraps off after landing without having to remove the wingsuit. It is seen as a bit old school but will probably some day in the future come back into vogue. P.t.L No, Not without incident
  20. Hope you gods of flocking can fit a GTI-ier in among you. P.T.L No, Not without incident
  21. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> That is a case where a thin Type 8 chest strap is too loose in the buckle. No, I had the wide chest strap with two elastics, its just that if I tightened the strap comfortably to where the shoulder straps were perpendicular to my shoulders, the rig could slowly work itself down off my shoulders. As a rule, I would cinch the chest strap real tight to where the shoulder straps bent in like an hour glass shape(nowadays they're cut into that shape). It only ever happened once, that I left it loose enough for it to work itself down. ..And once was enough P.t.L No, Not without incident
  22. A GTI with a LQRS. As I said I have had 3/4 twists before and the canopy flew straight while I untwisted. This was the other end of the twist outcome spectrum. PtL No, Not without incident
  23. These studies were done on a cross section of college students not morons/retards/etc... Your attitude to information seems to be of the 'I dont accept what I dont like' school. You claim to be safe and heads up yet show a remarkable ability to discount anything said to you - online at least. No, hmm... interesting or well let me just imagine they have a point. Then the height of hubris, just discount a scientific study because it seems to profile you too closely and highlights your blind spots/Inadequacies to a T. I count my blessings you are someone elses problem P.t.L No, Not without incident
  24. Sunday, my chute opened up at 4300ft in twists. Not a big deal as I have had twists before and the canopy flies straight as I unravel. However this time as I was untwisting, it started diving towards the ground in a tail spin. I took a look(not easy) at the brake line to see if I had a toggle fire but it looked fine. However I was face down parallel to the ground in a rapid spin. I again tried to look at the whole canopy to see what the hell was wrong with it and went to reach for the rear riser to halt the turn. oops, arm will only reach shoulder high, grap harness at shoulder with both hands and hang all my weight onto one side and again get a look at the canopy - wtf looks fine and my alti is dialling through 2200 ft. Cutaway in now looking like my option except I decide to give one more effort before 1800ft hard deck. let go the harness, unzip one arm and grab rear riser in one smooth motion and haul on it canopy, it zips out of the spin. However I am at 1900ft and not sure if the canopy is flyable even though it looks ok. I let go the riser, it flys straight as I unzip the other arm and then I decide the canopy is fine after a quick flare check. However, by the time I unzip etc..I am not going to make it back to the DZ so I land off in a field. Lesson learned, taking an assessment of my performance, I see now, I should haved pulled the arm cutaway immediately to reach for the riser. I am glad to have had that extra altitude to handle the emergency. As you usually hear with this kind of thing it all happened quite fast. I almost regard that jump as my second cutaway. Canopy was a xfire2 139 loaded at ~1.3 However I cranked my neck and lower back a bit with the straining back to look up at the chute during the spin. Its a Good job I am a healing machine. I went on to have another 6 uneventful wingsuit jumps that day. No, Not without incident
  25. I did hundreds of FF jumps on an original Talon ( I still have the rig though its a secondary one now ). I kept the velcro maintained, used an elastic on the reserve to keep the flap shut, had it converted to BOC and flew HD with the chest strap tight. The biggest scare was during a Headdown dive, the chest strap must have worked a bit loose and I had both shoulder straps slip down to my elbows ... Yoikes .. end of dive, transit to sit and get may gear back on properly You can use it to Freefly but as everyone will tell you a more modern rig will be safer however I would'nt see a talon properly setup as a FF deathtrap.
