  1. I have seen mention of dropzones not affiliated to the governing bodies such as the USPA (United States) and BPA. I was under the impression that all DZs had to be operated under the auspices of these bodies in their respective countries. Does this mean these dropzones are illegal, or is membership of such bodies not a legal requirement? Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  2. I agree, make them tighter. You may to the plane a little more akwardly, but at least you will walk less akward for the rest of the week. Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  3. Good one Bill You have done so much most of us only dream of. Hope you have a very blessed year. Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  4. I always try to assume positive intent. It does however sometimes rub me when I can feel them poking and moving things around when they should rather just make a comment like "do you like your pin only halfway in", or something like that. 5. Well, maybe all is not lost. I know a number of policemen that skydive. If memory serves, there was some mention of a skydiving member of the police force assisting in the investigation. Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  6. Yikes! You must have been seriously bored. Or you are very efficient at cutting and pasting. Oh, and the fact about the snail occurs twice. Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  7. Hi I am looking for a friend of mine. Chris Flint, he used to jump in South Africa and I think he moved to Australia. If someone knows of his whereabouts, can you please let me know. Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  8. Excellent narration... That's the thing I like about skydiving. We are all students all of the time. Just when you think you have mastered the game, someone comes up with something new to try. I have taken up skysurfing, and I think my instructor wishes I will take up bowling. Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  9. I am SOOOO happy they are making serious work of this incident. I just think we should keep an open mind at this point, since they have arrested them on "suspicion" does not mean they are the guilty ones. BUT, saying that.. If they do turn out to be guilty beyond any reasonable doubt, I hope they fry! Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  10. I think there is a different reason for every person. I left for about 8 years, and for no reason I can remember. I suppose making money became just a bit too important or some other lame reason. Fortunately, last year, my wife pointed out that I had stopped going to the DZ even though I was still skydiving at heart. She picked the colours for a new rig and regularly comes to the DZ with me to enjoy the outdoors. Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  11. Cool!!! I've just booked the plane tickets to go fetch mine in ten days!!!! Enjoy!! Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  12. Must be the dumbest "stunt" I've ever heard of. But then again "Stoopid is as stoopid does" to quote Forest's Mom. Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  13. Can someone explain why the English use "It went tits up", or "It has gone all pear shaped" to describe something going wrong? Are things fine then when the tits are down and what sort of fruit will indicate a suitably fine state? Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  14. Galadriel.... Go figure Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  15. See a doctor, preferable a shoulder specialist, as soon as possible. Experience from three cuff tears taught me that. Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  16. If the weather was perfect, then doing only two should (in my opinion) be your choice, not the maximum possible. So, in a way you were lucky to get two done in one day. But in fairness two does seem to be the mean average attainable on a single day at the average dropzone running a turbine engined aircraft. Some exceptions are Bridlington where they operate a plain old Cessna 206 but you can do a hell of a lot more than two jumps a day, Hibaldstowe and Netheravon where I have managed between 5 and 10 in one day. 17. Our prayers are with you guys. Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  18. Sympathies....... It sounds a bit like trying to jump in the excellent English climate. That is not even taking into consideration the fact that most british DZs hate the fact that people actually want to go there to jump. Which means that even if the weather is jumpable you may end up doing only two jumps over a entire weekend. :( Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  19. Looks fantastic. Enjoy!!!!! Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  20. I know Skysurfing has a fairly small following, but how about having it's own forum? I'm sure someone will voluteer to moderate it. Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  21. The idea of me ironing is extreme enough Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
  22. I have just been watching Good Stuff for the n-th time and only just realised that the very obvious is staring me in the face. Patrick DeGayardon does this jump on skis and proceeds to open from a standing position. He must be falling pretty much at the same speed you would in a standup without the skis. Which, in a roundabout way, brings me to my question. I am learning to Skysurf on a training board (34") and thus having to go back to a flat-fly position to kill off some speed before opening. I am quite confident that I have managed this size board, but would like to change my foot position to be inline before going to the next size up. This would however mean that I would have to open in a standing position at quite some speed. Now.... if Patrick could do it from a standup position without having his spine ejected via his ring, then it should not be a problem.... Or so you would think. I jump a Hornet main, which does it's best to snap open regardless of packing style, and believe me everyone has tried packing it. What is the secret to doing a standup opening? Which main was Patrick using? anyone, everyone please help! Blue Skies SoftNotes "That's not flying.... that's falling with style!"
