  1. Good point. Luckily, the new seal that has my initials on it was done very half ass and my initials are off to the side so it's quite different than my original. And I did let the FAA know my shit was stolen...thus needing a new card. my pics & stuff!
  2. I already had my initials on the otherside. I'm sure it was a tweaker that stole my shit so the chances of seeing it on a rig are probably pretty slim. my pics & stuff!
  3. I had the same thing happen about 12 years ago, stolen from my car. Lost the whole deal...press, log book, certificate (was in my log book) and ALL the tools. I informed the FAA, got a new cert card (from the FAA), got a new log book, got a new press from para-gear and moved forward. Never heard anything else about it. I hate thieves! my pics & stuff!
  4. This is a good topic since we had a harness a master rigger altered and it was ghetto! While I guess it was allowed since he's a master rigger...it came up that he should have filed some paper work with the FSDO...or something along those lines. Can anyone that knows about this comment? With this particular rig, there was no paperwork and the mfg didn't know anything about it either. The rig ended up getting reworked by the mfg and the poor customer basically paid twice. my pics & stuff!
  5. For me, rigging for dummies turned into a 'look at what this dumb ass did' & 'what the fuck was this guy thinking' instead of a learning tool or a place to share information. I left the group a while ago. Hopefully this new group will be more focused on learning/sharing/growing instead of bashing & boasting. my pics & stuff!
  6. Really? I'm still using my 110, performs like a rockstar and pretty sure there aren't any tandem students complaining about the quality. Iver, sounds like you have the equipment...but do you have the tools?...as in have you been practicing? I would like to think you got your video papers because you showed someone you can do the job. For my CX, I prefer manual focus and turn off video stabilization (or whatever it's called). I still shoot with a digital SLR so I can't help with the gopro. As for editing, it really depends on what your dz prefers if there is any. I prefer to keep it short and sweet, no need for extra shit on the video when really, it's all about the freefall. my pics & stuff!
  7. From my experience, dacron will show that burned/frayed look and it's not really that bad. You should be able to get 1000 jumps out of that lineset. Trim might be pretty bad but the lines should last a long ass time. I'm sure someone else with a lot more experience on this subject will chime in. Another thought, what do the grommets look like on your slider?...ie the inside where they're sliding on the lines. my pics & stuff!
  8. My guess is that's where the slider sits after opening and buffets against the lines during the whole flight. Do you know if that's the case? Do you collapse the slider? my pics & stuff!

  10. should be on the right hand side...you're correct about the male/female thing. Other than that....don't think it matters other than every time you put it on, you'll be grabbing the wrong side to zip it up...oh and you'll be laughed at and called a girl. my pics & stuff!

  13. This is a pretty old thread but i'm in the same situation. I have a very nice looking GQ 350 but it's old...DOM is 81. Some are arguing there's no lifespan.. http://www.parachuteshop.com/parachute_life_limit.htm And the manual clearly states 10-15 years. And to add to the confusion, there's been repacks on this rig every year for the last 10+ years. my pics & stuff!
  14. Same problem. What I've typically done (depending on the patience and time available) I'll fold/flake it as best I can and then lay a folded up carpet on it (prior to narrowing/S-folding) with weights on top of that and let it sit overnight. I call it the 'iron' and it does help a bit. But the whole side pack and rolling method....I like that idea. my pics & stuff!
  15. you can fold the fabric together (like pinching it) and tack it so it won't lay flat and it will be much easier to get your hands in. But this will add a bit of bulk where the risers lay. my pics & stuff!
  16. I'm giving the customer the same product I was giving them 15 years ago when doing this on my belly...but it's much better. It's not about what I 'can' do for my benefit. It's easier on my body and I can get deep on the tandem student. When you get a student that looks down the whole time....I'm still getting their face. I agree the whole twirling/barrel rolls don't help the video and that's not what I'm giving. my pics & stuff!
  17. Some factors you'll want to consider is your size/weight. Are you generally floaty?...then probably small wings. Are you thick and sink out pretty easily?...then you'll want bigger wings. The jacket i have has the big wings and i love them. I'm not a fatty but love having the ability to NEVER sink out on a tandem vid. This really came into play videoing a 16 year olds AFF dive a few years ago. He weighed (no shitter) about 90lbs. my pics & stuff!
  18. I guess you could say that but the bonus of this position is you can alternate between back and sit (more like a recliner) depending on speed of the subject. And....it doesn't hurt my back if they're hauling ass. my pics & stuff!
  19. Someone told me (or suggested) years ago to do the same, chin to chest. I got one rockin opening and with my head in that position it just hammered my head down farther and wrecked me. Since then I sorta look up (more so with my eyes...i like to see what the canopy is doing) and brace the back of the helmet on the yoke. I don't tilt my head back all that much, that seems painful as well....but I am looking up. My helmet is a cookie something...don't know but not a flattop style. SLR on top, CX on the side. The canopies have been quite a few over the years but the last 2 cross braced have been the best, an icarus FX89 & xaos27-86. While the xaos may not be the best on opening on heading, the duration and shock from the openings are very comfortable (about as comfy as jumping with weight on my head can get). The pic shows my helmet setup. Yes, you can get them much lighter with gopros. And this pic is with a rebel on the helmet...not the 5D. my pics & stuff!
  20. I have a 5D as well and with an L lens...it's a heavy bitch. I do look up and rest the back of my helmet on the yoke of the rig while shrugging my shoulders. This has worked for me for the last 15 years of wearing a camera. But it's my experience that the first part of the opening is what's gonna wreck you. If it's a slammer, you won't have time to grab your chin (or rest your helmet on the yoke like I try to do). For what it's worth, I have tried the method of holding your chin but it never worked for me. It makes sense...just hasn't worked. my pics & stuff!

  22. No lens hood on these shots....but I honestly don't think that's the problem. The 2 different shots the camera was in a different orientation and the streaking is in the same exact spot moving the same direction. my pics & stuff!
  23. Anyone have any idea what this is? I've never noticed it before (that I can remember anyway). one is with the camera pointed straight up and the other is the camera laying on the ground. the red spot is in the same spot regardless of the background or what the camera was up against. ...it's a canon 5D mk2, the lens is the 24-105L my pics & stuff!
