  4. I am customer of PV abou 6 years The Performance Variable make the Omega containers, and the canopys Contrail, Spark and now the Demon . All products is very good quality as well as service after sale , but the Demon canopy is above all no cross braced HP canopys in conception, opennings and performance. Roq
  5. In accuracy parafoils the point of stall the brake point need with hands to close in hips place. For good opennings you need to put the brake point in control lines no more 10 centimeters up to point of full flight (for toggles to close in hips place) or same in full flight. If you put the brake point more than 10 cm up your opennings will happen in partial stall with big balance for back and front Roq

  7. I tried several times the flight in mountain, without snow, as paragliding, with main canopys BT40, Nitro88, Contrail 135, Impulse 85 and 120, accuracy Parafoil 252 and canopies that I made AR7 100 and AR7 95 and others, per times small flights of 20/30 meters and other times more longer flights of about 1 to 2 minutes. The main problem is to get a good and safe place for take-off and to landing . For landing you need well a ramp inclined, (so much more inclined as low is the wind and less performance and size have the canopie) and without obstacles in front to avoid collisions The ramp should be very exposed to the predominant wind to avoid crossed winds to the take-off that can provoke abrupt losses of lift. The technique for take-off is the same to the paragliding; to inflate the canopy against the wind, to hoist the canopy as a kite, to turn the body and to run maintaining the canopie very pointed to the wind. Dangers: Little time for the preparation for landing because of the natural big speed of the HP canopies. To fly close of the land, risk of sudden loss of height and collision with the land To fly to leeward, danger of collapses and abrupt losses of height The best form of not assume the big risks is big experience in canopie control, to fly away of the hill, to maintain the flight speed, front wind and to have always close the target for landing. At any form the experience is always dangerous Roq
  8. After having made about 140 paragliding flights in interior zones in conditions of dynamic and thermal flight. Also after to have tried the paramotor flight, I judge, although it am still initiate, to be to the height for, of a brief form, to do an analogy between the skydiving and paragliding, establishing common points between an and other activity, the degree of danger, as well as the advantage of her to have practiced one of this activited for to begin in the other and the knowledge and learning common to the two. I flew with 7 different wings beginning (for the roof) with a wing level 3, then level 2 and finally level 1/2 that is it more adapted in terms of safety for an initiate pilot. (That this doesn't serve of example to anybody) Only for to clear, the levels of the wings in the paragliding according to the norms international DHV settles down in 3 levels; level 1 initiation, level 2 advanced, level 3 competition. And the more high the performante level also more dangerous it is the wing of flying. The image Usually, for us skydivers the image that reveals of the paragliding is that is a calm when compared with the skydiving, that is as the like the line fishes, to go for a walk calmly in the sky without anything of abnormal to happen. That it is activity for the " slack " ones that don't get to jump of an airplane. For the paragliding it idea of the skydiving it is that is an activity for crazy boys that jump of an airplane and they only want to arrive here below more the quickly possible. For these the canopy is not wings that fly but yes just nylon mushrooms that seek to soften the fall of the paraquedista to the ground. The reality The reality is not a nor other, it is very different The free flight can be a calm, relaxing activity, without any assail when practiced the coastal zones close to, with flowed winds and soft coming of the sea. There there is not fright any we just hovered in the space, singing and whistling and contemplating everything that the landscape can to offer for us. But when the conditions are stronger and we passed for the zones of interior, close to the mountains, where there is always some coming turbulence of the relief and irregularities of the land, of the venturis provoked by the throats and of the thermal ones always presents, there the situation radically moves of a soft flight we passed to an agitated flight, ascents and gone down vertiginous, a constant fight to maintain the wing to fly well, to avoid pendulums and swingings, fechos and front or lateral collapses that can to bring us for the ground the high-speed in an unrecoverable spinning. Also the paragliding pilot in general walks a little far away from the truth when speaks of the skydiving. The today canopy is just as wing paragliding, perfect machines of high flight performance that they no only are destined for the coming the jumper for the soil, but also to provide it the pleasure to fly, although more down, and to terrify with aerobatics and fantastic flares. For besides the classic accuracy competitions precision practiced there is decades with canopy Ram Air, today they are already made international competitions of flare, speed and precision in wings of HP with great inpact mediatic If the skydiving demands great courage and autodominio to leave of the airplane and to practice free fall, the free flight demands it in the same way to fly in situations as the I described. If many students interrupt the skydivers activity for desmotivation or lack of money, which, in fact and in the great maioriate of the cases it doesn't pass of that the that commonly we called fear ", the same happens with the apprentices of paragliding The perigosidade degree The degree of potential danger I think equivalent in an and in another activity If in the skydiving we have basically the danger of the bad operations, of the shocks and of the aterragens, in the paragliding we have the danger of the descolagens, of the I fly and of the aterragens, still added to the dangers imponderable resultants of the unexpected alterations of the meteorological conditions Still having the danger of the excess of self-confidence, especially of us skydivers that can take us to belittle the conditions adapted for the practice of the paragliding, taking us per times to confuse courage with inconsciência and to assume purposeless risks. The pilotagem technique For the jumper it is very important the experience acquired in the control of canopy for the paragliding practice and vice-versa. The beginnings of control they are basically the same ones. They completely just modify some parameters as the slopes that are much more flat in the paragliding, the answer to the inputs that it is much slower in the paragliding and the it forms of flying that for besides the normal toggle inputs it is supported by the weight transfer (inclination) in the chair of the paragliding. The same already we make some of us in the swoop to support the manobradores turns and to dive more in canopy of high performance. There is also a device of acceleration, the foot (bar) accelerator that actuando in the suspension risers (bands) it alters the inclination of the wing (trim). just as us we do in the canopies but alone actuando in the front risers. In the paragliding the main goal is to win height, per times the difficult is to come down. In the skydiving the difficult is to be there on top, the main goal is the gone down. Advantages of learning paragliding and skydiving As it is I obviate it is advantageous to be paragliding experienced pilot for to begin in the skydiving, as it is it to be also expert skydiver for to begin in the paragliding. basically the flight feeling is the same and the accumulated larger or smaller experience is very important for to give us the good information on the heights, reactions of the wing to the inputs, vertical and horizontal speeds and glide ratios. There is even so, that to notice the limitations and differences of behavior well of an and other and to respect them For example it is absolutely normal a jumper to continue with the inflate wing after the landing same with strong wind. Such it is unthinkable in the paragliding and it can to bring serious resulting consequences of a sudden increase of the wind that it cannot us catapultar against the soil or a sharp rock. As it happened with me It happened after I landed in the same place that I made the take-off (Top Landing) I was, in unbalance situation on a rock to contemplate the wing open on my head, almost time, the wind increased suddenly and I wrapped up and feeling an impact of a sharp stone in the my integral helmet that was there very marked. I leave unhurt but I was safe for the helmet and for the chair that has a foam protecção of big thickness. The same problems can happen in the take-off. The paragliding pilot always needs to become a specialist in meteorology for to practice in safety and to take advantage of the conditions for to fly, that is just important until a certain level in the skydiving that things like with the limits of the wind, visibility and immediate forecasts. The emotion In an and in another practice there is plenty of emotion In the skydiving she is without doubts more brutal " because everything happens much more fast with more intensity. There is not anything that substitutes the exit and the free fall In the paragliding the flight in strong, thermal and dynamic situations, is without doubts a continuous and permanent emotion. It is never known what comes to proceed. One alone activity for some. You can can believe. The costs (In Portugal) Basic course of paragliding 300 euros Basic course (static line) of skydiving 350 euros An paragliding complet equipment, chair, wing, reserve canopy, helmet, new it will cost about 3500 euros A skydiving complete equipment, container, main and reserve, cypres altimeter, suit and helmet about the 6000 euros The cost of the flights is the travel for the place The cost of the jumps about 20 euros The duration of the material paragliding 300/500 hours Parachute canopy about 1000 jumps Maintenances In the paragliding, brook lines and fabric tears for traction in the landing or take off is frequent In the skydiving are less vulgar the damages, but they you need too packing the reserve of 4 in 4 or 6 months 20/40 euros, batteries for cypres 500 jumps or 2 years / 75 euros, maintenance of the cypres 4 in 4 years about 200 euros Generalities and Construction Glide ratio / Finess Paragliding 6/1 to 9.5/1 Parachute canopy 2/1 to 4.5/1 Horizontal speed Paragliding 20 to 65 Km/h Parachute Canopy 20 to 100 Km/h I number of cells Wing of paragliding 30 to 70 Parachute canopys 5 to 36 Aspect ratio Paragliding 3,5 /1 to 6,5 /1 Parachute canopy 1,6/1 to 3/1 Surface Paragliding 23 to 30 m2 Parachute canopy 6 to 30 m2 Fabric Paragliding Nylon Ripstop impermebilizado of high density Parachute canopy Nylon Ripstop low porositate and Z Po low density Lines Paragliding 250 to 300 meters aramid or covered kevlar or dynema Parachute canopy 60 to 200 meters Dracon, Aramid, Spectra or Dynema Weight paragliding 5, 5 Kg for 7Kg canopy 1,5 Kg to 4 Kg The means They are without doubts larger for the practice of the paragliding. Any cliff or set up disencumbered and turned to the predominant wind they can serve for to practice. In the skydiving we are always restricted to the airplane, or that make BASE. Conclusion The skydiving is a fascinating, touching experience. brutal and until almost sensual The paragliding fascinating and touching and almost spiritual experience An activity doesn't substitute the other, it is even something descabido to be to do comparisons among them. I face them as complemental to each other for who it likes the air. Sincerely I recommend to some and others that try and practice the two. 10. I speak for me and of my experience with cobalts and impulses. I didn't speak about body position, nor of 2 stage opennings, nor pilot size. You were who spoke. For me it is important as in another canopys but not the the fundamental. Just as in any other canopy the important same it is the packing the rest it is the normal necessary accessory. Here in the forum any problem with a cobalt is national event. If it went like this with other canopys everyday there were national events. You should know that the stilleto was already called spinneto that there already who fractured neck or spanked with velocitys, sabres, icarus, ZP, and triatlons and nobody said badly of these canopys. Even today so these canopys is exlibris and I agree is good canopys! Who knows what is a good canopy know that has to put the cobalt in the top of the good canopys in performance and openings. I am no dealer and I am no sponsored from cobalt Roq
  11. Those that only say badly of that many experts only say well should be questioned about their packing ability or of those that made their pack job, or then which the true reasons that motivate them... I think that you have a low number jumps (25 ?) for to start to jump with cobalt, but when you have more jumps try one and you will get great satisfaction. When you jump a cobalt you need only the sure of a good and appropriate pack-job. roq
  12. There is not contradiction none. If a canopy is sensitive and answers well you can take advantage of that for improvement the performances and the swoops, but also when you not used these good characteristics well (like one F1 Ferrari) you can make a great mistake... Roq
  13. The demon has great speed in flight when compared with other modern HP canopys Although has a trim quite accentuated for to maintain great flight speed, this can provoke that he levels before time in the swoop if it not be pilot progressively and gently. The demon is very sensitive and answers direct to the pilot's inputs that it should not be pilot in a brutal way if we want don't remove good perfomance of it Stall situations with the demon can happen only for the big pilot's mistakes roq
  14. basically my roq-mod is similar to h-mod but with the nose more closed. The triangles a little larger than h-mod are sewn close the bottom skin of the leeding edge. Half triangles also exist in the last two cell. The very soft openings need a small slider and the performance is basically the same to the h-mod that I also tested in a copy that I applied in my canopy for test. See pict in attach, sorry for bad pict quality Roq
  15. That I know about my experience with cobalts and Impulse canopys is the following: -The most important for to have a soft opening is the placement of the slider quartered and 3 " out of the nose of the cell of the center. -For to have symmetrical opening is better to stay to open the nose of the center cell and to rotate the four outside cells 1/2 turn for inside (not for inside the center cell). -No to push the nose all inside of the pack job. It should be pushed the nose lightly inside, only for adjust and to stay centered the nose but not put the nose inside of the pack job. -To -rotate the tail just not more 4ou 5 turns. -To -place everything very symmetrical inside of the bag -With this process I never had an opening hard!!! -And with it pack job I need to put a small slider in my canopys with nose H-Mod type (roq-mod) for to had normal openings and not super slow openings!!! Roq
  16. "When you want to know about some gear ask the guys that are putting 1000 or more jumps a year on that little piece of equiptment. " I don't agree with your opinion. When you want information about any equipment, ask a experienced and independent jumper, that loves the skydiving and not only the money, that know several types of canopys or equipments and not only one or two, that made several hundreds of jumps with several canopy types and don't be sold " or sponsored for only any maker. There are some jumpers with thousands of jumps and that never jumped with more than two marks of canopys. For to give an opinion it is not necessary to say badly of another equipment, it is enough to say well of equipment that we tested if in fact he is good. Roq
  17. I have hundreds of jumps with cobalt and Impulse with high load more that 2, and never had one hard opening! I had only one cut-away because incidental unstowed toggle when had line twists. One of my friend with about 250 jumps made the skysurf course with Atair Impulse 150 low load with no problems (Impulse is equal to cobalt with only diference is normal 1 panel in top skin instead two like cobalt) , and I saw one jump that he opened in face to sky when he had one incidental pilot chute opening. In final the skysurf course he he didn't know that had jumped with elliptic canopy. He thought that was one square canopy. The impulse 150 was packed always for one good packer of DZ With cobalt you only need to have taken care with packing, and body position in opening when high load. Have many cut-aways with cobalts because the cobalt is very atractive canopy for jumpers with low experience and bad packers. Like had many cut-aways with stilettos and others for same reasons Roq

  20. Great and beautiful manufacture work! The canopy shows that was built with the objective of eliminating to the maximum the parasit drags that result of anormal protuberances and saliencies in any airfoil. Thus, all the panels, top skin, bottom skin ribs and loops of connection of the lines is sewn inside of the canopy. Each cell also has two panels in the bottom skin and top skin (like the cobalt just has in the top skin) The outside half cell is completely closed in the nose. The air enters for the cross-ports The nose of 3 o'clock and 6 load cel are closed in triangle. After observing this canopy I was right that is the ram-air canopy more developed that I saw even today. And that I was soon submissive to this canopy and desirous of testing. Container Racer Elite 22" Pilot Chute Load for 2.15 Jumps with null wind and moderate wind, opennings in terminal and sub-terminal speed Opennings: Very good, aligned, progressive and soft in terminal and sub terminal speed To canopy it flies very to the front still with the braks stowed In flight: Very sensitive canopy, big Glide Ratio, superior to the cobalt. It is in fact diabolical to go down in full flight Aggressive turns Pressure of front risers is moderate Negative recovery arch Canopy with overstear in turns Good Swoop and flare very very long with big power lift e final same with no wind In summary: I think that this canopy is in the continuation of the cobalt but has more trim angle (I don't know it this is real better for swoop) and a cleaner construction than gives a better aerodynamic use. I think that even without being well cross braced this canopy, with top pilot, can compete directly with the VE, Xaos and VX in the swoop competitions. But is the canopy for experts only because is very fast and sensitive. Roq

  22. I saw its video of your bad line twists I think that in spite of everything your cobalt showed reasonable good behavior with these asymmetric line twists. If you acquired that bad opening with another "reputed " canopy maybe you would not get to clear the twists anymore. The cobalt is eliptical canopy and, like all eliptical canopys need good body position for opennings, good pack job and good conditions. Roq
