  1. Well I'm not getting anywhere on this. PD's response is they'll send it back to me with a big ass stamp on it saying it's unairworthy...or pay up and get new lines. I'm still baffled by all of this as well. 3/8" is a very small amount; depending on much you pull on the line or other lines you could get just about any number you want to see. On the flip side, I do see PD trying to cover their ass on this as with any reserve they get back. I'm still back at square one....relining a reserve? my pics & stuff!
  2. Below is what I was told about the lines; The reserve line set is being replaced more because of being out of trim which I know puzzles some people. With an untreated microline, the lines get out of trim merely by pulling and tugging through the repacking process and since it does have five jumps on it, even more so with this line set. The lines are off side to side by as much as 3/8” either longer or shorter throughout the line set. We are more concerned about that than the fraying at the lower steering lines and brake to toggle. my pics & stuff!
  3. That is my arguement as well. I know the history of it, made in 93, 5 rides all by me, 90% of the packs by me....and taken very good care of. It passed the pull test and the perosity test too. my pics & stuff!
  4. Did you ask them about you doing the reline? You might save a buck or two doing it yourself. Jerry Baumchen PS) I've got a 42 stitch bartacker. Jerry, I did consider it and while I have no problem with relining a main....a reserve is something I won't do. I've already just accepted the fact that my choices are to say fuck it and not have a reserve or pay for it....and I'm going to pay for it. I was really hoping I'd see a lot of replies saying 'no way...a reserve never gets relined' but that's not the case. my pics & stuff!
  5. shit...you're right. lets move the post to putting new 'shroud lines' on my very old reserve. my pics & stuff!
  6. Can any of you answer this....since the lines are untreated...are they more prone to go out of trim quicker? I guess as a rigger I should probably know this but I don't. Religning reserves....I've just never heard of that. my pics & stuff!
  7. If the placard is full then you no longer own a reserve, you own a worthless grounded canopy. So $350 for an airworthy reserve sounds pretty cheap :-) PD is the only mfg that puts those blocks on the placard (which I do like...but of course not now since it's gonna cost me). So I wouldn't say it's worthless...it's just full of check boxes. my pics & stuff!
  8. You're absolutely right. I guess what I was expecting was a return with a much shortened life. Now I'm faced with spending 350 for a reserve I already own. Yeah...I don't wanna pay it but probably will. my pics & stuff!
  9. It's been locked up in my 2001 infinity the whole time and was planning on putting it back in it as a back-up rig. The only velcro snags are really the toggles and toggle covers. Prior to that it was in an eclipse that that sat on a shelf for several years....prior to that I don't know. I was sent pics of the 'fraying' that they said 'compromised' the integrity and honestly think it's very minor. my pics & stuff!
  10. I have an older PD reserve (1993) that I sent back to PD for recertification (placard was all full). It had a total of 5 rides (and likely a shit ton of pencil packs). I'm being told it's out of trim and needs a relign (3/8")! Then they'll recert it for another 35 repacks. Has anyone ever heard of this? Out of trim?....really? Yeah, I know it will be cheaper than buying another reserve but come on....really? Unless I hear others saying it's the norm...I'm calling it a sham. my pics & stuff!
  11. So maybe I'm a dumb ass but I did put scrisc in the search (top right hand side) and got nothing....and noted that in my post. Apparently there's something I'm doing wrong? Anyway, if you read the 3 posts from that link you provided that say good things....notice all the profiles are from about the same time frame...june/july of 2016. I want something more comforting from someone that's been around a while. my pics & stuff!
  12. Has anyone bought anything from them? The offer of the AAD plus an audible seems almost too good of a deal. And the site is selling those benny's that a lot of people have never received. I did do a search for Scrisc and got nothing. my pics & stuff!
  13. Yes, Kpow is the place to be. my pics & stuff!
  14. My opinion is you should be logging as you go. There are plenty out there that don't and you'll most likely hear their reasoning. But I do it for quite a few reasons.....mostly to get chicks (hasn't worked yet). Also some DZ's require this...and then again some don't. Just do it now and you'll be happy you did. my pics & stuff!
  15. Sorry...just now seeing this. I have a Brother TZ1-B652 zig-zag. I still have the issues of reverse but after reading some of this I might be putting the bobbin in backwards...gotta try that one. But any other opinions? Regarding just not using it unless needed...putting a BOC on an infinity....it would be friggin great to run a whole stretch backwards. Kelly was showing me this. I tried it but man the tension sucked and had to unpick all of it. It can be bitch getting the whole container in the machine. my pics & stuff!
  16. Might wanna start by changing the name of your thread to 'handicam' instead of 'handicap'. FYI...vegas is pretty intuitive and you can make a template to do up your video. We do them up north and takes about 8 minutes. my pics & stuff!
  17. first off...love the account name. Second...yes this has happened with me about 5 years ago. Although I didn't leave due to the seats being filled by tandems, it was exactly what you said about growing your fun jumper base (among many things). And I didn't have the larger dz to run to. I just opted to either stop jumping or drive 2.5 hrs to another dz of the same size. It was good I did so because it showed me how a dz should be operated...friendly, welcoming, inclusive and family oriented. It was just what I needed to keep me in the sport. So no, I don't think all dz's are like that....but yes they are out there sadly. my pics & stuff!
  18. Pretty sure that's a no. The only operation I know of there is a tandem outfit and that's it....they are owned by the same outfit that runs the guam operation. It's not even a drop zone...it's a business. But that was 10 years ago when I worked there...could be different now. my pics & stuff!
  19. make your own. The ones I've made (tongue switch) are cheap and very reliable. They look a bit ghetto but still do the job. Do a search on here, I know it's been discussed. my pics & stuff!
  20. Just like what crashprone said, Kapowsin Airsports in Shelton Washington is a great example of a family oriented drop zone. In Oregon, PNW is another place that's very welcoming. They're good with kids and pets. my pics & stuff!
  21. I've been thinking about the two different angles thing.... How does this work in a competition? I mean, how do you decide which video you give to the judges.... Do you check the footage before you upload it? Or do you get a second change to upload after a point got busted? ( I would not think so) Or is it a matter of knowing you screwed up and then decide to go for the wider angle....in which case the team may be too tiny, costing you points as well? I think once it's been uploaded that's it. In the case where I used the backup I was pretty sure I chopped a grip so I just used the wider angle. Once I downloaded the vid I went back and watched the main video to be sure and it was very close. my pics & stuff!
  22. Exactly what he said. Backup and different angles. If you happened to be too close and cut off a grip, the wider angle will have it. my pics & stuff!
  23. I've used it as a backup since it was MUCH wider than the .5 lens on the video camera....and it was useful once. my pics & stuff!
  24. What's worked for me is tying a knot in the kill line close to where the PC attaches to the canoy. This will shorten it by about an inch. Just make sure the knot is close to the canopy and won't be pulled into the bridle when cocked. my pics & stuff!
  25. I know the gear store at the drop zone in Shelton Washington (Kapowsin Air Sports) has a bunch. http://www.skydivekapowsin.com/ Give them a call, I bet they'd ship you one (they shipped me one!) my pics & stuff!
