according to spiderbaby's stats 11% of the people who summit will die on the descent. a figure for total number of attempts is not given so a percentage for a climber to die during an attempt cannot be calculated with the information given. I would estimate that the number of attempts is in the thousands.

I dont think the Petzl Stop is built for rappels longer than a few hundred feet. The details still dont seem too clear. 400ft of rope would still put a lot of friction into the rappel system and an uncontrollable descent seems unlikely unless a component in the system failed or he was carrying gear increasing his weight.

Was there any form of backup in the rappel system (ie shunt,prussik) ? My condolences to family and friends. BSBD

My container is a Vector made 9-25-84 and my main is a Cruislite also manufactured in 1984. The rig is still in pretty good shape. Its my first rig and I got a good deal on it only thing I dont like is that the canopy doesnt really flare

Well after a couple weeks of jumping this canopy here are my observations. If there is anything over ~8mph wind I can stand up the landings no problem as long as I land against the wind. The problem landings are on no wind or near no wind days. On these landings when I flare the canopy still has a lot of forward motion and vertical speec ... I end up having to run it out.

Did a 30ft rolling burnout in front of a group of bicycle cops...got pulled over by their buddy in a cruiser around the block...got arrested...charged with DUI..had to pay $$$...go to AA etc etc etc
