  1. Just a thought; but how about a forum for us guys, (ok, and girls), who ride tha plane back down?
  2. Old article but I think it still applies Peer Pressure and Being Cool .
  3. Does anyone know where the FAI got these ff times vs jump numbers??? A - 25 jumps / 5 minutes = 12 sec/jump B - 50 jumps / 30 minutes = 36 sec/jump C - 200 jumps / 1 hour = 18 sec/jump D - 500 jumps / 3 hours = 21.6 sec/jump
  4. I remember a student who cut away a canopy...it looked like it was flying fine, so we asked him what happened. His answer was, "I kept pumping the brakes and the slider would not go back up the lines. So I got rid of it." It would not go UP the lines...he stuck with that story...we gave him retraining. Point is, they get overloaded and confused and either don't know what they saw, or can't describe it adequately. Sounds like this person could use a review of malfunctions...with photos and/or video.
  5. It was my understanding that the "Disconnect the RSL" rule, came about years ago, because of the design of the Racer RSL. That is, to say that it was cross-connected at the risers and stood a very good chance of entangling with the reserve...a good portion of the training video was sponsered by Jumpshack, so this was part of the training that was included...
  6. Guess what. My ISP identified this website as the origin of the virus. I do have anti virus protection, thank you. This however doesn't make it OK to send viruses to MY e-mail address! If you think the phone number I posted is phony, please call it. I would be glad to let you know what I think of your crass reply to my messages!
  7. Evidently there is a jackass in your fine community who likes sending viruses to other members. Perhaps this offender would like a bit of justice. I hope you find the offender before I do.
  8. If Cole is legally intoxicated, he should be arrested and charged. I disagree that there is anything that the pilot of a turbine can do, unless he shuts down and loads every plane, but under current regulations, I do understand that he would be held accountable by the FAA. I don't want you on my highways intoxicated, and I don't want you in my airspace in that condition, either.
  9. Im not getting an error message. When I type my username and password it accepts it and goes to the initial login page where it basicaly says "welcome diverds", but as soon as I try to navigate from there it asks for a login again. This stinks. I have tried logging out and shutting down the browser and relogging in but to no avail. I have erased my cookies, I don't know what else to do. Do you think it is on my end or dz.coms? I have never had this problem before. diverds
  10. Am I the only person unable to log in? This is so frustrating. Is anyone else having problems? diverds
  11. I did that. Still no luck. diverds
  12. Why can't I log in. I type in user name and password but can not log in.
  13. Skydive St. Louis (no longer operating) used to have CAP 3 AAD's on their main canopies, Cypres on the reserves. I believe they were set to go off (the CAP 3's) at 2500 feet. They never had 2 canopies out, due to this...but did have a couple main activations, saving the cost of the cypres cutter. CAP 3 is a mechanical device and there is no cost when it goes off.
  14. Observers on skydiving aircraft should be escorted from the plane. Lets not forget that, if they are an observer, they usually are unfamiliar with skydiving and aircrafts. They did not go through the first jump course. Again...observers should be escorted from the plane. This does NOT mean I think he should sue. He signed a waiver...he walked into the prop. S___ happens.
  15. Sounds like the problem may not have been all you. The light weight of the video person and their level of experience might have been a contributing factor. I've done a lot of video jumps and have yet to come across someone I can"t stay with, except for the occasional 100 pound floaty person...and that's why I have wings.
  16. did i get banned or somethin, i can't login. i have deleted my cookies and all that. when i login it goes back to the main forum page and i still have the login button on the top right... any suggestions?
  17. All I have to say is...once you jump an articulated harness, you don't want to jump anything else.
  18. All of the sudden, I am no longer getting the orange reminder tags that told me which threads I have already viewed. No longer getting the #new messages, # new posts indicators. Is this just my problem, and what to do to fix it?
  19. And you get your info from...? Size does make a difference. It can affect the snivel...the snatch force...I play with a lot of canopies just to check things out.A heavier loaded canopy can open slower, as a rule of thumb, particularly if it is known to snivel anyway.
  20. Isn't it possible that some canopies snivel a safe amount of time for one instructor, but longer for another? An experienced base jumper told me that the bigger the canopy(i.e., wing loading) the faster the opening. Perhaps you need a larger canopy? Would this make a difference?
  21. 65 jumps. I bought a complete system, new. At 350 jumps I was bored and bought all new again to downsize 2 sizes, and go elliptical. Now that I do gear sales(for 6 years now), I tell to start out with used if you can find something acceptable. Otherwise buy a container system that is made for you(there is nothing like a rig that actually fits), and size it one size smaller than the USED main that you start on. Its the main that you will get tired of. As far as other economics go...estimate your jump numbers in the near future...depending on how much gear rental is and your numbers...does it make sense to buy sooner rather that later. If money isn't an issue, then buy it as soon as possible...if it is, then calculate if it's better to put it on a c/c or continue to rent.
  22. 18-24 inches has always worked well for me. A very small amount of slack in the pack tray makes it easier for the lines to hang up on one corner(especially with some containers) and start the bag into a turn as it leaves the main pack tray, and after all...who needs line twists?
  23. ......."The true teacher knocks down the idol that the student makes of him."........
  24. I am so glad I read this post. I was days from shelling out the money for the 950. Let us all know if you solve the problem. I guess I will replace my trv11 with an updated trv, unless I hear something soon.
  25. Keeping in mind that I have not seen your container; you can probably get your rig into fairly safe condition with a lot of work. I would consider the cost of this and think about using that money towards the purchase of a more freefly friendly container. I just saw a really nice Mirage go for $700. As a rigger, you would think that I would encourage people to let me do a lot of expensive work to their rigs, but I prefer to encourage the use of safer gear. Having witnessed a premature deployment earlier this year (not on a rig I maintain), I see only good reasons to replace older gear with new when at all possible. By the way...there are containers that I have refused to pack at our DZ, Quote because I think that they should be retired, but there is always someone else out there that will pack it!
