  1. Jumper had a toggle release during the parachute opening and that lead to the canopy spinning and the jumper was unable to cutaway prior to hitting the ground.
  2. I've been seeing a lot of TI's using BDU's since you can get them at a surplus store for next to nothing. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  3. They are still operating if all the photos that keep popping up on my facebook feed are correct from my friends out there
  4. Jumper was seen at about 2000 feet to have their pilot chute wrapped around the right side of the canopy that lead to the canopy spinning. The jumper cutaway at about 100 feet and was not able to open their reserve in time.
  5. Tandem pair ended up with a double out situation with canopies entangled and rode this situation to the ground. The student died from his injuries.
  6. Jumper performed a low turn to turn into the wind for landing and failed to bring the canopy back to a land-able orientation prior to hitting the ground
  7. I get messages every week from people that fear speaking out about injuries or fatalities at their local DZ's and want to get the word out since they feel lessons can be learned. Most times they know just the basic information such as "I heard Joe was life flighted out with critical injuries" and only after I post the thread do details start coming out from multiple sources. A form like this will kill the forum since a lot of times people do not know 100% of the information and if they had to collect all the info to start a thread they might as well wait the 6-9 months for Parachutist to publish something. 8. Exactly. Put the money into a good edit station and a good editor and the customers can walk out with their videos within 20 minutes of landing. Think of the cost for the postage, the envelopes, etc and you'll find that you are spending more than what you would pay to high some high school kid an hourly rate to edit the videos based on the volume they could crank out. We have 2 editors that are turning on average 70 videos a day on the weekend and the video team frequently gets some jumps in too when its a tad slow. Having the videos in hand right then can also let them see them before they leave and that can generate more customers seeing the videos and getting their own video also. If you spend the money it can more than pay for itself and you don't have to give up your time during the week also. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  9. I have recently started to see people tinting their visors in their full face helmets with what appears to be auto tinting films. I was noticing the visor was so dark it was impossible to see the jumpers face since they used a really dark tint. I get the point of tinting since i wear sunglasses but what is the average tint level that people are putting on their visors? Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  10. My Firefly is the same but I recently got a BevSuit and they come with the Larkshead style and I will say the leg attachment method is horrible compared to my Firefly style. The larks head got so tight on one of the first jumps that I had to work under canopy to undo it off my hand leaving me with only one hand to fly with. To me this is a really bad idea but I was just checking to make sure I was not missing something critical since this is a new jacket in team colors. 11. What I don't get is its pretty clear that the vast majority of the camera jumpers I talk to in person and it seems a lot on this forum dislike the larks head style that tighten on your fingers when you pull on them (which is done on almost every camera jump) but yet there are jumpsuit makers that only offer the larks head style. To me it seems that they are ignoring what the market is asking for or maybe are doing it just since that is how they have always done it and have never bothered asking to see if the market demand has changed. 12. I recently got a new camera jacket and it had a style of loop I do not like but it got me thinking about what styles people prefer and I wanted to see if there was a better style that I could modify this jacket to have. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  13. It looks like on Tuesday morning Felix is taking off for a 60,000 foot test jump over Roswell NM. It looks like a 3:30 am take off and a 9 AM local time landing. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150772018173804.463551.58427163803&type=3 Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Word is that a plea was made since he had convinced victims to write letters on his behalf to the judge and now the case is suspended until his probation is over in a few years and then all charges will be dismissed with no further penalty. 15. During a swoop the jumper was using his rear risers to level out on the ground and dropped one riser on accident while still controlling with the other. This lead to a sharp turn into the ground from an altitude of less than 10 feet. The jumper suffered f
  16. I'm slightly taller but after this winter I have dropped a few pounds so I am 180 with a goal closer to 170. I use wings on EVERY tandem jump. Why? I know I could get there and get the shot about 90% of the time in a tshirt and shorts but those other 10% of the time I need every tool in the tool box to get the shot. If you leave too early due to a messed up count and have a smaller TI and smaller passenger you will struggle to get up to them and might not ever with out wings. If you have a TI that shotguns the drogue the moment they hit the airstream I have always needed the wings to stay with them if I leave on my back. There have been very few times when I've videoed a tandem and wished I had left my wings on the ground and typically those I just flip into a sit and hang out with them that way. There have been many times back when I was starting that I thought I was too cool and was jumping in just a freefly suit or tshirt and ended up missing the shot since I sank out on the tandem. Once I figured out that the customers are paying around $100 for the video and its not about me but its about delivering the highest quality product for the customer that is possible I wised up and started using all the tools available to me on every jump. 18. I have always preferred the circular saw on masonry work. It seems to cut straighter lines and replacing the blade if needed is a lot easier. I used to put in paver patios and spent most a summer operating a gas powered saw every day or two cutting bricks after they were installed and the only thing I hated about the circular saw was the balance on them really sucks and if you have to operate it while unbalanced or at the extremes of a one arm reach it can easily trip you up when it starts or stops. Oh yeah.. just remember to keep things wet Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  19. *** We can take this one to SC but I will disagree with that 100% having lived it for the last 4 years. What other job requires you to supply everything for your job and then watch it get destroyed every year and then have to start over the next year? I have bought close to $800 worth of books for the classroom each year for the last 4 years and get to collect a box of shredded paper and books that are missing 1/2 their pages to throw away at the end of every school year. See all those borders on the bulletin boards? Schools do not supply those, teachers buy them. See all the reading books in the classroom? Teachers had to supply those. See all the classroom activities and toys and just about everything minus the desks and the chairs? Teachers had to buy all of that out of their pocket. Sure, we get a $200 deduction on our taxes but its not even close to what gets spent to make sure the kids have materials so they can learn while in the classroom. This is all for a job that requires a Masters degree and continuing college classes every year making less than $30k after 4 years on the job. Lets add in the hours and hours a week spent grading reports at home, fielding calls from parents on why problems were marked wrong on tests and then most of the weekend preparing the lessons for the next week. I added the hours up in terms of time in the classroom, grading, planning and working with parents on behavior issues in a week and it was approaching 60 hours. As for the "3 month Vacation"? School ends first or second week of June. It then takes most of the next week to break the classroom down and remove all the belongings for it so it can be cleaned over the summer. Then there was the final grading at home in there too. Week or two spent finalizing all the student records to move with the students so the next year teacher can have their records. We wrapped up all the paperwork around the third week of June this year. There were 8-10 days that the Teachers had to report in for training and CPR certification during July and then they had to return all the supplies to the classroom the second week of August and have all the classrooms signed off on by the middle of the third week for school to start the next week. In addition there was the almost mandatory college courses and professional development courses that we had to pay out of pocket for over the summer. That was not including the optional summer school that they taught and we did for the money that took up the first 2 weeks of August. Total time off school for the whole summer? 4 weeks and its impossible to pick up a second job since you can only work for the end of June - end of July. Babysitting rates pay out a LOT more when you look at the real time put in by teachers. I know a few teachers that have found it to pay out better to quit teaching for a few years to avoid paying out the childcare expenses when they have a child. 25. A really good option if you are not looking for recording of HD content is to look for Series 2 Tivo's with the Lifetime subscription option. Years ago Tivo used to run specials where you could buy lifetime service on their DVR for like $150 after buying the unit. Tons of people did this but the issue with the Series 2 units is they can only use one channel and they can only do Standard Def content, they will not even get HD content. I see them go on Craigslist for less than $75 all the time. I even have one I am looking to get rid of with the WiFi adapter for around that cost.
