  1. It was great meeting everyone! Thanks Tom for providing the instruction, gear, food and of course your time in a safe pressure free enviroment. My introduction to the world of BASE could not have been any better. Hope to share an exit point with you guys in the near future!
  2. according to spiderbaby's stats 11% of the people who summit will die on the descent. a figure for total number of attempts is not given so a percentage for a climber to die during an attempt cannot be calculated with the information given. I would estimate that the number of attempts is in the thousands.
  3. Pretty much all of Akira Kurosawa's movies should be required viewing (Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Rashoman, Ran, Etc)

  7. I Hate HATE HATE mayonaise it is the absolute diabolical creation of SATAN the only thing that approaches its badness is hollandaise sauce *BARF*
  8. The catholic church has burned, tortured and killed more in its history than any muslim extremist suicide bomber. In its previous life the Catholic church was the most organized terrorist organization in history...period. I dont condone any killing in the name of religous extremism but illustrate the facts to show that this is a moot point.

    Accident Report

I dont think the Petzl Stop is built for rappels longer than a few hundred feet. The details still dont seem too clear. 400ft of rope would still put a lot of friction into the rappel system and an uncontrollable descent seems unlikely unless a component in the system failed or he was carrying gear increasing his weight.

    Accident Report

Was there any form of backup in the rappel system (ie shunt, prussik) ? My condolences to family and friends. BSBD
