  8. You've been jumping for 20 years but how many jumps do you have and how many times did you bump the glass on your belly? Flyaway does not have the airspeed to sitfly at. With Flyaway if you get out of control you end up getting out of the cone of air and fall to the pads on the ground. Fly does not have the same design and if they have the winds cranked up to 130+ for you to sitfly and you get unstable what are your options? You end up slamming into the wall at full speed or you end up on your back spinning out of control or you might get onto your belly but then you are stuck up at the fans and then the operator needs to slowly let you down to a level where the instructor feels you are safe again. The first options are major safety concerns - the last one is just wasting your money since it will take 10-15 seconds to get you down to a lower level. another 5-10 seconds to reset to a sit and spin the speed back up and then hope you can actually transition from standing to flying again. So you just spent 20-25 seconds to get to a point where you can fly again? Not the best use of money and time - learn the back fly and you can just rotate 90 degrees to a sit again and it took you 2-3 seconds max. I only have about 10-15 hours in the tunnels and 2000+ jumps so far but despite being able to take sit docks and any transition in the sky I am glad that I learned to back fly and transition from a back to sit over the course of about 2 hours in the tunnel since now when ever I get unstable I have a recovery position and can just bail to my back and then just transition right to my sit again. It took me slamming into the wall a few dozen times and backsliding my self into the wall to many times to count to learn it but had I not had the training of backfly and everything else I would have broken bones and given up years ago. The glass is not forgiving at all of peoples egos that think they have skills that they do not - I learned that one a few times so far. The progression sounds stupid until you actually learn it and its just like anything else - you need fundamentals before you do more advanced moves since if you have an issue with the more advanced item you can just fall back to the skills used at a lower level to work your way back up. Having issues on your back - flip to your belly. Having issues with your sit fall to your fall fall backfly position. Having issue on the head down - rotate to your feet. Its all building blocks that Flyaway does not need since they just can't do the same types of flight. There are iFly tunnels in Chicago that are well worth the drive - I make the drive from Columbus for my block time since iFly is a true freefall simulator and not just an amusement ride like FlyAway is. 9. After a normal video jump and a normal (supposed) opening he engaged his usual hook turn at a sufficient height, according to witnesses, and as he went on final and his hands were seen to reach his rear riser, his canopy went on a violent spin at about 10

  11. Best thing to do is to drop the container off to a local DZ - they might turn it into a training harness for AFF training on the ground. The reserve can be donated to a school or day care for the kids to play with. The main might sell for $100 for someone looking for a starter canopy. The rest of the gear bag is where any money might be made. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

  15. http://dcist.com/2015/05/indoor_skydiving_is_a_thing_you_can.php TIL indoor skydiving is a thing. And it is apparently coming to a would-be office park in Loudoun County, Virginia. Peterson Cos. is proposing to open Northern Virginia's first indoor skydiving center at the corner of Loudoun County Parkway and Route 7, the Washington Business Journal reported. Operator iFly has facilities across the country, including one in Virginia Beach. The company explains that indoor skydiving replicates the conditions of true free fall, but without any of the pesky jumping out of an airplane business. "iFLY’s vertical wind tunnel generates 1400 horse power from 4 powerful fans, creating a wall-to-wall cushion of air on which you can safely float. There’s no parachute, no jumping, and nothing attaching you to planet Earth. It’s just you and the air, and it’s the most incredible adrenaline rush," their website reads. A first-time introduction at the Virginia Beach location costs $59.95 and return flights cost $49.95. They say that most people can fly, including those with physical disabilities, and that kids as young as three have taken the metaphorical plunge. The whole thing lasts about an hour, which iFly says is the equivalent of one and half skydives. They hope to open by Christmas, WBJ reported. And thus you conceivably have a reason to go out to Loudoun County. Which is exactly what developers are betting on. Rather than just filling its 205-acre Commonwealth Center development with offices, Peterson's president of retail Taylor Chess is hoping that iFly and other ventures, like a three-story high-end driving range, will turn it into an entertainment district. "With the restaurants and theater at One Loudoun, with TopGolf and iFLY and other entertainment uses along with potential office opportunities at Commonwealth, this will be a true district, not just a corner,” Chess told WBJ. 17. Jumper was flying a wingsuit, line twists after deployment, no cutaway. Not sure if he wasn't altitude aware until he was too low to cut away or if he got into a spin and blacked out or not but he rode it all the way down.
  18. Collision between a skydiver landing and a gyrocopter taking off. The 2 people of the gyro were slightly injured in the crash. The skydiver was severely injured, and apparently passed away at hospital.
  19. Jumper exited the plane with only one wing zipped on his wingsuit. This ended up causing a spin that was so fast he passed out shortly after exiting the plane.
  20. Check out True Key from Intel. It goes above just needing a password to access the master list but it also uses facial recognition to help control who is able to get access to your passwords. As you upgrade to a system with "Real Sense" tech in the newest Intel chips it will even do 3d identification to validate that it is you and not a photo someone is holding up. This allows you to use yourself as the password and can use stupid long ones that have so many atrophy bits that it's just not practical to try to crack them any more. 21. I pruned out the posts from that thread as well as others as soon as I noticed the thread. To date I have yet to receive a single message from anyone alerting me to specifically monitor or edit that thread. If you look at the moderators (Rhonda posted where the list is) know that we are online when we can be but several of us have small children and are not at the computer 24/7 to monitor threads. The posting volume is too high to have a "must screen all posts prior to being published" policy since at least two of us are frequently away from dropzone.com for 2-3 days due to job and family commitments, but we can hop on and due quick edits if we are alerted to the need to do them. We are always looking for an additional set of eyes to look at the posts and alert us if we are not in front of a computer since we tend of have email alerts set up if we get notified of issues. If you feel that the forum needs a new format please also send messages to Sangiro and Meso since they ultimately are the ones that appoint moderators and give the moderators the guidelines under which we operate. Broken lines

During a swoop the jumper experienced the breaking of several Vectran 300 pound lines on their canopy. This collapsed the canopy and they impacted under only a partially inflated canopy.
