  1. Guess it's not a hoax... http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/video/7332367-80-year-old-falls-out-of-parachute-harness-after-jump Crazy Ivan and the Crew (2005-2006) Team Insane (2004-2005) Insane in the Airplane (2003-2004)
  2. Just thought I'd pass this along because it looks cool. The advert does say: but I wonder how well that would work from 12000 feet. http://www.hobby-lobby.com/fpv.htm Crazy Ivan and the Crew (2005-2006) Team Insane (2004-2005) Insane in the Airplane (2003-2004)
  3. Yes, it was the Cameye. Got another one at the DZ and it works like a champ. The other one, I'm guessing, is gimpy. After my first day of video, I decided that the 0.6x was not wide enough with the Sonly HC-40 if I was in the action (outside of it then probably OK). I'm next trying a 0.38x Bower wide-angle lens with a 25mm to 37mm step-up adapter, all from GoShot in CA. Maybe not the best setup but the price was good. The provided step-up ring (Tokina) was not good, though, causing me to order another (Cokin) from B&H. The Cokin adapter works great. This is a Sidewinder HC setup for video only. Yeah, I know, I know, no stills. For now, I'm happy with that. Crazy Ivan and the Crew (2005-2006) Team Insane (2004-2005) Insane in the Airplane (2003-2004)
  4. OK, how about recommendations for manufacturers of custom-made helmets? I'd be interested - I'm on the other end of the spectrum (large noggin). Crazy Ivan and the Crew (2005-2006) Team Insane (2004-2005) Insane in the Airplane (2003-2004)
  5. OK, thanks all. My guess is I blew the Cameye because the camera is not very old (use-wise, at least) and has not previously been under LANC control. Swap-out troubleshooting for the camera and/or Cameye is in order. Appreciate the feedback. Crazy Ivan and the Crew (2005-2006) Team Insane (2004-2005) Insane in the Airplane (2003-2004)
  6. Apologies if this question has been asked and answered a million times. I did do a search, both here and via Google, before posting but may not have had the correct terms. I was recently mounting a Cameye-2 on my helmet. It worked fine before I mounted it. After I mounted it, it didn't work and seem to only give intermittent power indications. I did not stress the cable when mounting it. Nearest I can figure, I didn't pay close enough attention to the advice to have the camera powered off while inserting or removing the LANC plug. Two question for the crowd... 1) Is the Cameye really fragile enough that inserting or removing the plug while the camera is powered on will render it useless? If so then I guess I just learned an expensive lesson. 2) Could the electronic damage possibly be to the camera and not the Cameye? I'm hoping that I simply need to get a new Cameye and watch it this time. Thanks in advance! Crazy Ivan and the Crew (2005-2006) Team Insane (2004-2005) Insane in the Airplane (2003-2004)
  7. You should be able to get some image via the analog connection but it will likely be distorted and unusable due to the Macrovision ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macrovision ) copy protection that, I believe, is present on most commercial DVDs and VHS video tapes. Oops.. correction: From the wikipedia article, The result is the same, though... you'll get an unusable analog signal.
  8. DISCLAIMER: I have no financial interest in or connection to this product. I just recently saw it on CNET (news.com) and thought others might be interested. http://www.news.com/2300-1041_3-6218517-4.html?tag=ne.gall.pg CES sneak peek Extreme sports fanatics now have an easy-to-use camera that attaches directly to their helmets for recording their latest escapades. Like other compact video cameras such as the Flip Video or RCA's SmallWonder, the VHoldr offers an easy way to take video and upload it with no hassles directly to YouTube or some other Web-based video publisher. But the real differentiator is that the VHoldr is designed for hands-free operation. It's also ruggedized and weatherproof, making it ideal for sports enthusiasts racing down a snow-covered ski slope or hopping onto railings while riding a skateboard. The camera is also designed for easy use. It has a single on/off button, and video is loaded to a PC via a USB cable. The VHoldr software then allows users to edit and upload footage to VHolder.com, the video-hosting site for users, or YouTube. The camera, which costs $350, will be available in December through 400 retailers. While not yet on store shelves, it was also shown to journalists at the TechCrunch 40 conference in September. 9. Update from Slashdot: http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/06/25/1758235&tid=222&tid=137 Posted by timothy on Saturday June 25, @03:02PM from the dept. ptorrone writes "We've been watching this on MAKE closely- and the king of the one-time digital camera hacks/analysis finally got his hands on a CVS Camcorder on Friday, the 24th via someone shipping him one FedEx. Within 18 hours, he had slurped the flash memory and has the unencrypted, XVID codec, 320x240, 30fps movies stored in the camera on his computer." ----- Crazy Ivan and the Crew (2005-2006) Team Insane (2004-2005) Insane in the Airplane (2003-2004)
  10. From http://www.boingboing.net/2005/06/12/pinouts_for_cvss_dis.html: Pinouts for CVS's disposable camcorder CVS Pharmacies sell a one-time-use camcorder that you have to bring to their shop once you're ready to get your videos, which are delivered on DVD. Enterprising hackers are racing to reverse-engineer the camcorder so that they can extract their own video and make multiple uses of the camera without paying repeatedly. A hacker has posted the pinouts for the camera on a Linux site, so victory is surely in hand: Here is the pinout for the CVS one time use camcorder. Pin 1 starts at the end where J5 is printed on the PCB. 1 no connection 2 ground 3 no connection 4 Battery + (probably used to verify the battery level when recycling) 5 no connection 6 USB +5V 7 ground 8 USB Data + 9 USB Data - 10 ground Pins 6 - 9 is the only pins needed to connect to a USB port. ----- Crazy Ivan and the Crew (2005-2006) Team Insane (2004-2005) Insane in the Airplane (2003-2004)

  12. Not a vendor recommendation but I was able to get two straight cables from CDW (http://www.cdw.com, which used to be Computer Discount Wharehouse) at $22.57 a piece.
