  1. My mom has arthritis with symptoms like that in her hips and knees. She's stiff and in pain until she gets moving. From her experience she says staying mobile works better than any medicine for it, but she also have fibromyalgia, heart valve replacement, double bypass, and a lot of other painful things that happened to her so her pain tolerance could be much higher than normal. EDIT: after rereading your post I have had similar issues with a knee injury from when I was 14. Not broken just soft tissue/ligament damage. 20 years later it could get semi painful during weather changes (not recently though) but I have figured out situation which seems to make it flare and avoid them. In my case it was running and anything that puts a side load on my knee for a long period of time. I now own a car that I haven't driven since February due to the way I have to sit in it. once the inflammation sets in I can have continuous pain for weeks unless I go easy for a week or so. I have done nothing doctor wise, most I do is take an anti-inflammatory if it gets rough. I usually just avoid, limit, or adjust. I don't run unless I need to. If I notice im going to side load my knee on landing, I'll PLF instead.
  2. Yes I understand that, but they are calling the second canopy/reserve a main. Which means the third canopy is their reserve. The idea behind a reserve is to not have to use it unless necessary, whether it's parachutes, military troops, or food supply. If you plan to use it, it is no longer under reserve status. Edited to add: basically I'm saying if you intend to cutaway without a third parachute or plan to use your "reserve", it is no longer a reserve and would be in violation of FAR if you jump without a third parachute.
  3. Link is to a picture I took of my 14/15 SIM book page 164. It is of the exhibition jump section and it is very clear that intentional cutaways requires a third canopy to stay within the rules. http://i.imgur.com/7POhoev.jpg
  4. I wouldn't want to cutaway a perfectly good main only to find an issue with my reserve. No need to risk that if you don't have to.
  5. Ok well that wasn't the intention. I didn't want to give any info in the hope that the video would be funnier. I guess it turning up in the middle of the night didn't help, but I work nights so it's normal hours for me.
  6. I posted in bonfire. Video was a pickup in slow moving traffic unaware that he/she was dragging their sofa which was tied down in the bed. The truck passes a cop car in left lane and the cop merges behind truck/sofa only to leave the roadway shortly after. To try and come up with a title that wouldn't involved the police i came up with need moving advice. I figured any title in this section with police in it would be deemed political and deleted. I just thought it was a funny video to share.
  7. Mine got deleted from here. Was there a rule i am unaware of
  8. The DZ he's going to may require tandems before the FJC. I haven't been to Cross Keys yet so I don't know. Might be something he should ask.
  9. I don't know how far skydive delmarva is from you (your in the Baltimore area iirc) but that's where I did my jumps. I don't know about cross keys but where I go there are a lot of outs for off landings (lots of fields)
  10. Not exactly what mary poppin had in mind http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-37103668
  11. Welcome to the club, I love reading about first jumps. I'm just not sure if it's because it helps me remember mine or if it's because someone else got to enjoy it like I did. Maybe both. I still get the nerve just a little when the door opens but the complete freedom outside it keeps me going back.
  12. Ok so I got cleared for self supervision today and did my first solo. I did a few flips and barrel rolls on the way down to celebrate but now I need to get to work. My first poised exit was dirty, my float exit I over rotated, but my diving exit is great. My first poised exit I did like before without gripping the door frame. When I exited I didn't get my legs out as fast as I wanted an ended up doing a 180 then going head down. The instructor said it looked kinda looked like it was intentional. I did get stable fairly quickly though and finished the dive. The floating exit I push off when I could have just stepped off which caused me to over rotate and momentarily I ended up on my back which I corrected quickly then continued with the dive. Other than that I need to work on my tracking. A good thing though is that I'm able to relax a lot better now. Even during the dirty exits, I was able to think through it, correct the problem, and find my instructor as he was chasing me though the sky. One other time I missed at pull time but just felt around for it and still pulled on time. I'm still rough around the edges but I should be able to get this down around 25 jumps.
  13. I have been keeping the local tunnel near me in business while I have been doing aff. What one of the instructors did was teach me leg turn first, then side slides. learning leg turns first made it easier to stop spins before they start but it did take me a few minutes. My next few jumps should go a lot smoother
  14. The loop was an oxygen line after luke took it off and handed it over
  15. Link didn't work but I think I fixed it
  16. Found this while looking http://youtu.be/XBRtnE05ILs
  17. one of the other things I was concerned about is raking the back of the container on the top of the doorway and jumping into a horseshoe.
  18. I'm not too far from you. I'm in Colora, Md (1hr15min) and I'm in the process of getting my license. Welcome to the forum
  19. I'll have no issues with that. I'll probably enjoy it since I'm not as cramped up
  20. I was told the same thing at the other dropzone I started at the first time. I'm sure it's much easier for a shorter person though and of course once I'm out the door I have plenty of room. I only have a few more jumps where they're holding on so if they won't let me grip next time, I'll just deal with it.
  21. Thats my issue. I get set in position but then I can't really move. Once the reserve instructor lets go of the plane I kinda get pulled out with the main side pushing me. I feel if I could get a hand on the door I'll be about to use that to regain some control.
  22. Ok they let him take a grip of the door, if I could do that it would be much easier. I asked before my jumps since I already knew it would be an issue and I was told no. My flexibility is ok it's just the position I'm in that makes it difficult to move. Since I did two jumps with this dz I'll ask about taking a grip again. I think they're worried about students hanging on too long.
  23. I redid my cat a and cat b today. Last year I stopped for various reasons but today I excelled. both jumps I had a slight problem at the door resulting in a not so smooth exit but not terrible. I'm 6'4" and I'm jumping out of a super otter which hold 18 jumpers. Problem I had is the way I had to stand Hunched down so low I have almost no push off power. It ended with me kinda falling out while with the reserve instructor pulling me. As soon as I was out though I immediately arched waited a second or two to even out a little and continued with my diveflow. During the diveflow on both I was still slightly anxious, can think, read signal, do what I was suppose to do, ect. But on the first jump I had a slight pilot chute hesitation. when I turned to check during my count, my canopy open at the same time which gave me about 4 line twist. Got out of them easy enough and the opening from the second jump was uneventful. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to help me get out the door better? After I'm out I'm good, but it would be nice to exit clean.
  24. Finally got a jump scheduled for this Saturday. I decided to just start from the beginning to refresh so to speak. The past year though any spare time I had I've been reading the forums, articles, watching cutaway videos on YouTube and studying the malfunction and if possible the events leading up to it. This time it should go much better since I chosen a drop zone much closer with a two hour drive instead of five and I have much less money tied up in other projects.
  25. I keep the hitch on the back of my truck for a reason. If I want to let them know their radiator is at risk of being attached to my hitch, I just let off the accelerator for a moment. Most of the time though I don't care about the people behind me.
